Overview[edit]

This event is a primitive version of Project Neural Cloud.

Units progress through each map in one direction, selecting a path towards the boss with the opportunity to choose to challenge easier or harder enemies. After defeating an enemy, the player chooses from four random Battlefield Effects, which are passive bonuses. Battlefield Effects either apply certain effects, or boost said effects. Workbench Nodes have no enemies and will offer four Drone Support choices, which can be activated to provide more bonuses for the next fight only. Workbench Nodes are also used to replenish resources and heal the team. Advanced missions contain several layers, and a boss must be beaten to access lower layers and the final boss. Some layers have teleporters at the mid-point to swap the current team for the reserve team. Each level completed awards "The Cage Conundrum"/"The Lantern Conundrum" points, which are accumulated to unlock Initial Support Effects and make levels easier.

This article contains unmarked spoilers. You have been warned.

After AR Team executed Operation Viper under Angelia's command, Persica notices that the team's performances are far beyond their expected best. Determined to find the source of this irregularity, she calls SMG RO635RO635RO635 in I.O.P.'s HQ as her assistant and has AR Team go through a simulation of Operation Viper again, making the battles progressively more difficult. She also uses two control groups: a team composed of MG MG36MG36MG36, MG LWMMGLWMMGLWMMG, SG M500M500M500, SG M1897M1897M1897 and MG LewisLewisLewis, which is only tasked to go through the battles if they want to, and another composed of HG PA-15PA-15PA-15, RF QBU-88QBU-88QBU-88, RF FalconFalconFalcon, HG StechkinStechkinStechkin and RF wz.29wz.29wz.29, under the orders of a an intern Griffin & Kryuger commander. (All these Dolls are featured in Project Neural Cloud.)

Inspired by Angelia's guidance during the operation and their own cohesion as a team, AR Team displays the same unexpected performances even as the difficulty of the battles become near-impossible. Meanwhile, the first control group decides to keep facing the simulation battles to defend their pride, while the second control group performs much better than expected under the guidance of the cunning intern commander. After all groups manage to defeat even the most difficult enemies, the Maze Cage experiment is interrupted by Angelia, who stops Persica from overexerting her team and forces her to sleep and eat.
