AR-18/Story
AR-18 | Story | Quotes |
Personality[edit]
AR-18's Neural Cloud holds two personalities who do not share information in order to run assignment without the risk of leaking intelligence: the main personality is Instructor Я (Cyrillic letter "Ya"), while the second personality assumes a new name for each mission. She has been called Polina, Daria,[1] and during Operation Eclipse, Lyudmila Pavlichenko.[2]
Because of her origins, she has been deemed a strategic risk by Statesec and has always been in a command position, never on the frontline.[2] This prevented her from gaining field experience and kept her in a by-the-book approach that endangered her team in some situations, such as during the Paradeus investigations in Tserkov.[3][4] This may be the reason why she has very little esteem for her creator.[5][6]
Instructor Я is emotionless and rigorously professional, while the second personality has a more rebellious streak, being unhappy about their condition.
Somewhat teasingly, Erma considered herself AR-18's big sister.[7]
Story[edit]
Origins and military career[edit]
AR-18 was created by Arthur Hume with the designation 63-Я-180[8][6] (Unit 180),[Note 1] probably as contract work for Statesec. As Instructor Я, she developed a reputation as an excellent Dolls commander.
At some point before 2064, AR-18 was deployed in the Tserkov Special Administrative Region of the Neo-Soviet Union with her own team, Advanced Combat Team Я, under the 7th Directorate of Statesec. The team consisted of the T-Dolls Sergey, Yulia and Ash. Team Я was instructed to investigate a religious sect that had committed a bloodbath and fell into a Paradeus trap. They were about to be wiped out when Task Force DEFY intervened and salvaged the situation.[3] Angelia harshly criticized AR-18 for her lack of tactical flexibility.[4]
Operation Eclipse[edit]
When the Commander of Griffin & Kryuger launched an operation against the Paradeus headquarter in the Dead Sea of Germany in October 2064, Statesec selected AR-18 as the core member of Operation Eclipse for her intelligence protection capabilities.[2] She was to transport the “Grand Duke”, a top-secret military-grade transmission scheme to enable the Commander's teams to keep communications up even through the harsh radiative environment of the Dead Sea.[9] For AR-18, this was the chance to finally get field experience and become a better commander.[4]
AR-18's second personality led the operation under the name Lyudmila Pavlichenko[2] and codename Midnight Star,[10] but her true objective was hidden from her. Instead, she was instructed to ride the "Future" intercontinental train in order to infiltrate the "Colt Express" digital black market hosted aboard.[11] Lyudmila successfully infiltrated the Colt Express, but was caught up in the armed robbery of the train by the Vory v Zakone, then the crash of the train by a combined force of the KCCO and Paradeus, who had been informed of the Grand Duke's presence and deployed Tareus to identify and intercept her.[12]
AR-18 also met with another Hume Doll, Unit 0 SMG ErmaErmaErma, and allied with her and Maggie Ponzi to defeat the attacking forces and protect the passengers of the train. Lyudmila eventually called two air strikes from bomber Ruslan II to destroy the KCCO armored forces, sacrificing herself to paint the targets for the second strike.[13] Tareus deemed her mission a success,[14][15] unaware that AR-18 had transferred the Grand Duke to Erma, who completed the delivery in her stead.[9]
From the Dead Sea to Frankfurt[edit]
At some point, another copy of AR-18 was delivered to the Commander and assisted them in commanding the Battle of the Dead Sea from the Elmo mobile command base.[16][17] After the end of the battle, AR-18 and Erma were the only two Dolls able to recover from the intense electronic attack against the Elmo. Following intelligence from AR Stevens M520Stevens M520Stevens M520, AR-18 set the Elmo's autopilot to Frankfurt and prepared to fight the enemies waiting for them at the edge of the Dead Sea while Erma went on ahead.[6]
In-game mail - 26 August 2024[edit]
Report on the Special Operation
Commander,
Although I'm not sure if you will receive this, I am sending this report to you as per Griffin's protocol. After you went missing, Stevens M520 got in touch with us, claiming to have critical information that could save you. Consequently, Erma went to Frankfurt as per her request to investigate.
…I'll skip the details for now. Just know that we have achieved the desired outcome, and that Erma has successfully secured a critical bargaining chip for you. I believe that once you return, everything will start moving in a positive direction.
We are all awaiting your return.
Notes[edit]
- ↑ She is designated "Unit 180" in chapter 3-α3 of Longitudinal Strain, which matches the last number of her ID, but the other Hume Dolls in The Summer Garden of Forking Paths are instead designated by the first number of their ID.
