Kalina <s>is an obtainable Tactical Doll</s> is your adjutant in Girls Frontline. She plays a vital role in the story and also mans the Store, where she will complain if you don't spend anything each visit.  
In [[Girls' Frontline]], she's a logistics officer for [[Griffin & Kryuger]], who became [[the Commander]]'s adjutant when they joined G&K in 2062 and served under their command during their time at G&K. Her job is to manage the constant flux of resources used by the Commander and their [[Tactical Doll|T-Dolls]] during their operations, as well as handle secretary work.<ref name=NPC /> In-game, she is can be seen roaming around the base and manning the store, where she asks the Commander to buy things.


She is obtainable by simply starting your career as a G&K Commander - see the [[Guide:Tutorial|Tutorial]]. As soon as the game has finished the opening sequences, Kalina will be present as your adjutant (or secretary, if you're more familiar with that term). She will then guide you through the tutorial, which demonstrates various functions and mechanics of the game.
In [[Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium]], Kalina appears as a story NPC and her role has been transferred to [[Mayling Shen]].


Like some other T-Dolls, Kalina comes with her stock Live2D outfit enabled by default. As you progress in the game, other Kalina outfits will become available for purchase. These outfits are unfortunately static imagery in which she will no longer be animated or react to being tapped or device shakes.

Despite her looks, she cannot participate in battle as she is not armed with any weapons. She is often seen carrying a tablet device which closely resembles an certain fruity company's tablet device.

Also dissatisfied with G&K's new condition, Kalina left the company and joined the URNC's Non-Military Forces Administration along with [[Kryuger]].<ref name=GF241 /> By 2074, Kalina had become a Senior Counselor of the agency.<ref name=GF261>{{cite|gfl2|SL-6-1}}</ref> She secretly continued to monitor the Commander's activities, but neither had the courage to make contact again after their sudden separation.<ref name=GF241 /> Kalina continued to work with [[Dandelion]] as a free agent<ref name=GF261 /> as well of the members of [[H.I.D.E. 404]].

Kalina (格琳娜, Cyrillic: Калина) is a recurring NPC in Girls' Frontline games.

In Girls' Frontline, she's a logistics officer for Griffin & Kryuger, who became the Commander's adjutant when they joined G&K in 2062 and served under their command during their time at G&K. Her job is to manage the constant flux of resources used by the Commander and their T-Dolls during their operations, as well as handle secretary work.[2] In-game, she is can be seen roaming around the base and manning the store, where she asks the Commander to buy things.

In Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium, Kalina appears as a story NPC and her role has been transferred to Mayling Shen.

Background

Kalina lost both of her parents in the aftermath of World War Three and developed an obsession for wealth at a young age.[3] In one of her lines in the Shop screen, she denies having any particular love for money, but not having interest in anything else. SMG MP7MP7MP7 gave her the nickname "Gold Digger" due to this obsession[4] and the Dolls were surprised when she didn't resell donations meant for a nearby town after she was entrusted with them.[5] Kryuger came across the young Kalina shortly after forming Griffin & Kryuger in 2053, and he employed Kalina's service in the company even though she was under aged out of pity.[3] Kalina was already a long time G&K employee when she was assigned to the Commander in Sector 09 in 2062.

Character Info

While she prefers her nickname "Kalin", her full name is Kalina (meaning "sweet viburnum"). She is cheerful, passionate and casual by nature and is very friendly to the Commander. For the most part she is diligent at her work, but in her private life she has a typical girlish side to her. She is a perfectly normal human being other than the fact that she takes much longer afternoon naps then others... (Are we partially to blame for this for overworking her?) Kalina also has more surprising capacities: she can draw pretty well and has rare knowledge of old computer technology.[2] According to Angelia, Kalina would have been an agent as good as herself if she had enlisted.[6]

As a logistics officer, Kalina is in charge of most day-to-day operations of the Commander's base. When the Commander is in the field, she often serves as both radio operator and second-in-command, relaying the Commander's orders to individual field squads[7] and being in charge of receiving incoming transmissions. In the base menu, she appears both as the data room operator in the Tactical Command Center and head of the T-Doll Club. The same menu notes that she does the work of two persons but is only paid as one.

Kalina runs new players through the Tutorial when they start their career as commanders, and she is the default adjutant displayed on the main screen. Kalina does not exist as a unit and can't be upgraded or deployed in battle like T-Dolls, though she does use weapons at some points during the Story. She is often seen carrying a tablet device which closely resembles a certain fruity company's device.

Notably, Kalina seems to be in charge of writing Battle Reports in the Data room. In a Madcore Comic on the "Downloading Game Data" screen, she is seen finishing a batch of reports after consuming many energy drinks (in the form of the battery consumable item), only to be dumped with more combat data, which has become a running gag situation. Her name can be seen on the close-up of the reports in the Dorms' gift menu.

Costumes

In Girls' Frontline, Kalina's costume as an adjutant on the main screen can be changed in the adjutant selection screen by selecting the player name on the upper left, and in the shop using the dedicated button on the upper right.

Kalina's base costume has Live2D enabled by default, like some T-Dolls costumes. Other non-Live2D costumes can be unlocked for Kalina during certain events, or by increasing her special affection level. This level is increased by tapping her heart bubbles in the shop (a particle effect and a prompt will notify the player of a new costume) or by spending gems. There is no indicator of her affection level aside from voice lines dependent on this level.

Like Architect and the Dinergates, Kalina is a recurring bonus character appearing in the dorms after collecting all parts of a 5-stars Furniture set.

  • In the Snowy Yard set, she wears a traditional robe and a black wig with accessories, and wields a round fan.

  • In the Moonlight Ball set, she wears an elegant skirt and stockings and carries a martini glass containing an unidentified drink.

  • In the Operation Idol set, she appears as an idol producer with a suit, a loose jacket on her shoulders, sunglasses and a mic like Kotaro Tatsumi in Zombie Land Saga.
  • In the Museum Trip set, she rides a horse while wearing a WW1 Australian uniform and wielding a cavalry saber.
  • In the Southern Sea Pavilion set, she rides a waiter robot and wears a maid uniform.
  • In the Peak Time set, she wears a leather two-piece white and blue race queen costume.
  • In the Aquarium set, she swims in the background as a siren. It is also the only time she's shown without her hair attached in any fashion.
  • In the Assembled World set, she appears as a life-sized Lego figure.
  • In the New Year Shrine set, she appears as a miko performing a kagura ritual.
  • In the Chinatown set, she wears a red cheongsam with her hair in two high buns and holds three red new year gift envelopes.
  • In the Classic Township set, she wears an armor and wields a sword as a knight princess.
  • In the Theater of Splendor set, she pilots a TV helicopter with SMG MP41MP41MP41 as her cameraman.
  • In the Sleepless City set, she appears as a yakuza with a suit, slicked-back hair and an eyepatch, in the style of Goro Majima from the Yakuza series.

Main story

“ Let me introduce myself. I'm Kalina, your logistics officer. Just call me Kalin. And you are...? 'Choose us. Join us. Griffin Security Contractor, the shining beacon in a brave new world!' That's right. Starting from today, you're a Tactical Commander under Griffin![8] ”

Kalina was the logistics officer of the Area S09 Griffin outpost in 2062 when the Commander, a new G&K recruit at the time, was placed in charge of the sector. Kalina assured them G&K's selection process was tough enough to ensure they were ready and organized a training drill for them.[8] During the Commander's evaluation in the advanced testing program, she filled in for Helian as supervisor during the day Helian was out to a mixer, later relating to the Commander it was yet another failure.[9] When the Commander received their first mission from Persica, Kalina explained Persica's role as 16LAB's head researcher to the Commander since Persica did not bother to introduce herself.[10]

Kalina used her proficiency with outdated encryption schemes to recover records of AR Team's operation at Safe House 3, boasting about the randomness of her skillset and teaching the decryption method to AR M4A1M4A1M4A1.[11] After Sangvis Ferri's assault on Sector 08 and the Commander's transfer to Sector 05, Kalina expressed that she missed the exciting missions of the frontline but supported the Commander in their choice to change their command sector to monitor AR Team during their detention, saying she was grateful to the Commander for living new experiences.[12]

In the aftermath of the joint mission between G&K and KCCO where the military betrayed G&K, Kalina assisted the Commander in evacuating as much T-Dolls and G&K personnel from the battlefield as possible, using a megaphone to direct the troops when all command networks were taken down by KCCO's countermeasure against OGAS's infiltration.[13] She also carried emergency repairs on SMG UMP45UMP45UMP45 after she took critical damage against KCCO units.[14][15] After locating the place where Paradeus had taken the Commander, Kalina commanded the Griffin Dolls to assist Squad 404 in recovering them.[16]

A few months later, Kalina and the Commander were deployed in Belgrade by Witkin, with Kalina making the necessary arrangements for them to cross borders unnoticed by KCCO.[17] She was provided by Statesec with high-end equipment to coordinate the search for Paradeus spies in the city and use privileged access to run background checks on K and Angelia.[18] When G&K was tasked with protecting chairwoman Gilda Ulrich, Kalina and the Commander dressed as journalists and directed the operations from the conference hall,[19] then dropped their cover to bring the chairwoman to the safety of a nearby church after Paradeus' assault. She had to deal with SMG TEC-9TEC-9TEC-9 due to her fear of humans[20] and re-established communications with K to arrange Ulrich's extraction.[21]

When the Commander was sent to the Paldiski submarine base through Tallinn, Kalina manned communications and helped to decrypt intel sent by WAVE in preparation of the base's takeover.[23] She also assisted in supervising Operation Golden Fleece, the Commander's plan to hijack a KCCO armored train.[24] During preparations for the base's assault, Kalina enlisted the help of Squad 404 to decrypt comm packets from Task Force DEFY since all other computers and Dolls were already computing battle plans.[25] At Paldiski, Kalina survived both the crash of the train into the base's gate[26] and the following KCCO bombardment after she was pulled out of debris and brought to safety from the train's fire by the Dolls.[27] After weathering the initial assaults and the heavy blow dealt to KCCO by an air bombardment, the Commander sought to deny access to the base by blowing the sea valves with explosives, but not wanting to expose Kalina to more danger, they denied her to help in deploying the explosives and ordered her to take over command while they and K took the field.[22] Kalina dispatched RF SL8SL8SL8's team to help the Commander back through KCCO's defenses before the valves exploded and flooded the base.[28]

After getting back to Area S09, Kalina and the Commander were offered Green Zone cards respectively by Helian and Kryuger, and given the choice to leave the PMC to leave safer lives or keep getting involved in dangerous missions and learn dangerous truths. Kalina noted that the card was worth 10 years of her salary but wanted to follow the Commander's decision, while not wanting to ask them their choice directly. The Commander noticed and tried to tease Kalina by wondering if they could ever find a fitting replacement, but Kalina did not appreciate the joke[29] and gave the Commander the cold shoulder for an entire week before they could clarify that they would stay at G&K. Kalina had them swear not to lie to her again, but they eventually broke this promise.[30]

Following her radiation exposure during the Great Retreat and the Paldiski Incident, Kalina fell ill and was brought to a nearby hospital,[31] where she was diagnosed with early-stage ELID.[32] The Commander had no adverse effects due to developing partial immunity to Collapse radiation.[33] After showing signs of skin silicification, she was transferred to a general hospital for heavier treatment.[34] The news left the Commander distraught,[35] and the ELID cure made from Machlian's blood was one of the reasons why the Commander insisted to investigate the Sector D8 laboratory despite the dangers.[36][37] The mission was met with disaster and the medicine lost.[38] Kalina's condition stabilized after her transfer[39][40][41] to Moscow, but a Bee Sting record file dated 21 October 2064, during the Battle of the Dead Sea, shows a Paradeus agent entering Kalina's room at City Hospital No. 31.[42]

Side stories

Kalina appears in many Neural Upgrade stories as the one in charge of the administrative processes of Doll maintenance and Neural Upgrades.

At the start of Bounty Feast, Kalina is tortured by the crashing finances of the base and the incoming dip of her popularity in adjutant circles when a game tournament with a cash prize of 10 million dollars appears on Grifchan. Because humans can't compete against the Dolls engaged in the game,[43] the Commander allows a team made of HG K5K5K5, RF R93R93R93, SMG PP-90PP-90PP-90 and commanded by SMG VectorVectorVector to participate in their stead to win the prize. Watching them play, Kalina gets the idea to organize a betting scene to ensure they gain money from the operation.[44] Though the prize ended up being a fake created by AR RFBRFBRFB and AR MDRMDRMDR,[43] the Dolls used enough of their salary on the bets to avoid the base's bankruptcy.[45]

In One Coin Short, Kalina introduces the base to a game where every employee receives a coin to give to their favorite person, and the one with the most coin by Christmas would have a wish granted by the Commander, creating all kinds of chaotic events.

Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium

When the URNC forcibly downsized Griffin & Kryuger in late 2064, the Commander suddenly left the company to escape the URNC's control, and didn't ask Kalina to join them as to not endanger her. Also dissatisfied with G&K's new condition, Kalina left the company and joined the URNC's Non-Military Forces Administration along with Kryuger.[46] By 2074, Kalina had become a Senior Counselor of the agency.[47] She secretly continued to monitor the Commander's activities, but neither had the courage to make contact again after their sudden separation.[46] Kalina continued to work with Dandelion as a free agent[47] as well of the members of H.I.D.E. 404.

In early 2074, Kalina and Lenna investigated the Girard Group's activities in Odesa, and learned about a mysterious box registered for transport by a B.R.I.E.F. bounty hunter.[48] To monitor the box, she had the bounty assigned to a hunter of trust, the Commander. After discovering the contents of the box, Helena, the Commander resolved to find Kalina and hand Helena to her. Kalina and the Commander's reunion after ten years was awkward, with Kalina initially insisting they don't call her “Kalin” and refusing to call them “Commander”.[46] The Commander felt that though they had not changed, Kalina had.[30][46]

Kalina appears regularly in Chibi Dolls Theater in her role as a greedy seller, like when she tries to sell merchandising of AR HK416HK416HK416 without her permission in and traps Squad 404 in debt after launching them on a spending spree to decorate their Dorm.
