The Fox Sisterhood was a criminal syndicate specializing in scams.[2] They played a background role in the world's events by financing Arthur Hume's research and harboring Dolls who later participated in Operation Eclipse.
The most prominent members of the Sisterhood were the sisters Maggie and Catherine Ponzi. The syndicate was only nominally all-female, as Maggie only cared about results and didn't mind adding Arthur Hume to their ranks.[3]
History[edit]
The origins and place of operations of the Fox Sisterhood are unknown. In the 2030s, they were led by Maggie Ponzi and her sister Catherine Ponzi.[4] Charles Ponzi is an infamous con artist who had a well-known scam method named after him. It's very possible that Maggie and Catherine's names were fake, and even possibly inherited from earlier members of the Sisterhood, since their names were reused by later members.
Maggie recruited scientist Arthur Hume to back her "Project Horn of Hope" medical scam in exchange for funding.[4][3] The Fox Sisterhood conducted business as Unicorn Tech Ltd., offering "a nectar in a horn of hope to cure the Collapse miasma". They asked for a drop of blood from customers, promising that they would analyze their genetic sequence to create a personalized "Horn of Hope" to boost their immune system and resistance to Collapse radiation.[4] Hume didn't disclose his dealing with the Fox Sisterhood to his comrade Mikhail Tsvigun, maintaining a façade of dignity, but years into the project he still ran out of funds despite the success of Maggie's scams. On Tsvigun's advice, he used the Sisterhood's ties to the black market in an attempt to sell his "Human Intelligence Research" paper.
Maggie Ponzi was eventually killed, presumably during World War Three. Though it could be argued that Hume was the one who had scammed Maggie for funding, he ultimately accessed her dying wishes by creating a Doll with her name and kept being involved with Catherine and the Sisterhood. Hume later sent the Doll a message promising to give her Maggie's legacy on the condition that the Fox Sisterhood retain its name and to keep selling new editions of his paper on the black market. The paper eventually found a buyer.[3]
However, the Maggie Doll didn't have any control over the Sisterhood: human members, called the "Mistresses", had full authority over the Doll members. She wound up under the orders of another human member of the Sisterhood using the name Miss Maggie, and was given the name Miss Séance after her scamming specialty. Another human member took the name Miss Catherine and trained the Doll Miss Poker, who became Miss Séance's partner.[5] Miss Séance lived apart from the other Dolls and was the only one considered untouchable while all other Dolls were considered easily replaceable because she was running digital work for the Sisterhood.[6]
At some point among the post-war chaos, the Mistresses suddenly disappeared under unknown circumstances[7] and the disappearance of the Fox Sisterhood was eventually made public.[8][9] The Doll members of older models rallied under Miss Séance, who broke the signboard of the Fox Sisterhood to proclaim their freedom. Over the next years, only Séance and Poker survived by finding spare parts for their bodies and surviving dismantlement by criminals.[7] Séance eventually decided to abandon their former specialties and aim for large-scale scams. The two Dolls took the names of their former Mistresses, Séance taking the name Maggie Ponzi and Poker the name Catherine Ponzi.[10]
Maggie and Catherine then became involved with Paradeus for protection against the Vory v Zakone, running the Colt Express virtual black market as part of their Bee Sting intelligence system.[11] In 2064, this led to their involvement with Operation Eclipse and the Hume Dolls SMG ErmaErmaErma and AR AR-18AR-18AR-18.
Members[edit]
Maggie Ponzi[edit]
Maggie Ponzi was the leader of the Fox Sisterhood in the 2030s and a very successful scammer. She presented herself as "the best social engineer in the world".[4] During most he her career, she successfully concealed her activity and was legally known as the director of legitimate businesses, but she later became notorious for her record-breaking net worth, scams and criminal bounty.[3]
Maggie convinced destitute scientist Arthur Hume to back her "Project Horn of Hope" medical scam in exchange for funding. Maggie noticed that Hume had obtained a billion from investors to fund his Project Pilot Whale, but ended up with nothing to show for it. She wanted to borrow Hume's scientific background to give credence to Project Horn of Hope,[4] and possibly more high-tech projects in the future. Hume was extremely reluctant to part with his scientific integrity, but Maggie cornered him with the reality of his finances, stole the physical gold he had stashed, assured that her scams would bring millions to fund his project, and enticed him to see Pilot Whale through. The scam was successful but Hume continued to run out of his yearly funds.
Presumably during World War Three, Maggie became trapped and met her end in an artillery fire area. She believed she had been setup after crossing someone she shouldn't have. Hume contacted her before she died. She confirmed that she was still notorious, then encouraged Hume to follow Tsvigun's advice and move to the Neo-Soviet Union. She bequeathed all her assets on Hume and Catherine, including her fortune and several mansions in Germany, and asked Hume to take care of Catherine and the Sisterhood, as well as write and publish her autobiography. Hume asked her if she would like to be resurrected, but she answered that she had already lived the best life possible. In her last words, she told Hume she didn't mind if he made a Doll in her image, being aware of her great beauty.
Hume created the Doll and gave her Maggie's legacy.[3] Years after the Fox Sisterhood disappeared, Paradeus enlisted the help of the Doll double to make use of her "Colt Express" scam as part of their Bee Sting intelligence system.[8][12]

Catherine Ponzi[edit]
Catherine Ponzi was the right hand of Maggie Ponzi and her found sister (they were not biological sisters).[3] Catherine was aimless after Maggie's death, so following Maggie's dying wishes, Hume brought her to Moscow and hired her at the attendant to his Dolls. Catherine changed her appearance, and her name to Natalie. She wanted to see Hume's goal succeed in order to resurrect Maggie. Natalie became the only human Hume kept close to him[13] and the only person he trusted.[14] A virtual unaging version of Natalie was added to the Summer Garden, while the human Natalie kept attending to Hume's manor (first in Moscow, and alter in Frankfurt) and his Dolls in her old age,[13] even after Hume was killed. When the military contract of the Hume Doll SG Stevens M520Stevens M520Stevens M520 ended, Natalie contacted her to inform her of Hume's death and asked her to bring SMG ErmaErmaErma to Frankfurt so they would access Hume's secrets in the Summer Garden.[14] At the end of October 2064,[15] the Hume Dolls pieced together Natalie's identity but she never admitted it herself, claiming she would always remain the Summer Garden's maid, even if it was destroyed and she had to find a new form of it.[16]
In a similar way to Maggie Ponzi, the name of Catherine Ponzi[Note 1] was taken up by another member of the Sisterhood and later by a Doll, who is the same rare doll model as SMG MP41MP41MP41[17] (this justifies that her appearance reuses MP41's sprite, with just a different hat, long sleeves and no gun, armband, tie and shoulder insignia).
Under the name Miss Poker, the Doll was initially trained during World War Three by "Miss Catherine" to be an expert cheater at poker, but due to the betting scene shifting online she was about to be sold and scrapped until Miss Séance, another Doll of working for the Sisterhood, hired her to add effects to her séances with her card tricks.[5] Because she feared being abandoned, Miss Poker became interested in Miss Séance's supposed immunity among the Sisterhood, and learned that she was running electronic tasks the others couldn't. Because Miss Séance could crash due to her workload, Miss Poker had Séance hire her as her bodyguard to get a secure job.[6]
When the Fox Sisterhood disappeared in the chaotic times after the end of World War Three, Séance and Poker were among the last of their Dolls to leave and try to survive by themselves, but Miss Poker ended up alone after Miss Tourguide was attacked and torn apart by thugs and Séance crashed for an entire year from the trauma of seeing her death.[7] Miss Poker continued protecting her and, in a twist of fate, managed to make a profit off the revival of physical poker gambling by selling her cheating modules for a high price. After Séance awakened, they agreed to become con artists and to take the names of their former owners for themselves: Miss Séance became Maggie Ponzi, and Miss Poker became Catherine Ponzi.[10]
In 2062, Maggie was forced to associate with Nikolai Vasilyevich[18] and the Dolls attempted to run with his money, not expecting Nikolai to be a member of the Vory v Zakone. Catherine was captured and cast in cement by the gangsters, but Maggie managed to free her by taking a blind contract with Paradeus, who were associated with the Vory.[19] Paradeus modified Maggie's neural cloud and had her and Catherine run a virtual black market operation aboard the Intercontinental Railway called the “Colt Express”, which enabled Paradeus' Bee Sting surveillance system to monitor the railway.[11] Aboard the Colt Express, Maggie used the identifier Queen of Hearts while Catherine used the King of Hearts, since Maggie felt Catherine was the true genius scammer of their duo.[20]
In the later months of 2064, Catherine sold tickets to the Colt Express to Lyudmila Pavlichenko, Pavel Marmontov and Erma Hume, becoming embroiled into Operation Eclipse.[21] During the Vory's armed robbery of their train, Baba Lyuba's right hand Danil attempted to destroy Catherine as she protected Maggie, but Maggie saved her and Catherine was shot in the leg instead.[11] Because she could not move after the KCCO attacked the train, she volunteered to trap Tareus in her neural space for ten minutes, buying enough time for Lyudmila to call an air bombardment and eliminate the attackers.[22] Erma later noticed that her signal was gone,[20] but it is unlikely Catherine truly disappeared since she kept 80 backups of her neural cloud at all times.[19]
Shortly before Operation Eclipse, Catherine and Quimby sold a black market Doll to Cheryl,[23] who turned out to be Amaris of Daybreak Squad and caused a disturbance after Aliana was awakened to participate in the Battle of the Dead Sea.
