Weapon Background[edit]

The Kel-Tec RFB (Rifle, Forward-ejection, Bullpup) is a gas-operated, tilting breechblock, semi-automatic rifle developed by American arms manufacturer Kel-Tec Industries. It features a forward ejection mechanism similar to the Belgian F2000.[1]

First designed in 2003, several different variants of the RFB entered production and were made available to the civilian market starting in 2008. Notable variants include the Sporter, Target, Carbine, and the RFB-C (a Canadian export variant, modified to adhere to Canadian gun laws), with the barrel/total length and performance differing between variants. Kel-Tec does not provide iron sights for the RFB, but users can mount any commercial optic they wish on the top-positioned Picatinny rail.[2] The RFB was designed to accept 20-round aluminum STANAG magazines, but it is also compatible with FAL magazines. Chambering the 7.62x51mm NATO/.308 Winchester cartridge, the RFB is capable of reaching an effective range of 500 meters, propelling the rounds at a muzzle velocity of 880m/s.

As the name suggests, the RFB is a bullpup configured semi-automatic rifle featuring a unique forward ejection design. There is a tube located above the barrel, and it's into this tube that spent casings are ejected as opposed to out one side of the gun. The RFB is able to extract casings in this manner thanks to a pair of extractors, which are able to move sideways to engage with the rim of the casing and then pivot upwards to deposit the spent casing in the ejection tube. Spent casings will stay inside of this tube until either the gun is tilted downwards or the charging handle is operated. This ejection system, in addition to the rifle's controls being accessible from both sides, make the RFB a fully ambidextrous firearm. The RFB is also a compact firearm, managing to possess a 457mm barrel while only being 660mm long. It is also incredibly lightweight: weighing in at around 3.62kg, this makes the RFB one of the most compact and lightest 7.62x51mm firing weapons in the world.

Character Design

The second T-doll made by Anmi. RFB is a T-doll with a primarily black and green color scheme, with some beige also thrown in. In her chibi sprite's victory animation, one of her hair buns falls off, reflecting some of the real-life technical issues the RFB had.

Trivia

  • Positive user reviews claim that while the RFB may have a stiff recoil, the muzzle climb is not that high, making follow-up shots easily manageable. The rifle would actually make quite a decent 7.62mm firing DMR, according to its shooters. There are also some negative reviews which state that the RFB came under-gassed from the factory, leading to an inability to feed rounds from the magazine as the bolt stroke would malfunction after shooting. The magazines, designed by DSA, also had some issues of their own, and were prone to jamming. Once the reviewer identified, isolated, and fixed these problems, the weapon ran dependably well.[2]
    • RFB's in-game skill is likely a reference to its positive reviews regarding possible effective use as a DMR, as well as the rifle itself being chambered in 7.62x51mm, a round that is more commonly used by snipers and designated marksmen. If a player has RFB in her "RFB Steals Christmas" outfit, RFB will actually crouch down and aim her shots carefully upon skill activation.
