MICA Team has been fond of adding April Fools gags in their live-service games over the years. Some are simple, others much more involved, and they usually span the entire month of April.
Girls' Frontline[edit]
During the month of April, several characters will have all or some of their animated chibis swapped for a gag version (the actual in-game files are changed). All past swaps are active at once during this month, making for some surreal scenes in the dorms.
These alternate chibis can be seen by accessing the character's page.
2017[edit]
- The introduction of the monthly-exclusive chibis swaps: HG Five-seveNFive-seveNFive-seveN became a giant tuna-wielding ferret with a red scarf. Essentially, she's replaced by a terrifyingly huge version of AR FALFALFAL's pet ferret, Fel.
2018[edit]
- New chibi swap: RF Mosin-NagantMosin-NagantMosin-Nagant is now riding a horse for the whole month, Cossack-style.
- Sunborn announced on Weibo that the game would be revamped into a boys-only version due to overwhelming demand from female players.[1]
2019[edit]
- New chibi swap: SMG RO635RO635RO635 relives her worst nightmare from Continuum Turbulence and returns to her Dinergate form. She keeps her gun this time.
- The menace of a boys-only version of the game had not been vanquished the previous year: the login screen announced the release of Shonen Frontline 2065.
- As a throwback to a certain summer login screen, the JP Twitter account announced a new unit: Extra SG Berezovich Kryuger in a speedo. He's the boss, so his stats are through the roof.
2020[edit]
- A new chibi swap: Kalina realized her dream to become a fat orange tabby cat (Kalinya?). She did not realize she would still have to type reports with those paws.
- A new isekai anime titled Sangvis Ferri Academy was announced, where the Commander would take the role of a teacher at a school where the Sangvis Ferri ringleaders are students. It will only air in 206X, though.[2]

2021[edit]
- Five new chibi swaps:
- All four members of Task Force DEFY (AR AK-12AK-12AK-12, AR AN-94AN-94AN-94, AR AK-15AK-15AK-15 and MG RPK-16RPK-16RPK-16) become furry friends. This is in reference to their in-story nicknames, such as AK-12 "Snow Wolf" and AK-15 "White Mastiff". Because of their lack of opposable thumbs, this swap is limited to dorms and not applied in combat.
- RF Hanyang Type 88Hanyang Type 88Hanyang Type 88 took the last step and finally turned herself into a full-on Gundam. This chibi swap was eventually turned into her full costume "White Comet, Bearer of Wishes".
- Dima was announced as a new playable unit.[3] Well, not playable playable, but she(?) was available as an adjutant for a limited time and received new chibi assets for the occasion.
2022[edit]
- Instead of a chibi swap, AR M4 SOPMOD IIM4 SOPMOD IIM4 SOPMOD II received a new costume called "Resurrection Repairer Jr" where she took the form of M4 SOPMOD II Jr., obtained from a points event.
- The login screen was swapped with the default login screen from Project Neural Cloud.

2023[edit]
- Baba Lyuba was announced as the next unit to be added to Protocol Assimilation.[4]
- The login screen of the game was replaced with an illustration of the yet-unreleased Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery.[5]
- The audio files for the voice lines of AR 6P626P626P62 were replaced with the voice of a certain middle-aged director of Sunborn, who also happens to be her original artist. She was bewildered too, but for other reasons.
2024[edit]
- Stage 1-1 became very different: exit the Training Drones, enter AR AK-47AK-47AK-47, SMG SkorpionSkorpionSkorpion, AR A-545A-545A-545, and an angry AR ST AR-15ST AR-15ST AR-15 who can summon barricades and blows herself up after losing enough HPs. This joke map is fought with mandatory Assimilated versions of Adeline, Alina, and a team assembled around Narciss comprising two Manticores, two Corpse Brides and two Great White Playgrounds (don't ask).
- 6P62 got scolded again.
-
I remember this level being more chill.
Project Neural Cloud[edit]
2022[edit]
- The event Fool's Duality took place, starring Baalia, a joke character of her own.
- The login screen was swapped with the old loading screen from Girls' Frontline.
2024[edit]
- Antonina had a weird morning.
- The KR Twitter account announced an exceptional banner where players would be able to pull Reverence, Wisdom, Love, Faith, Angelus, Raven, Eucharist and Eosphorous (Eos version), a rare 9-stars units.
