As an artificial pan-immunosome (translated as “fully-immune individual” in Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery), Jefuty shares the powers of GAVIRUL. Lusica considers Jefuty, and by extension herself, to be a descendant of the Unknown Civilization.
When her brain is destroyed, Jefuty's memories are reverse-collapsed into another version of herself through the Nirvana Domain. She calls this phenomenon "recurrence possibility" or "high-dimensional projection" and describes it as precognitive dreams. This is thought to be a characteristics of GAVIRUL's DNA. Rather than future sight, Jefuty conceives this power as "making up for her mistakes". She has some control over the nature of the memories being transmitted, which enabled her to only share critical information for the most part, but some powerful emotions could also be transmitted and accumulate over multiple timelines. Jefuty was not the only person aware of timeline shifts, and because of this she could not accurately predict every event. Another effect of this time-bending power is her enhanced body regeneration. Rather than healing, Jefuty's body is "projected back" from her past body through reverse-collapse. She also has the ability to sense the concentration of nearby Collapse particles and possessed a superhuman strength even as a child.
Following DNA alteration, Jefuty's blood became toxic for Shrike cells, making her a counter-weapon in case the URNC military would deploy the Shrike. Jefuty's blood as less effective against higher forms of Shrikes, but it retained some effect on the β Shrike cells and could still kill a Shrike progenitor if it was directly injected into a Shrike Progenitor's core. However, this DNA alteration prevented Jefuty from accessing Nirvana. In later timelines, recurrence possibility occurs through the consciousness of Lusica's residing in Jefuty's mind, not through Jefuty's body.
Because of her constant access to memories from the future, Jefuty acted and thought like an adult even as a child. This also made her emotions duller and caused her to have trouble expressing her feelings. She thought nothing of putting herself through intense pain to achieve her goals and readily exposed others to similar challenges for the sake of the greater good, but she felt remorse for this heartless way of thinking. As a child, Jefuty felt greatly isolated from the people around her, even from her foster family, because of her nature. In later timelines, this made Lige an important person for her. Her exclusive focus on life-altering objectives led her to neglect personal relations and live a minimalistic lifestyle even in peaceful times.
Jefuty's painful resignation to her own fate stands in contrast to Mendo's unwavering optimism and willpower, which is probably why she fell in love with him. This feeling bled through with her countless memory transfers and deepened constantly. Jefuty's willingness to die in thousands of timelines and ultimately sacrifice her mind to ensure Mendo's survival against the Shrike was called “the love of a goddess” by Lusica. In some timelines, Jefuty and Mendo had a daughter called Cloud, but in these and others, Mendo stood against Jefuty in her quest to destroy the relics due to the consequences for the world. ELID creatures are one of the few things Jefuty is scared of, so she disapproves Mendo's fascination for them.
Jefuty genuinely considered Helena her mother for birthing her and caring for her, and she didn't resent Helena for fulfilling her duty by experimenting on her. Jefuty was more prickly against Philip and refused to call him her father, arguing they had no biological relation, but she ultimately trusted and cared for him as one. Jefuty said she inherited Helena's will and Mendo inherited Philip's bravery, and she felt guilty that the professors spent more time with her than Mendo because of their duty as scientists. Though Jefuty's stubbornness clashed with Atena's prudent and by-the-book nature during Operation Bakery, they ultimately bonded over their devotion to their own sisters. In the pre-game timelines, Atena still held Jefuty in high esteem in the years after Operation Bakery. Jefuty had less kind dispositions towards Jevon for his more duplicitous character compared to Atena, yet she included him implicitly in her objective to have all Bakery members survive. In the early timelines where they knew each other, Jefuty was close to Eleanor, who encouraged her to be more open with her emotions and considerate to her loved ones. Jefuty hated William for his complete lack of remorse for killing countless human-looking Shrike specimens during his experiments, a sentiment that was shared by Philip. She also mocked William's many personal security measures, seeing them as proof that he deeply feared death. Though Colonel Beria considered Jefuty a monster on par with the Shrike, he noted that they shared the will to sacrifice themselves for the sake of mankind.
====Conception: the GAVIRUL Project====
| |||
Jefuty was born in 2078 under the designation G-179. She was gestated and birthed by Helena Martin, one of the GAVIRUL Project researchers. The subjects were considered stillborns, but were made alive using the Thorn Collar device of Professor William from the URNC team in 2079. As pan-immunosomes, all three subjects were capable of consciousness resonance with each other. Philip, Helena and William each named one of the subjects.
Helena developed second thoughts about her involvement in the project, as she felt torn between her instinctive role as a mother towards Jefuty, and her duty as a scientist to experiment on her. Jefuty herself, while grateful for the kindness displayed by Helena and Philip and accepting them as surrogate family, felt that their relationship would always be limited by the fact that she was inhuman, holding too much knowledge and memories for her young body and feeling like she couldn't become more than just a successful embryo to be used for experiments. In spite of this, they still enjoyed acting as a family and Jefuty learned to play the violin from Helena.
Jefuty was at first used for Relic response experiments, but the project eventually shifted away from these experiments and Jefuty became isolated from other virtual consciousnesses. A URNC spy within the project observed that William had "abnormal emotions" toward Jefuty, calling her the project's goddess. As part of his search of a potential pan-immunosome clone capable of using Relics, William pressured Philip and Jefuty into tedious basal consciousness tests on Shrike specimens. Jefuty attempted to establish a telepathic link with each specimens, who were destroyed if it failed. Jefuty thought a virtual consciousness could not appear in an artificial being and that William's experiments were uselessly cruel.
In 2084, Colonel Kämpfe brought Mendo, Helena and Philip's child, to the GAVIRUL Project lab to be used as a test subject for his parents' anti-Shrike research. The experiment was intended to change Jefuty's genetic makeup so her body would produce the anti-Shrike serum, but the tests had to be carried on subjects with a similar genetic sequence. After Helena's body could no longer bear the stress of the experiments, she reluctantly agreed to use Mendo as a test subject. Impatient to meet his parents, Mendo left the room he was locked in through the air ducts and managed to avoid the guards to reach Philip's office. He was captured by Jefuty, who caught him in an armlock from behind and brought him to Philip after learning his identity and blindfolding him so he wouldn't come in contact with classified material. Mendo didn't see Jefuty's face or learn her name at that time, but promised to make her a gift one day.
In 2085, as political tensions between the AU and the URNC reached their breaking point, the URNC invaded the GAVIRUL Project lab. What happened during the attack is unknown, but Jefuty went missing and was still missing in 2087. Carl Mindefeld suspected that the AU was secretly harboring her.
====Pre-game timelines====
=====Operation Bakery=====
| |||
In 2092, the URNC discovered intel about Jefuty's whereabouts in the Northern Caucasus, which was in turn intercepted by MID. The AU deployed eight MID agents, Fox Squad, supported by a TASA strike team, Razor Squad, to extract Jefuty and bring her back to Antarctica as part of operation Bakery. The mission concluded successfully, though Jefuty held the pilot of her evacuation aircraft at gunpoint so they would turn back to save the survivors from Fox and Razor Squads.
The personnel of the operation during the timelines before the pact between Jefuty and Lusica was apparently identical to the later timelines, involving Carl, Jevon, Atena and Mendo, who all survived and returned to Antarctica with Jefuty. They however probably didn't encounter any Shrikes in this timeline, since they were later at a loss to defend against the Shrike invasion of Hollow City. Lige did not yet exist in these timelines.
After meeting Jefuty again during Bakery, Mendo made good on his promise from their childhood and offered Jefuty a hand-made music box.
=====The Pact Declared=====
| |||
During the five years where she was sheltered in Hollow City, Jefuty was used as the key for the Relic contact ceremony under Kämpfe's supervision, using the Hollow City relic to gather scientific knowledge from the Nirvana Domain and help the Antarctic Union military. Mendo led the security team in charge of Jefuty's safety during contact with Superstring Zero inside the Relic.
Jefuty cared little for the way the AU used the knowledge from Nirvana, believing anti-Shrike research to be the real priority due to their uses as weapons, infiltrators, and potential Relic activators. Becoming an anti-Shrike factor would modify Jefuty's DNA to the point that she would no longer be able to activate Relics, but she considered it an advantage in the face of the proliferation of Relic activators: in Nirvana, she had seen that the world would be destroyed if all Relics in Earth were activated.
The plan of the AU was to destroy all Relics, releasing a massive amount of Collapse particles and destroying the surface world, leaving Hollow City as mankind's last refuge. Kämpfe disagreed with the plan of his superiors and secretly helped Jefuty with her anti-Shrike research. In truth, Jefuty could have sent her memories far into the past to create a new timeline where the end of the world would be avoided, but she refused to subject her alternate past self to the crushing despair of this revelation. Instead, she continually attempted to complete the current timeline by destroying every Relic herself. Jefuty believed this was the only path to save Mendo and the world, but she never retained memories of her attempts and always came to the conclusion that her attempt was the first one.
At an unspecified date in 2097 while connected to Nirvana, Jefuty made contact with Lusica, a Shrike consciousness that had entered Nirvana despite Jefuty's efforts to deny the Shrike any entry. Lusica claimed to have entered at some point before the end of the world, after becoming Jefuty's "shadow", and that her arrival created a possibility to save the world. Lusica was a replica of Jefuty made by William with Shrike cells, granting her the ability to use Relics and access Nirvana. Lusica wished to avoid the destruction of the world because she would become lonely, and gave Jefuty the music box gifted to her by Mendo, which would let her access her own memories later. Jefuty reluctantly agreed to listen to Lusica's plan.
Lusica first revealed to Jefuty that the end of the world was already a foregone conclusion in the present timeline. Because of Lusica's existence, William could activate Relics at will, which would eventually lead to the activation of all Relics and the end of the world. Moreover, Jefuty's quest to destroy all Relics would eventually cause Mendo to oppose her. This meant that Jefuty and Mendo only had a few years to spend in peace even in the best-case scenario. Lusica's plan was to prevent her own creation by having Jefuty return to William at the end of Operation Bakery, then prevent him from ever activating the Relics. The anti-Shrike serum would also be completed at an earlier date.
| |||
Resenting William for considering her a mere copy of Jefuty, Lusica wanted to stop him from attaining his dream and demanded that Jefuty surrender her body to her, so that Lusica would enact the plan herself using Jefuty's identity. Lusica's mind would be transferred back in time into Jefuty's body and remain dormant until the time Jefuty would return to William. Meanwhile, Jefuty's mind would be transferred into the past Shrike body of Lusica, from which she would be able to guide the new version of Jefuty. Lusica would eventually take back control of her body, resulting in her mind existing in both her own body and Jefuty's body.
To ensure that the plan would eventually come to fruition, Jefuty would have to retain her connection with Nirvana and her ability to transfer her memories to the past. However, completing the anti-Shrike serum in advance meant altering her DNA and losing her ability to access Nirvana much earlier. By inhabiting Jefuty's body, Lusica's dormant mind would passively enable Jefuty to retain her connection to Nirvana even after altering her DNA. Jefuty agreed to the plan, but added the condition that Lusica allow her to make her goodbyes to Mendo before surrendering her body.
Jefuty and Lusica later met in the garden of the Virtual Consciousness Image, where Lusica expressed delight at the tragic romance of the extreme measures Jefuty was taking to save Mendo. When Lusica asked Jefuty about her motivations for abandoning a life with Mendo, Jefuty replied that she would be satisfied with saving as many lives as possible while preserving the free will of her alternate selves. Lusica didn't accept her answer, pointing out that nothing ever made Jefuty smile, except being with Mendo. Jefuty admitted that what she really wanted was to create for herself a choice that wouldn't result in death and destruction regardless of her decision.
Apparently remaining in Nirvana, out of the normal time flow, these versions of Lusica and Jefuty observed the next timelines while waiting for a version of Jefuty able to carry out their plan.
=====The Pact Implemented=====
Jefuty awakened in her lab, with the music box in hand but no memory of Lusica. She tried to use the music box, but accidentally broke it. Using the lab's vents to circumvent security, Mendo arrived to let Jefuty sample his blood for her anti-Shrike research, and showed her a photo album of Helena and Philip. He then announced he was planning to break out of Hollow City with Jefuty once her research was complete, so they could search for Helena and Philip. Colonel Kämpfe supported the plan, since he could not ensure Jefuty's safety once she no longer had strategic value for the AU. Mendo left the lab with the broken music box to repair it.
Some time later, Eleanor came to Jefuty's house to secretly deliver the results of her latest anti-Shrike experiment under the guise of a medical inspection. The results led to the final formulation of the anti-Shrike serum, which Jefuty later left in her lab to be found by the AU scientists after she was gone. Eleanor also transmitted Mendo's invitation to the National Day Reception, during which he planned their escape from Antarctica, and she forced Jefuty to prepare a dress and makeup for the reception. Eleanor cried when Jefuty confirmed she would be leaving Antarctica and Jefuty apologized to her friend for not learning how to open up to her.
| |||
A month later, the day of the reception, Jefuty and Mendo visited the Martin residence where Helena and Philip used to live. They took down the grave Mendo had erected for his missing parent as a gesture of their resolve to find what had truly happened to them. At the reception, Jefuty and Mendo were led by security guards to a private room where the other Bakery survivors held a goodbye party for them. When they entered the elevator out of Hollow City, Jefuty had a vision of Lusica's arrival and Mendo's death. Mendo gave Jefuty back the repaired music box, and they talked about their life plans in a colonial manor in South America that Mendo owned as a safe house.
When the elevator reached the surface, Lusica launched her attack in Hollow City, causing an explosion. Mendo pushed Jefuty out of the elevator cabin, asking her to leave without him while he returned to defend his home country. Jefuty geared up with the equipment from their escape truck and rappelled down the elevator shaft, finding that the relic had been activated and the area covered in Shrike cells from a URNC infiltrator. After telling the AU defenders how to counter the Shrike, Jefuty reached the Relic, where Mendo had been wounded by Lusica disguised as Jefuty as he attempting to shut down the Relic. With Jefuty no longer able to use Relics, Mendo decided to sacrifice himself by activating the Relic's self-destruct protocol, thus preventing the complete activation of all Relics and the destruction of the world.
| |||
While Lusica had attacked Hollow City and activated the relic on William's orders, her true goal was to test the resolve of the Jefuty from this timeline. After a gruesome fight, both Jefuty and Mendo managed to kill Lusica by planting knives soaked with their own blood into her brain, but both were fatally wounded. After witnessing that Jefuty could kill her as long as she fought for and alongside Mendo, Lusica recognized this version of Jefuty as "the Jefuty who can change fate" and pulled her consciousness into the VCI, provided proof that her timeline was doomed and offered her the terms of their pact.
Jefuty accepted the terms of the pact and died with Mendo shortly before the Relics' destruction.
====Game timelines====
For clarity, the versions of Jefuty and Lusica inherited from pre-game timelines will be designated Nirvana-Jefuty and Nirvana-Lusica from this point on.
=====Lige===== | |||
| |||
In 2084, during the Shrike basal consciousness tests, Jefuty established a telepathic link with specimen β Organism-19782, who displayed fear unlike every other specimen. Jefuty claimed that she couldn't establish a link with the specimen, but asked to approach her despite safety protocols. The specimen fought back against Jefuty's intrusion in her mind and tried to strangle her, but Jefuty managed to soothe her through their telepathic link. The specimen was eliminated, but Jefuty asked to keep her cells alive for further study, while still claiming to William that she didn't establish a telepathic link. She privately asked Philip to transfer the specimen to his lab so she could meet her again, longing for a fellow pan-immusonome while also intending to prevent William from reaching his goal.
Unknown to this version of Jefuty, subject 19782 was Lusica's body hosting the mind of Nirvana-Jefuty, effectively making her Jefuty's mind-double. However, Nirvana-Jefuty had lost her memories during the transfer from 2097.
After the reconstituted specimen was brought to Philip's lab, Jefuty explained to it its own nature as both a part of the Shrike consciousness and a separate mind, and declared that they must be sisters since they could connect their VCIs. To make the specimen its own person, Jefuty gave it a name, Lige, had a picture taken of them as sisters, and asked for Philip and Helena's assistance in making a "gift" to free Lige from the Shrike Progenitor's influence. Jefuty designed a neural inhibitor that would isolate Lige's consciousness. The device was built under Philip's supervision, and Helena directed the ablation of Lige's frontal lobe, forcibly cutting her connection to the Progenitor long enough to install the inhibitor before her brain regenerated.
Jefuty feared that the demands of this side-project would strain her relationship with Philip and Helena, and she doubted the purity of her own intentions for Lige. But the professors supported both her pragmatic intents and her need for a family she could choose and protect. This also enabled Jefuty, Helena and Philip the clear the air regarding their feelings of family, and helped Jefuty accept that she could grow as her own person rather than remaining an experiment all of her life. After the inhibitor's successful implantation, Jefuty took Lige on a weapons training course in preparation for the future. Further analysis of Lige's genetic structure found that her Shrike cells exactly replicated Jefuty's body, opening a new path for anti-Shrike research after the initial experiments on Helena and Mendo.
Jefuty asked Philip to add a bed for Lige in her own room, claiming that the usual safety measures were no longer necessary thanks to the neural inhibitor. When Philip asked why Jefuty treated Lige differently from other test subjects, Jefuty explained on the condition that William never learned about it: she could perceive a “soul” and emotions in Lige, which shouldn't be possible in Shrikes who are merely replicating the Progenitor Noylu. Jefuty demonstrated her telepathic connection to Lige by having her repeat out loud a poem Jefuty was reading. Jefuty already thought of Lige as her “other self”, but had yet to learn Lige's true identity. Being isolated from the other pan-immunosomes, Jefuty had felt an increasing sense of isolation, which had been cured by Lige's arrival.
| |||
In the 7922nd timeline, when the URNC broke into the GAVIRUL Project lab, William personally took part in the attack, killing Philip and Helena for conspiring against him, taking out Lige's neural inhibitor and announcing that he would resume direct experiments on Jefuty. Jefuty broke her handcuffs and use a concealed sidearm to shoot herself in the head. The memories were sent back in time to Lige, who informed Jefuty of these future events. Due to the anti-Shrike serum breakthrough thanks to experiments on Mendo, Jefuty's implanted factor would allow her to destroy Shrikes within four months, but the URNC's attack would occur before that.
Lige insisted to test the serum on her body despite the risks of being destroyed, in order to complete the serum before the attack. Jefuty managed to convince Philip, who kept the experiment a secret from Helena. During the experiment, Jefuty poured an increasing amount of her blood on Lige's body, slowly melting her in search for the optimal dosage and anatomical weak points. They repeated the experiments over multiple timelines, sometimes managing to fight back for a while against the Shrikes during the URNC attack, but always failing to escape. Moreover, the attack occurred earlier and earlier. Lige insisted to push the experiments to a point where she would be nearly killed, along with Jefuty due to the heavy blood mist generated by Lige's decaying cells. In a near-death experience, Lige and Jefuty attained a complete memory meld state through Nirvana, allowing Lige to recover her true identity as Nirvana-Jefuty. Lige did not reveal her nature to Jefuty, but encouraged her to bear the pain of failure for the sake of creating the ideal timeline.
After reducing Lige's body to only her head, Jefuty was killed by the Blood Mist, but sent back in time her conclusions for the optimal anti-Shrike weapon: a bullet containing 50 mL of her blood. She shared her discovery with Philip and urged him to prepare immediately for evacuating to Antarctica. In all, Jefuty attempted to save Philip and Helena in thousands of timelines, but eventually stopped trying. The URNC attack still occurred and as in the timelines before the pact, Jefuty and Lige disappeared under unexplained circumstances.
=====Operation Bakery: Chapter 1 timeline=====
| |||
| |||
In this and later timelines, Jefuty directly worked a deal with Colonel Kämpfe, making it a condition to also evacuate her sister Lige. Unaware of Lige's nature, Kämpfe did not include Lige in the mission orders of operation Bakery, which would create drastic complications. Jefuty hoped to join the Antarctic Union where Helena and Philip hailed from, hoping to find a place where to live in peace. Jefuty and Lige embarked on the convoy manned by MID Squad Fox 2-2 under Lieutenant Anderson and made way towards their extraction zone. On 18 December 2092, around 8AM, the convoy was ambushed by URNC troops under Colonel Beria's orders. Beria had received orders to capture Jefuty and Lige on behalf of Professor William, but attempted to destroy them out of personal revenge.
All MID agents were killed and Jefuty told Lige to flee ahead of her while she slowed down their pursuers, but Lige ran into a tank and her body was utterly destroyed. An enraged Jefuty destroyed the tank with a rocket launcher before being forced to flee by enemy troops. Jefuty rushed to the ambush on Fox 2-1 and saved Mendo. She only introduced herself as "Bakery", the mission's objective, and noticed when passing by the road where Lige was killed that her remains had been recovered this time, meaning that the URNC had figured out her identity. Jefuty modified Mendo's Material Shuttle to bypass the AU's remote authorizations, pretending that Anderson had showed her how to do it.
Soon after the ambush, an elite squad of the Werewolf Commando Team led by Oleg and Sugar arrived in the Caucasus under William's orders to handle Jefuty's capture. Using her secret nature as a Shrike, Sugar accessed Lige's consciousness and started tracking down Jefuty through her. Without her neural inhibitor to help her maintain control, Lige's body fell under the control of the Shrike consciousness again, but the original mind of Lusica helped her so she wouldn't be completely destroyed.
Following the directions of MID informant "Crane", Jefuty and Mendo attempted to exit the URNC's search perimeter through a nearby bridge and join a Global Rescue Foundation convoy to reach TASA's safehouse β. After finding the code to the bridge's gate in the base, they were forced to abandon this plan and flee the area through the wild on a snowmobile. While tending to a wound Mendo sustained during the chase, Jefuty first noticed his body had been modified after witnessing his enhanced healing. At the safe house, they met Atena, who informed them that Razor's leader Jevon had already declared Operation Bakery failed. Atena challenged Jefuty's identity, calling her a URNC spy. Jefuty sliced her arm to demonstrate her healing abilities and nature, and demanded to be assisted in infiltrating the local URNC base to rescue Lige like Kämpfe had promised her. Atena insisted to confirm the order first, but tranquilized Jefuty after Jevon ordered her to forcefully bring Jefuty to an evacuation point. Jefuty quickly shrugged off the tranquilizer and ran away as URNC troops approached the safe house. Mendo later accused Jefuty of not warning them of the attack, but she wasn't aware the attack would happen since it had never occurred in previous timelines.
On the way to the URNC base, Jefuty noticed that Mendo was following her and saved him from a URNC sniper. Jefuty threatened to kill him if he didn't give her his Material Shuttle, but dropped the threat even after he refused. Mendo offered to exchange the Material Shuttle gor Jefuty's help in rescuing Atena who was still at the safe house, but Jefuty claimed she was already dead, which was confirmed by Crane. Mendo accused Jefuty of taking Atena's death too coldly, and Jefuty retorted that Mendo was too naive to the harshness of the world. Though she knew she had no chance to rescue Lige, Jefuty still went to the URNC base to gather information for the next attempt by another Jefuty. Judging that operation Bakery was still in progress, Mendo decided to assist her.
At Küie cliff, which overlooked the base, Jefuty connected telepathically with Lige, but Lige's body had already been taken over by the Shrike, leaking their location to the URNC troops. Shrike Mitotic Specimens appeared and mortally wounded Mendo. Jefuty kept them at bay with her blood, and she recognized Professors Philip and Helena in the family photo that Mendo looked at in his last moments. Jefuty revealed her true name to Mendo and committed suicide with a grenade.
=====Chapter 2 timeline=====
Jefuty received the memories from the previous timeline just after Lige's death. She took out the URNC troops and their tank before saving Mendo. She openly revealed her name and demonstrated her foresight by predicting Crane's call, then ordered Mendo to make haste to the safe house so they could reach it before Jevon called off operation Bakery. They crossed the bridge quickly and discreetly since Jefuty already knew the code, and successfully boarded the Global Rescue Foundation convoy.
Collapsing Jefuty's weapon into his Material Shuttle and using a cloak to conceal her white hair, Mendo generated fake IDs and presented himself and Jefuty as lost GRF members Hurst and Lisa Lyon to the Dolls manning the convoy. During the trip, a nervous man named Yuri noticed Jefuty's hair color and threatened to denounce her as an ELID infected. Mendo attempted to physically intimidate him but Jefuty defused the situation by claiming to be an albino and soothing a crying baby in the convoy. At a URNC checkpoint, Yuri was revealed to be heavily infected and the soldiers killed him when he attempted to approach them. The soldiers decided to kill all witnesses to prevent a diplomatic incident with the GRF and Jefuty attempted to flee, but Mendo refused to abandon the Dolls and refugees and Jefuty begrudgingly joined the fight.
While Mendo, Valmet and Ruby fought their way to the checkpoint's control room to release the locks on their truck, Jefuty, Betty and Abigail protected the truck and the refugees. Mendo dropped the pendant containing his family photo during the fight and Jefuty picked it up. After fleeing the checkpoint, the convoy dropped Jefuty and Mendo near safehouse β, and Jefuty gave back his pendant to Mendo, prompting him to bitterly talk about his absent parents. They arrived at the safe house while Jevon was still present. Jefuty again demonstrated her identity by cutting her arm, and warned Atena to not attempt to sedate her. She also revealed her nature as a pan-immunosome and demanded that TASA help rescue Lige, before warning that the URNC would soon attack the safe house. Jevon made the empty promise to help her but decided to regroup with the rest of Squad Razor at a second safe house in Ika Mines first.
Jefuty overheard Jevon saying to Mendo that he planned to blow up the escape tunnels to force Jefuty to evacuate. When she confronted Mendo about it, Mendo agreed to disobey Jevon, wanting to help Jefuty protect her family since himself couldn't spend as much time as he wanted with his own. As they fought URNC troops to exit Ika Mines, Jefuty discreetly stole the detonator prepared by Jevon, and when they reached the tunnel, she used it to trap Jevon inside. After leaving the mines, Atena tried to kill Jefuty for betraying them, but Jevon made a radio call and, recognizing that he could not stop Jefuty, ordered Atena to assist her and Mendo in rescuing Lige. Jefuty verbally agreed to wait for Squad Razor near the base, but had no intention to do so as she didn't trust Jevon.
Atena suggested to setup a fake signal in a transmission tower at Küie cliff above the base to lure most of the URNC forces out of the base, before entering it using a paraglider.
| |||
The URNC troops reacted much faster than Jefuty expected from her memories of previous timelines, forcing the AU forces to abandon the plan and jump down the cliff into the contamination zone near the base. While Jefuty healed her leg broken in the fall, she explained to Mendo the nature of the GAVIRUL Project. She also shared her suspicions that the Shrike's involvement meant that William was trying to capture her. While passing through an Epiphyllum field, Jefuty detected Lige's presence and reflexively established a telepathic connection, compromising their position. They were attacked by Lige, who was ordered to bring back Jefuty's head, but bested her by exposing her to concentrated Collapse radiation from burning Epiphyllum flowers. Jefuty was badly wounded after being impaled by Sugar's tail, coated in neurotoxins, but the AU force managed to leave the area by jumping into a subterranean river.
Atena and Mendo wanted to carry Jefuty to Squad Razor for treatment, but Jefuty insisted to reach the URNC base as soon as possible to capture Lige while she was weakened. She asked Atena to perform field surgery on her and excise all of her poisoned flesh and organs so she could regenerate, though she couldn't be anesthesized due to her resistance to tranquilizers. Atena accepted to help Jefuty save Lige since she couldn't save her own sister Eleanor.
With the help of Carl, who had already infiltrated the URNC base alone, the AU force reached the lab where Lige was detained, but Lige suddenly broke out of her healing tank and killed Atena before spawning Mitotic Specimens to attack Jefuty. After taking out the clones with a knife coated in her blood, Jefuty attempted to calm down Lige, but was run through with a blade-arm. Talking through Lige, the Shrike consciousness taunted Jefuty, saying that escaping through higher dimensions wouldn't save her, and Jefuty shot herself in the head with her side arm.
=====Chapter 3 timeline=====
Jefuty received the memories from the previous timeline while preparing to lure out the URNC forces outside the base instead of during the convoy ambush. The spacetime location of the memory transfer changed due to Jefuty and Lige previously establishing a telepathic link in this location.
Now aware that Lige would be deployed in the contamination zone, Jefuty went with Mendo to the Epiphyllum field, while Atena and Carl prepared to lure the garrison out of the base in case Lige was not where Jefuty expected. After crossing an abandoned amusement park crawling with ELID creatures, Mendo suffered from acute Collapse radiation poisoning and Jefuty flushed the Collapse particles out of his body by injecting him with her blood. The lack of adverse effects from the transfusion confirmed that his body was modified by his parents. This also awakened Mendo's memory of his first meeting with Jefuty, and he renewed his promise to make her a gift. Mendo lamented that Jefuty felt more like his parent's child than him, but Jefuty pointed out that his modified body was proof they wanted to protect him.
| |||
Reaching the Epiphyllum field before the URNC, Jefuty crafted blood bullets to prepare for a fight against Lige, but only Mitotic Specimens were deployed. Luring ELID creatures to tie down the enemy troops, Jefuty and Mendo started to leave the area to return to the URNC base, but they ran into Lige. When Jefuty was about to be attacked by ELIDs, Lige temporarily took back control of her body to absorb the creatures into herself and save her sister. The operation left Lige weakened, but her body was too unstable to be captured and Jefuty and Mendo left the area.
They met with Atena near the quarantine wall of the contamination area, where the Werewolves were setting up an ambush, but Atena lured the enemy's attention away by sending an empty paraglider over the wall, and the URNC troops were pinned down after the arrival of a Lambda ELID. As the AU force left the area in a stolen truck, Sugar caught up to them and Jefuty stopped her tail from wounding Atena, cutting off her own wounded hand to prevent the toxins from spreading.
While Carl's orders were to call in an air strike against the URNC base to eliminate William, Jefuty convinced him to let her rescue Lige first, in order to deploy bombs filled with her blood to weaken the Shrikes that would otherwise protect William from the bombardment. Jefuty also wanted to assess the situation for herself since the events of this timeline unfolded differently even when she took the same actions. Before entering the base's lab, Jefuty warned Mendo that they would be ambushed (since Atena had died there in the previous timeline), but Mendo insisted to follow her. Sugar and Mitotic specimens revealed themselves, but were crushed by the crumbling building when Kirill detonated the explosives he had planted in the lab, enabling Jefuty and Mendo to take Lige and flee.
| |||
After fending off the Werewolf team sent after them, the AU team received a call from Crane offering to sell them Lige's neural inhibitor. Even if it was a trap, Jefuty wanted to seize the opportunity to learn the inhibitor's whereabouts. At the exchange's location, they were surrounded by Kirill's traps and armored vehicles, but still prevailed. While Carl, Atena and Jevon returned to tranquilize Lige, who was losing control of her body to the Shrike consciousness, Jefuty and Mendo ran after Kirill. However, Kirill refused to reveal the inhibitor's location and Mendo had to kill him before he could shoot Jefuty.
Jefuty and Mendo returned to the TASA rendezvous point too late and found that Lige had already massacred the soldiers. Jefuty and Mendo managed to weaken the rampaging Lige, but Sugar reappears. She killed Mendo and taunted Jefuty, saying that fleeing to another timeline was useless, before Jefuty stabbed her in the heart. Barely maintining control, Lige begged Jefuty to kill her, and Jefuty embraced Lige to dissolve her with the blood flowing from her wounds. Jefuty then shot herself in the head.
=====Chapter 4 failed timelines=====
Failed timelines are classified by the name of their last level in chapter 4.
======Deviation timeline======
This timeline is mostly a repeat of the Chapter 1 timeline.
| |||
After surviving the ambush of their convoys and reaching the bridge, Jefuty and Mendo failed to break through the URNC forces and stole the snowmobile. They met Atena in safe house β and abandoned her during the URNC assault to reach the URNC base. At Küie cliff, Jefuty connected telepathically with Lige to check her condition, thinking that she could handle the Mitotic Specimens this time, but there were many more than expected. Mendo was killed and Jefuty committed suicide with a grenade. Jefuty learned that she would need the help of the TASA soldiers.
======Cornered Beast timeline======
After Lige's death, Jefuty decided not to rescue Mendo and instead to depart to the URNC base right away, hoping that she wouldn't need the AU's help as long as she acted early. Her trek down the mountain was slowed down by the URNC soldiers, and she caught sight of Mendo, who had followed the same path as her after failing to reach the GRF convoy. Persisting in her intention, Jefuty ignored Mendo, but ended up being tailed by URNC troops and Mitotic Specimens all the way to Küie cliff. Severely weakened by blood loss after using it to kill the Shrikes, Jefuty admitted that she needed the AU's help and used her last remaining strength to shoot herself in the head.
======Deep in the Tiger Den's timeline======
After meeting Jevon at safe house β and leaving him behind at Ika mine like in Chapter 2, Jefuty with Mendo and Atena in tow lured the URNC troops out of the base. Expecting enemy troops to be the same as during her previous tries, Jefuty attempted to break through them to reach the base, but their numbers were much higher than expected and they beat a hasty retreat into the contamination zone. They fought Lige and Sugar, but were once again forced to run away using the underground river. Jefuty noted that there was seemingly no way to recover Lige while she was in the contamination zone.
Later during the night, Jefuty, Mendo and Atena infiltrated the URNC base, hoping to reach Lige before she fell under the Shrike's influence. Her hopes were dashed and Lige attacked her, so Jefuty shot herself in the head, having learned that she should reach Lige no later than 5AM.
======All-Consuming timeline======
After meeting Jevon at safe house β and leaving him behind at Ika mine like in Chapter 2, Jefuty with Mendo and Atena in tow lured the URNC troops out of the base. Jefuty and Mendo then went to search for Lige in the quanrantine zone while Atena and Carl prepared their way out. Avoiding the ELID-infested theme park, Mendo and Jefuty instead snuck into a tourist area and a zoo to plant sonic lures and drive the ELIDs towards the checkpoint out of the quarantine zone, avoiding the Epiphyllum field entirely.
The Werewolves and Lige became bogged down in the fight against the ELIDs and Lige was weakened, but Sugar made sure that the AU couldn't capture her and they ended up evacuating without her. Jefuty planned to instead recover Lige when she was in the URNC base, which would also lead to Sugar being taken down in the lab's explosion, as she saw in Chapter 3. She also needed more information after the neural inhibitor's whereabouts. In the base, Jefuty reached the lab and cleared as much of the Progenitor's erosion from Lige's VCI as possible before Kirill detonated the explosives in the lab, but no information was found about the inhibitor.
They were again chased by the Werewolves as they drove away from the bombardment of the base to join Squad Razor, and again received an offer from Crane to exchange AU technology for the inhibitor. Thanks to Jefuty's knowledge of the trap, they successfully beat Kirill's troops and chased him to nearby Zatra Village. Instead of confronting Kirill as in Chapter 3, Jefuty and Mendo lied in ambush to learn the location of the neural inhibitor. When Beria joined Kirill, he exposed his identity as Crane and his possession of the inhibitor. Based on Beria's actions, Jefuty theorized that he aimed to destroy the Shrike, and thought that she was a Shrike herself. Jefuty couldn't acquire the inhibitor in time before Sugar intervened, killing Kirill and Beria and destroying the inhibitor.
Without the inhibitor, Lige again lost control of her body to the Progenitor and was pacified by the AU after a battle. The Werewolves then attacked and killed the exhausted AU forces, and Jefuty killed herself with a grenade.
======Dead End and Mutual Destruction timelines======
Rushing ahead of Mendo in order to reach the URNC base early, Jefuty crossed path with him while being slowed down by URNC resistance after crossing the bridge. After joining forces with Mendo to take down the enemies, Jefuty threatened to kill him so he would follow her to safety, and only then explained her identity, that they would arrive too late at Jevon's safe house due to missing the GRF convoy, and that Crane was a liability. Instead, she guided him to the URNC base, where they had to help Carl break out of jail and enlist his help. They convened to infiltrate the base later that day, when they received delivery trucks.
As they approached the base, Jefuty noticed that she now perceived Mendo as more skilled than she did in previous timelines, and theorized that memories were not the only aspect amplified by repeated timeline transfers, but also emotions. They entered a mostly empty base, the garrison being en route for Jevon's safe house. Jefuty and Mendo freed Carl, and after reaching the empty training grounds and warning Jevon and Atena of the incoming enemies, Jefuty explained Lige's nature to convince Carl to help rescue her sister while also carrying out an attempt on William's life.
Jefuty's plan was to lure the URNC to the Epiphyllum field, eliminate the Shrikes and capture Lige using her blood and Squad Razor's help. They would then slip away using the underground river, obtain William's location from Lige and call in the air strike to kill him while his Shrike bodyguards were absent. Keeping the main URNC forces occupied by luring ELIDs to the battlefield and using hologram decoys to slip away unnoticed, the AU forces confronted Lige as she approached the Epiphyllum field and successfully subdued her. Protected by the AU forces, Jefuty entered Lige's VCI to clear the Progenitor's influence, and received the unexpected help of Mendo's mental image. Jefuty surmised this was because of Helena and Philip's genetic modifications and a deeper connection between Mendo and Lige.
Jefuty and Mendo reawakaned Lige's consciousness, but also drew out the Shrike Core Consciousness inhabiting Lige's VCI. The timeline then diverges depending on Jefuty's strategic choice.
Dead End Timeline | |||
| |||
Trapping the Core Consciousness deep inside her mind, Lige temporarily regained control of her body, and the AU forces left the area with the Werewolves in pursuit. Under Sugar's influence, the Progenitor soon took over Lige's body again, and Carl ordered Mendo and Jefuty to reach the evacuation point alone. Jefuty attempted to commit suicide, but Mendo stopped her, saying that they still had a chance to recapture Lige. Jefuty embraced Mendo, praising his optimism and courage, and agreed to keep trying in this timeline.
Surrounded by URNC troops in Damania Town, Jefuty and Mendo fought through the night until the arrival of the AU support aircraft. Taking shelter in the chapel of the town, they found that Sugar and Lige were waiting for them inside. Talking through Sugar, William revealed his influence on all the events until this point, and on Jefuty's order, Mendo asked the aicraft to bombard the chapel, killing everyone inside.
Mutual Destruction Timeline
After fighting and killing the Core Consciousness, the AU forces made way to the evacuation point. On the way, the Progenitor launched an attack on Lige's mind, but she managed to fight back and the AU forces severely weakened the Werewolf force attacking them. After they departed, they were tracked down by Sugar, who could sense Lige's mind. Observing Sugar's abilities, Jefuty concluded that she was in fact a higher form of Shrike. The AU's route was cut by a URNC ontingent led by Kirill, out to kill both the AU and Werewolves as revenge for the murder of Beria.
Exploiting the URNC's internal fighting, the AU forces managed to take down Sugar, and Jefuty injected her blood directly into Sugar's neck to neutralize her before they resumed their travel to the evacuation route. They were suddenly attacked by a heavy Shrike Blood Mist and tranquilized Lige, thinking she was the source of the mist, but Sugar appeared, revealing her true form as a powerful Shrike. After Sugar killed or neutralized the AU forces, William talked through her, ordering Jefuty to come back to him, but she refused and committed suicide with a grenade.
=====Negotiations=====
After learning in previous timelines about Beria's possession of the neural inhibitor and Sugar's true nature, Jefuty took action to secure Beria's help. After entering the URNC base, and with some time before Lige was taken over by the Progenitor, she didn't head for the lab but instead convened with Carl. Examining Beria and Kirill's files, Carl confirmed that they were secretly survivors of the Warszawa Incident, which explained why Beria would steal the inhibitor and use his identity as Crane to selectively help Jefuty: his true objective was to kill Lige and Jefuty himself. In order to negotiate with Beria, Jefuty had the AU soldiers obtain footage of Sugar using her Shrike powers to repair the Mitotic Specimens in the lab. After arranging an encounter through Crane's contact, Jefuty and Carl confronted Beria.
Failed timelines | |||
In some timelines, Jefuty failed to understand and exploit Beria's motivations and Beria walked out of the negotiations. Jefuty tried to restrain him, causing the URNC base to enter high alert. In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo met Squad Razor, Jefuty rushed for the lab, but they were too late and the Progenitor had already taken over Lige. They managed to fight back Sugar's troops and weaken Lige so Jefuty could clear the Shrike's influence from her VCI, but Sugar revealed her powers and resurrected all the fallen URNC soldiers, forcing Jefuty to commit suicide with a grenade. In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo did not meet Squad Razor, Jefuty, Mendo and Carl attempted to fight their way out of the base, and joined forces with a group of prisoners staging a jailbreak. However, their efforts were thwarted by Oleg and the Werewolves, who encircled the AU forces and shot Carl and Mendo, and Jefuty committed suicide with a grenade.
Successful timelines | |||
After forcing Beria to admit his past and his hate of Shrikes, Jefuty and Carl cleared up his misconception that Jefuty was a Shrike, pointing out that Operation Bakery would be underprepared to capture her and that William wouldn't be trying to capture her alive if she was a Shrike. In exchange for the neural inhibitor, Jefuty offered Beria her blood bullets, giving him and Kirill a fighting chance against Sugar, after they revealed her true nature. Beria agreed and gave the AU forces the inhibitor's location and a promise not to interfere in their operations.
=====Chapter 4 final timelines=====
Treacherous Road timeline
In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo met Squad Razor, after the negotiations with Beria, the AU forces recovered the neural inhibitor and headed to the lab while Beria confronted Sugar. Guided remotely by Atena and making use of a camo spray to slip by unnoticed, Jefuty infiltrated the lab and recovered Lige, successfully leaving the base before it was bombarded. With Lige's mind protected by the neural inhibitor, the AU forces fought past the URNC's checkpoint of Mount Kushtau and arrived in the town of Larne, suggested by Beria as a safe extraction point.
Rapid Advance Timeline
In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo did not meet Squad Razor, after the negotiations with Beria, Jefuty, Mendo and Carl planned to lure Sugar to the contamination zone and let Beria's troops fight with her, then draw Lige away separately to use the inhibitor on her. Carl offered Beria to join the AU so he could continue to fight the Shrike in the future, but Beria did not trust the AU because they harbored non-humans like Jefuty. Later that night, the distraction plan worked, but Beria died during the fight with Sugar. Having set up gas traps near Lake Belo, the AU forces eliminated attacking Mitotic Specimens and subdued Lige, equipping her with the neural inhibitor. After running to a nearby abandoned munition factory, they successfully lost their pursuers and made way to the town of Larne.
Events convergence | |||
On the way to Larne, the AU force received a radio call from Kirill, who informed them that Beria had been killed by Sugar. Beria's last order was for Kirill to bring their battle fortress to the AU. In Larne, they joined back Squad Razor and Carl received the battle fortress' control key as Kirill breathed his last. Lige felt the presence of Shrike cells on Kirill's body, announcing the impending arrival of Sugar. After a long fight, the Antarctican “Trolley” aircraft Mustang 6 carried an air strike on the city, seemingly eliminating Sugar. This was the first timeline where Jefuty had made it to Larne.
However, Sugar revealed herself as a Shrike Progenitor, trapping the AU forces with Shrike cells structures. With the help of Squad Razor, Jefuty, Lige and Mendo broke out to the extraction point, and Mendo sacrificed himself to take Sugar down a nearby cliff with him. In the evacuation transport, Lige explained to Jefuty the pact between Nirvana-Jefuty and Nirvana-Lusica. Jefuty agreed that she needed to create a new timeline where Mendo was saved, and shot herself in the head.
=====Chapter 5, Final timeline=====
| |||
Jefuty's memories were transferred back to the trip between the URNC base and Larne, in a different timeline where Beria had not yet fought Sugar. Jefuty warned that Larne was not a safe evacuation point, and after some discussion, an air strip near Mineral Water City was selected to take advantage of the city's defenses and the help of the GRF Dolls.
After successfully pushing back the Werewolves and Sugar in Mineral Water City, the AU force retreated to the air field to wait for transport White Crane I, but were again attacked by Sugar, who assumed the massive form of a Reflection of the Progenitor. With the help of air bombardment from Mustang 6, the AU force entered the Reflection of the Progenitor's body to destroy it from the inside. Using blades coated with their blood, Jefuty and Mendo struck at Sugar's heart and eventually destroyed it.
With the transport aircraft approaching and the AU forces alive, Jefuty had to conclude her pact by giving up her body to Nirvana-Lusica. Jefuty kissed Mendo and asked him to forgive her for anything she would do in the future, and he promised to save her one day, though he didn't know from what. Under the pretense of letting Jefuty say her goodbyes to the Caucasus, Lige (now Lusica) took Mendo away and enabled Jefuty to escape. Jefuty took a gyroplane to Montonovka Town, where she was eventually overwhelmed by URNC troops and recovered by William.
In his operation report, Kämpfe claimed that target “Bakery” never actually existed and was a decoy created by the URNC to lead important AU troops into a trap. He used this claim to fight back against political influence in the military and intelligence processes of the AU.

Jefuty explains she was a subject from the Three Goddesses project, and that she felt responsible for the death of the people who died so the factions in the war could capture her, even though she never had a choice in the matter. She asks Mendo to kill her and stop the violence she's causing, but Mendo refuses, trusting her to live her life as she intends. Jefuty smiles and disappear in the mountain woods. The true ending plays like the normal ending, but Jefuty kisses Mendo before running off.
In 2094, the Union located Jefuty in the Bear's Den relics site and staged [[operation | In 2094, the Union located Jefuty in the Bear's Den relics site and staged operation Tinder, a full-on assault designed to seize Jefuty back. The operation fell through again when the local Coalition commander ordered the use of Assault Artillery systems within the relics site, starting an event similar to the one that had led to the First Beilan Island Incident. Union and Coalition high commands collaborated and the Coalition authorized the Union air force to deploy a missile containing a molten plutonium payload to utterly destroy the Bear's Den. Both Jefuty and Noylu were declared MIA.
==In Girl of the Bakehouse==
| |||
In the original short visual novel, Jefuty was a girl working at her aunt's bakery in an unnamed town of Northern Europe during the Antarctic War. Her parents were killed in an air strike against refugees, causing her to hate the Antarctic Union occupiers. After being nursed from an illness at the bakery, the war reporter Mendo fell in love with Jefuty, seeing her as his destined subject as a photograph. When Jefuty told Mendo what happened to her parents, Mendo realized that they had been killed by the strike he had requested from an aircraft he was in, because he wanted to take an action shot, unaware that refugees were being concealed in the fog. Mendo calls in a favor from his sister to bring Jefuty to Antarctica, but a few days later Jefuty revealed that she had stolen a gun and planned to use it to kill Antarctican soldiers. Mendo decided to help Jefuty take her revenge, but didn't have the courage to admit his guilt.
Mendo brought Jefuty into the Antarctican camp under the pretense of a bread delivery, then helped her find a shooting position and shoot a soldier from afar before slipping out unnoticed. After her first kill, Jefuty cut her hair and began a two months killing spree, causing the brass to send in Major Charles, a notoriously violent officer, to find the culprit. Jefuty insisted to use all her shots before leaving for Antarctica, so Mendo admitted his crime and asked Jefuty to kill him with her last bullet, but she refused. She instead killed a visiting high-ranking officer from the town's bell-tower, and when the soldiers entered the tower in search of a shooter, she hid her rifle and kissed Mendo so they could pass as a trysting couple unrelated to the incident.
That night, Charles assembled the town people and announced that he would be executing all of them one by one until the culprit was found. When Mendo tried to interpose, Charles revealed that he knew about the air strike incident, making himself Jefuty's last target. But when her brother Kamon was about to be executed, Jefuty admitted her guilt and was captured. Mendo privately confronted Charles, who confirmed that he was the captain of the aircraft who had made the air strike. Charles intended to kill Jefuty so there would be no more witnesses of the incident, hoping for Mendo's support to save his career. Mendo secretly recorded the conversation and threatened to share it with his agency if Charles didn't release Jefuty, and the Major relented.
The next day, as Mendo and Jefuty were about to board the aircraft sent by Mendo's sister, Jefuty stole a soldier's gun and killed Charles before being shot by the rest of the soldiers. She kissed Mendo and said she wass glad to have finally avenged her parents before dying. Years later, Mendo wondered over Jefuty's grave whether she would have gone on her killing spree and died even without his help.

|trivia=*The Mosin-Nagant is Jefuty's weapon of choice, as the lower metal parts count make it easier to conceal during scanning of refugees convoys, it is harder for authorities to trace as a non-standard issue weapon and ammo, and she just likes the weapon. Despite the difficulty of procuring ammo and its lack of practicality in battle, her enhanced body makes up for these flaws, and in her hands the gun is just as deadly as modern weapons. | |||

Story[edit]
Abilities and personality
As an artificial pan-immunosome (translated as “fully-immune individual” in Reverse Collapse: Code Name Bakery), Jefuty shares the powers of GAVIRUL. Lusica considers Jefuty, and by extension herself, to be a descendant of the Unknown Civilization.[2]
When her brain is destroyed, Jefuty's memories are reverse-collapsed into another version of herself through the Nirvana Domain. She calls this phenomenon "recurrence possibility"[3] or "high-dimensional projection"[2] and describes it as precognitive dreams. This is thought to be a characteristics of GAVIRUL's DNA.[4] Rather than future sight, Jefuty conceives this power as "making up for her mistakes".[5] She has some control over the nature of the memories being transmitted, which enabled her to only share critical information for the most part,[2] but some powerful emotions could also be transmitted and accumulate over multiple timelines.[6] Jefuty was not the only person aware of timeline shifts, and because of this she could not accurately predict every event.[7][8][9][10][11][4] Another effect of this time-bending power is her enhanced body regeneration. Rather than healing, Jefuty's body is "projected back" from her past body through reverse-collapse.[9] She also has the ability to sense the concentration of nearby Collapse particles[8] and possessed a superhuman strength even as a child.[4]
Following DNA alteration, Jefuty's blood became toxic for Shrike cells, making her a counter-weapon in case the URNC military would deploy the Shrike.[4] Jefuty's blood as less effective against higher forms of Shrikes, but it retained some effect on the β Shrike cells[12] and could still kill a Shrike progenitor if it was directly injected into a Shrike Progenitor's core.[13] However, this DNA alteration prevented Jefuty from accessing Nirvana. In later timelines, recurrence possibility occurs through the consciousness of Lusica's residing in Jefuty's mind, not through Jefuty's body.[2]
In later timelines, this made Lige an important person for her.[4] Her exclusive focus on life-altering objectives led her to neglect personal relations and live a minimalistic lifestyle even in peaceful times.[2]
Jefuty's painful resignation to her own fate stands in contrast to Mendo's unwavering optimism and willpower,[14] which is probably why she fell in love with him. This feeling bled through with her countless memory transfers and deepened constantly.[6] Jefuty's willingness to die in thousands of timelines and ultimately sacrifice her mind to ensure Mendo's survival against the Shrike was called “the love of a goddess” by Lusica. In some timelines, Jefuty and Mendo had a daughter called Cloud, but in these and others, Mendo stood against Jefuty in her quest to destroy the relics due to the consequences for the world.[2] ELID creatures are one of the few things Jefuty is scared of, so she disapproves Mendo's fascination for them.[15][16]
Jefuty genuinely considered Helena her mother for birthing her and caring for her, and she didn't resent Helena for fulfilling her duty by experimenting on her. Jefuty was more prickly against Philip and refused to call him her father, arguing they had no biological relation, but she ultimately trusted and cared for him as one.[4] Jefuty said she inherited Helena's will and Mendo inherited Philip's bravery, and she felt guilty that the professors spent more time with her than Mendo because of their duty as scientists.[2] Though Jefuty's stubbornness clashed with Atena's prudent and by-the-book nature during Operation Bakery, they ultimately bonded over their devotion to their own sisters.[17][18] In the pre-game timelines, Atena still held Jefuty in high esteem in the years after Operation Bakery.[2] Jefuty had less kind dispositions towards Jevon for his more duplicitous character compared to Atena,[19] yet she included him implicitly in her objective to have all Bakery members survive.[2] In the early timelines where they knew each other, Jefuty was close to Eleanor, who encouraged her to be more open with her emotions and considerate to her loved ones.[2] Jefuty hated William for his complete lack of remorse for killing countless human-looking Shrike specimens during his experiments, a sentiment that was shared by Philip. She also mocked William's many personal security measures, seeing them as proof that he deeply feared death.[4] Though Colonel Beria considered Jefuty a monster on par with the Shrike, he noted that they shared the will to sacrifice themselves for the sake of mankind.[2]
Conception: the GAVIRUL Project
Jefuty was born in 2078[Note 2] under the designation G-179. She was gestated and birthed by Helena Martin, one of the GAVIRUL Project researchers.[20] The subjects were considered stillborns, but were made alive using the Thorn Collar device of Professor William from the URNC team in 2079.[21][22] As pan-immunosomes, all three subjects were capable of consciousness resonance with each other.[23] Philip, Helena and William each named one of the subjects.[24][Note 3]
Helena developed second thoughts about her involvement in the project, as she felt torn between her instinctive role as a mother towards Jefuty, and her duty as a scientist to experiment on her. Jefuty herself, while grateful for the kindness displayed by Helena and Philip and accepting them as surrogate family, felt that their relationship would always be limited by the fact that she was inhuman, holding too much knowledge and memories for her young body and feeling like she couldn't become more than just a successful embryo to be used for experiments.[4] In spite of this, they still enjoyed acting as a family and Jefuty learned to play the violin from Helena.[2]
Jefuty was at first used for Relic response experiments, but the project eventually shifted away from these experiments and Jefuty became isolated from other virtual consciousnesses.[4] A URNC spy within the project observed that William had "abnormal emotions" toward Jefuty,[25] calling her the project's goddess.[4] As part of his search of a potential pan-immunosome clone capable of using Relics, William pressured Philip and Jefuty into tedious basal consciousness tests on Shrike specimens. Jefuty attempted to establish a telepathic link with each specimens, who were destroyed if it failed. Jefuty thought a virtual consciousness could not appear in an artificial being and that William's experiments were uselessly cruel.[4]
In 2084, Colonel Kämpfe brought Mendo, Helena and Philip's child, to the GAVIRUL Project lab[5] to be used as a test subject for his parents' anti-Shrike research. The experiment was intended to change Jefuty's genetic makeup so her body would produce the anti-Shrike serum, but the tests had to be carried on subjects with a similar genetic sequence. After Helena's body could no longer bear the stress of the experiments, she reluctantly agreed to use Mendo as a test subject.[4] Impatient to meet his parents, Mendo left the room he was locked in through the air ducts and managed to avoid the guards to reach Philip's office. He was captured by Jefuty, who caught him in an armlock from behind and brought him to Philip after learning his identity and blindfolding him so he wouldn't come in contact with classified material. Mendo didn't see Jefuty's face or learn her name at that time, but promised to make her a gift one day.[5]
In 2085, as political tensions between the AU and the URNC reached their breaking point, the URNC invaded the GAVIRUL Project lab.[26][27] What happened during the attack is unknown, but Jefuty went missing and was still missing in 2087.[28] Carl Mindefeld suspected that the AU was secretly harboring her.[26]
Pre-game timelines
Operation Bakery
In 2092, the URNC discovered intel about Jefuty's whereabouts in the Northern Caucasus, which was in turn intercepted by MID. The AU deployed eight MID agents, Fox Squad, supported by a TASA strike team, Razor Squad, to extract Jefuty and bring her back to Antarctica as part of operation Bakery.[29] The mission concluded successfully, though Jefuty held the pilot of her evacuation aircraft at gunpoint so they would turn back to save the survivors from Fox and Razor Squads.
After meeting Jefuty again during Bakery, Mendo made good on his promise from their childhood and offered Jefuty a hand-made music box.[2]
The Pact Declared
Lusica wished to avoid the destruction of the world because she would become lonely, and gave Jefuty the music box gifted to her by Mendo, which would let her access her own memories later.[Note 4] Jefuty reluctantly agreed to listen to Lusica's plan.
Apparently remaining in Nirvana, out of the normal time flow, these versions of Lusica and Jefuty observed the next timelines while waiting for a version of Jefuty able to carry out their plan.[2]
The Pact Implemented
Mendo gave Jefuty back the repaired music box,[Note 4] and they talked about their life plans in a colonial manor in South America that Mendo owned as a safe house.
Jefuty accepted the terms of the pact and died with Mendo shortly before the Relics' destruction.[2]
Game timelines
For clarity, the versions of Jefuty and Lusica inherited from pre-game timelines will be designated Nirvana-Jefuty and Nirvana-Lusica from this point on.
Lige
She privately asked Philip to transfer the specimen to his lab so she could meet her again, longing for a fellow pan-immusonome while also intending to prevent William from reaching his goal.[4]
Unknown to this version of Jefuty, subject 19782 was Lusica's body hosting the mind of Nirvana-Jefuty, effectively making her Jefuty's mind-double. However, Nirvana-Jefuty had lost her memories during the transfer from 2097.[2]
After the reconstituted specimen was brought to Philip's lab, Jefuty explained to it its own nature as both a part of the Shrike consciousness and a separate mind, and declared that they must be sisters since they could connect their VCIs.
Further analysis of Lige's genetic structure found that her Shrike cells exactly replicated Jefuty's body, opening a new path for anti-Shrike research after the initial experiments on Helena and Mendo.[4]
Jefuty demonstrated her telepathic connection to Lige by having her repeat out loud a poem Jefuty was reading.[30] Jefuty already thought of Lige as her “other self”, but had yet to learn Lige's true identity.[30] Being isolated from the other pan-immunosomes, Jefuty had felt an increasing sense of isolation, which had been cured by Lige's arrival.[4]
In the 7922nd timeline,[Note 5] when the URNC broke into the GAVIRUL Project lab, William personally took part in the attack, killing Philip and Helena for conspiring against him, taking out Lige's neural inhibitor and announcing that he would resume direct experiments on Jefuty.
In a near-death experience, Lige and Jefuty attained a complete memory meld state through Nirvana,[4] allowing Lige to recover her true identity as Nirvana-Jefuty.[2] Lige did not reveal her nature to Jefuty, but encouraged her to bear the pain of failure for the sake of creating the ideal timeline.
After reducing Lige's body to only her head, Jefuty was killed by the Blood Mist, but sent back in time her conclusions for the optimal anti-Shrike weapon: a bullet containing 50 mL of her blood. She shared her discovery with Philip and urged him to prepare immediately for evacuating to Antarctica.[4] In all, Jefuty attempted to save Philip and Helena in thousands of timelines, but eventually stopped trying.[5] The URNC attack still occurred and as in the timelines before the pact, Jefuty and Lige disappeared under unexplained circumstances.
Operation Bakery: Chapter 1 timeline
In this and later timelines, Jefuty directly worked a deal with Colonel Kämpfe, making it a condition to also evacuate her sister Lige. Unaware of Lige's nature, Kämpfe did not include Lige in the mission orders of operation Bakery, which would create drastic complications.[31] Jefuty hoped to join the Antarctic Union where Helena and Philip hailed from, hoping to find a place where to live in peace.[32] Jefuty and Lige embarked on the convoy manned by MID Squad Fox 2-2 under Lieutenant Anderson and made way towards their extraction zone.
An enraged Jefuty destroyed the tank with a rocket launcher before being forced to flee by enemy troops.[33][34] Jefuty rushed to the ambush on Fox 2-1 and saved Mendo.[35] She only introduced herself as "Bakery", the mission's objective, and noticed when passing by the road where Lige was killed that her remains had been recovered this time, meaning that the URNC had figured out her identity.[36] Jefuty modified Mendo's Material Shuttle to bypass the AU's remote authorizations, pretending that Anderson had showed her how to do it.[37]
Soon after the ambush, an elite squad of the Werewolf Commando Team led by Oleg and Sugar arrived in the Caucasus under William's orders to handle Jefuty's capture. Using her secret nature as a Shrike, Sugar accessed Lige's consciousness and started tracking down Jefuty through her.[34] Without her neural inhibitor to help her maintain control, Lige's body fell under the control of the Shrike consciousness again,[17] but the original mind of Lusica helped her so she wouldn't be completely destroyed.[5]
Following the directions of MID informant "Crane", Jefuty and Mendo attempted to exit the URNC's search perimeter through a nearby bridge[36] and join a Global Rescue Foundation convoy to reach TASA's safehouse β. After finding the code to the bridge's gate in the base,[37] they were forced to abandon this plan and flee the area through the wild on a snowmobile.[38] While tending to a wound Mendo sustained during the chase, Jefuty first noticed his body had been modified after witnessing his enhanced healing. Jefuty quickly shrugged off the tranquilizer and ran away as URNC troops approached the safe house.[32] Mendo later accused Jefuty of not warning them of the attack, but she wasn't aware the attack would happen since it had never occurred in previous timelines.[7]
Judging that operation Bakery was still in progress, Mendo decided to assist her.[7]
At Küie cliff, which overlooked the base, Jefuty connected telepathically with Lige, but Lige's body had already been taken over by the Shrike, leaking their location to the URNC troops. Shrike Mitotic Specimens appeared and mortally wounded Mendo. Jefuty kept them at bay with her blood, and she recognized Professors Philip and Helena in the family photo that Mendo looked at in his last moments. Jefuty revealed her true name to Mendo and committed suicide with a grenade.[39]
Chapter 2 timeline
The soldiers decided to kill all witnesses to prevent a diplomatic incident with the GRF and Jefuty attempted to flee, but Mendo refused to abandon the Dolls and refugees and Jefuty begrudgingly joined the fight.[40]
While Mendo, Valmet and Ruby fought their way to the checkpoint's control room to release the locks on their truck, Jefuty, Betty and Abigail protected the truck and the refugees. Mendo dropped the pendant containing his family photo during the fight and Jefuty picked it up. After fleeing the checkpoint, the convoy dropped Jefuty and Mendo near safehouse β, and Jefuty gave back his pendant to Mendo, prompting him to bitterly talk about his absent parents.[41] They arrived at the safe house while Jevon was still present.
Jefuty overheard Jevon saying to Mendo that he planned to blow up the escape tunnels to force Jefuty to evacuate.[42] When she confronted Mendo about it, Mendo agreed to disobey Jevon, wanting to help Jefuty protect her family since himself couldn't spend as much time as he wanted with his own.[30] As they fought URNC troops to exit Ika Mines, Jefuty discreetly stole the detonator prepared by Jevon, and when they reached the tunnel, she used it to trap Jevon inside.
Atena suggested to setup a fake signal in a transmission tower at Küie cliff above the base to lure most of the URNC forces out of the base, before entering it using a paraglider.[43]
While passing through an Epiphyllum field, Jefuty detected Lige's presence and reflexively established a telepathic connection, compromising their position.[8] They were attacked by Lige, who was ordered to bring back Jefuty's head, but bested her by exposing her to concentrated Collapse radiation from burning Epiphyllum flowers.
Atena accepted to help Jefuty save Lige since she couldn't save her own sister Eleanor.[17]
Talking through Lige, the Shrike consciousness taunted Jefuty, saying that escaping through higher dimensions wouldn't save her, and Jefuty shot herself in the head with her side arm.[18]
Chapter 3 timeline
Jefuty received the memories from the previous timeline while preparing to lure out the URNC forces outside the base instead of during the convoy ambush. The spacetime location of the memory transfer changed due to Jefuty and Lige previously establishing a telepathic link in this location.
Now aware that Lige would be deployed in the contamination zone, Jefuty went with Mendo to the Epiphyllum field, while Atena and Carl prepared to lure the garrison out of the base in case Lige was not where Jefuty expected.[34] After crossing an abandoned amusement park crawling with ELID creatures, Mendo suffered from acute Collapse radiation poisoning and Jefuty flushed the Collapse particles out of his body by injecting him with her blood.
Reaching the Epiphyllum field before the URNC, Jefuty crafted blood bullets to prepare for a fight against Lige, but only Mitotic Specimens were deployed. Luring ELID creatures to tie down the enemy troops, Jefuty and Mendo started to leave the area to return to the URNC base,[5] but they ran into Lige. When Jefuty was about to be attacked by ELIDs, Lige temporarily took back control of her body to absorb the creatures into herself and save her sister. The operation left Lige weakened, but her body was too unstable to be captured and Jefuty and Mendo left the area.
They met with Atena near the quarantine wall of the contamination area, where the Werewolves were setting up an ambush,[44] but Atena lured the enemy's attention away by sending an empty paraglider over the wall, and the URNC troops were pinned down after the arrival of a Lambda ELID.
Jefuty also wanted to assess the situation for herself since the events of this timeline unfolded differently even when she took the same actions.[9] Before entering the base's lab, Jefuty warned Mendo that they would be ambushed (since Atena had died there in the previous timeline), but Mendo insisted to follow her. Sugar and Mitotic specimens revealed themselves, but were crushed by the crumbling building when Kirill detonated the explosives he had planted in the lab, enabling Jefuty and Mendo to take Lige and flee.[3]
After fending off the Werewolf team sent after them, the AU team received a call from Crane offering to sell them Lige's neural inhibitor. Even if it was a trap, Jefuty wanted to seize the opportunity to learn the inhibitor's whereabouts.[45] At the exchange's location, they were surrounded by Kirill's traps and armored vehicles, but still prevailed. While Carl, Atena and Jevon returned to tranquilize Lige, who was losing control of her body to the Shrike consciousness, Jefuty and Mendo ran after Kirill. However, Kirill refused to reveal the inhibitor's location and Mendo had to kill him before he could shoot Jefuty.[46]
Jefuty then shot herself in the head.[47]
Chapter 4 failed timelines
Failed timelines are classified by the name of their last level in chapter 4.
Deviation timeline
This timeline is mostly a repeat of the Chapter 1 timeline.
After surviving the ambush of their convoys and reaching the bridge, Jefuty and Mendo failed to break through the URNC forces and stole the snowmobile.[48] They met Atena in safe house β and abandoned her during the URNC assault to reach the URNC base. At Küie cliff, Jefuty connected telepathically with Lige to check her condition, thinking that she could handle the Mitotic Specimens this time,[49] but there were many more than expected. Mendo was killed and Jefuty committed suicide with a grenade. Jefuty learned that she would need the help of the TASA soldiers.[11]
Cornered Beast timeline
After Lige's death, Jefuty decided not to rescue Mendo and instead to depart to the URNC base right away,[50] hoping that she wouldn't need the AU's help as long as she acted early. Her trek down the mountain was slowed down by the URNC soldiers, and she caught sight of Mendo, who had followed the same path as her after failing to reach the GRF convoy. Persisting in her intention, Jefuty ignored Mendo, but ended up being tailed by URNC troops and Mitotic Specimens[51] all the way to Küie cliff. Severely weakened by blood loss after using it to kill the Shrikes, Jefuty admitted that she needed the AU's help and used her last remaining strength to shoot herself in the head.[52]
Deep in the Tiger Den's timeline
After meeting Jevon at safe house β and leaving him behind at Ika mine like in Chapter 2, Jefuty with Mendo and Atena in tow lured the URNC troops out of the base.[19] Expecting enemy troops to be the same as during her previous tries, Jefuty attempted to break through them to reach the base, but their numbers were much higher than expected and they beat a hasty retreat into the contamination zone.[10] They fought Lige and Sugar, but were once again forced to run away using the underground river. Jefuty noted that there was seemingly no way to recover Lige while she was in the contamination zone.[53]
Later during the night, Jefuty, Mendo and Atena infiltrated the URNC base, hoping to reach Lige before she fell under the Shrike's influence. Her hopes were dashed and Lige attacked her, so Jefuty shot herself in the head, having learned that she should reach Lige no later than 5AM.[54]
All-Consuming timeline
After meeting Jevon at safe house β and leaving him behind at Ika mine like in Chapter 2, Jefuty with Mendo and Atena in tow lured the URNC troops out of the base.[19] Jefuty and Mendo then went to search for Lige in the quanrantine zone while Atena and Carl prepared their way out. Avoiding the ELID-infested theme park,[55] Mendo and Jefuty instead snuck into a tourist area and a zoo to plant sonic lures and drive the ELIDs towards the checkpoint out of the quarantine zone, avoiding the Epiphyllum field entirely.[15]
She also needed more information after the neural inhibitor's whereabouts.[16] In the base, Jefuty reached the lab and cleared as much of the Progenitor's erosion from Lige's VCI as possible before Kirill detonated the explosives in the lab, but no information was found about the inhibitor.[56]
They were again chased by the Werewolves as they drove away from the bombardment of the base to join Squad Razor,[57] and again received an offer from Crane to exchange AU technology for the inhibitor. Thanks to Jefuty's knowledge of the trap,[58] they successfully beat Kirill's troops and chased him to nearby Zatra Village. Jefuty couldn't acquire the inhibitor in time before Sugar intervened, killing Kirill and Beria and destroying the inhibitor.[59]
Without the inhibitor, Lige again lost control of her body to the Progenitor and was pacified by the AU after a battle. The Werewolves then attacked and killed the exhausted AU forces, and Jefuty killed herself with a grenade.[60]
Dead End and Mutual Destruction timelines
Rushing ahead of Mendo in order to reach the URNC base early, Jefuty crossed path with him while being slowed down by URNC resistance after crossing the bridge. After joining forces with Mendo to take down the enemies, Jefuty threatened to kill him so he would follow her to safety, and only then explained her identity, that they would arrive too late at Jevon's safe house due to missing the GRF convoy, and that Crane was a liability. Instead, she guided him to the URNC base, where they had to help Carl break out of jail and enlist his help. They convened to infiltrate the base later that day, when they received delivery trucks.[61]
As they approached the base, Jefuty noticed that she now perceived Mendo as more skilled than she did in previous timelines, and theorized that memories were not the only aspect amplified by repeated timeline transfers, but also emotions. They entered a mostly empty base, the garrison being en route for Jevon's safe house.[6] Jefuty and Mendo freed Carl, and after reaching the empty training grounds and warning Jevon and Atena of the incoming enemies, Jefuty explained Lige's nature to convince Carl to help rescue her sister while also carrying out an attempt on William's life.
Jefuty's plan was to lure the URNC to the Epiphyllum field, eliminate the Shrikes and capture Lige using her blood and Squad Razor's help. They would then slip away using the underground river, obtain William's location from Lige and call in the air strike to kill him while his Shrike bodyguards were absent.[62] Keeping the main URNC forces occupied by luring ELIDs to the battlefield and using hologram decoys to slip away unnoticed,[63] the AU forces confronted Lige as she approached the Epiphyllum field and successfully subdued her. Protected by the AU forces, Jefuty entered Lige's VCI to clear the Progenitor's influence, and received the unexpected help of Mendo's mental image.[64] Jefuty surmised this was because of Helena and Philip's genetic modifications and a deeper connection between Mendo and Lige.
Jefuty and Mendo reawakaned Lige's consciousness, but also drew out the Shrike Core Consciousness inhabiting Lige's VCI. The timeline then diverges depending on Jefuty's strategic choice.[65]
Dead End Timeline
Trapping the Core Consciousness deep inside her mind, Lige temporarily regained control of her body, and the AU forces left the area with the Werewolves in pursuit.[65] Under Sugar's influence, the Progenitor soon took over Lige's body again, and Carl ordered Mendo and Jefuty to reach the evacuation point alone. Jefuty attempted to commit suicide, but Mendo stopped her, saying that they still had a chance to recapture Lige. Jefuty embraced Mendo, praising his optimism and courage, and agreed to keep trying in this timeline.[14]
Surrounded by URNC troops in Damania Town, Jefuty and Mendo fought through the night until the arrival of the AU support aircraft. Taking shelter in the chapel of the town, they found that Sugar and Lige were waiting for them inside. Talking through Sugar, William revealed his influence on all the events until this point, and on Jefuty's order, Mendo asked the aicraft to bombard the chapel, killing everyone inside.[66]
Mutual Destruction Timeline
After fighting and killing the Core Consciousness, the AU forces made way to the evacuation point.[65] On the way, the Progenitor launched an attack on Lige's mind, but she managed to fight back and the AU forces severely weakened the Werewolf force attacking them. After they departed, they were tracked down by Sugar, who could sense Lige's mind. Observing Sugar's abilities, Jefuty concluded that she was in fact a higher form of Shrike. The AU's route was cut by a URNC ontingent led by Kirill, out to kill both the AU and Werewolves as revenge for the murder of Beria.[67]
After Sugar killed or neutralized the AU forces, William talked through her, ordering Jefuty to come back to him, but she refused and committed suicide with a grenade.[68]
Negotiations
After learning in previous timelines about Beria's possession of the neural inhibitor and Sugar's true nature, Jefuty took action to secure Beria's help. After entering the URNC base, and with some time before Lige was taken over by the Progenitor, she didn't head for the lab but instead convened with Carl.[69] Examining Beria and Kirill's files, Carl confirmed that they were secretly survivors of the Warszawa Incident, which explained why Beria would steal the inhibitor and use his identity as Crane to selectively help Jefuty: his true objective was to kill Lige and Jefuty himself. In order to negotiate with Beria, Jefuty had the AU soldiers obtain footage of Sugar using her Shrike powers to repair the Mitotic Specimens in the lab. After arranging an encounter through Crane's contact, Jefuty and Carl confronted Beria.[70]
Failed timelines
In some timelines, Jefuty failed to understand and exploit Beria's motivations and Beria walked out of the negotiations. Jefuty tried to restrain him, causing the URNC base to enter high alert.[70] In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo met Squad Razor, Jefuty rushed for the lab,[71] but they were too late and the Progenitor had already taken over Lige. They managed to fight back Sugar's troops and weaken Lige so Jefuty could clear the Shrike's influence from her VCI, but Sugar revealed her powers and resurrected all the fallen URNC soldiers, forcing Jefuty to commit suicide with a grenade.[72] In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo did not meet Squad Razor, Jefuty, Mendo and Carl attempted to fight their way out of the base, and joined forces with a group of prisoners staging a jailbreak. However, their efforts were thwarted by Oleg and the Werewolves, who encircled the AU forces and shot Carl and Mendo, and Jefuty committed suicide with a grenade.[73]
Successful timelines
After forcing Beria to admit his past and his hate of Shrikes, Jefuty and Carl cleared up his misconception that Jefuty was a Shrike, pointing out that Operation Bakery would be underprepared to capture her and that William wouldn't be trying to capture her alive if she was a Shrike. In exchange for the neural inhibitor, Jefuty offered Beria her blood bullets, giving him and Kirill a fighting chance against Sugar, after they revealed her true nature. Beria agreed and gave the AU forces the inhibitor's location and a promise not to interfere in their operations.[70]
Chapter 4 final timelines
Treacherous Road timeline
In the timeline where Jefuty and Mendo met Squad Razor, after the negotiations with Beria, the AU forces recovered the neural inhibitor and headed to the lab while Beria confronted Sugar.[71] Guided remotely by Atena and making use of a camo spray to slip by unnoticed, Jefuty infiltrated the lab and recovered Lige, successfully leaving the base before it was bombarded. With Lige's mind protected by the neural inhibitor,[74] the AU forces fought past the URNC's checkpoint of Mount Kushtau and arrived in the town of Larne, suggested by Beria as a safe extraction point.[75]
Later that night, the distraction plan worked, but Beria died during the fight with Sugar.[76] Having set up gas traps near Lake Belo, the AU forces eliminated attacking Mitotic Specimens and subdued Lige, equipping her with the neural inhibitor. After running to a nearby abandoned munition factory,[77] they successfully lost their pursuers and made way to the town of Larne.[78]
Events convergence
On the way to Larne, the AU force received a radio call from Kirill, who informed them that Beria had been killed by Sugar. Beria's last order was for Kirill to bring their battle fortress to the AU. In Larne, they joined back Squad Razor and Carl received the battle fortress' control key as Kirill breathed his last. Lige felt the presence of Shrike cells on Kirill's body, announcing the impending arrival of Sugar.[75][78] After a long fight, the Antarctican “Trolley” aircraft Mustang 6 carried an air strike on the city, seemingly eliminating Sugar. This was the first timeline where Jefuty had made it to Larne.[79]
However, Sugar revealed herself as a Shrike Progenitor, trapping the AU forces with Shrike cells structures. With the help of Squad Razor, Jefuty, Lige and Mendo broke out to the extraction point, and Mendo sacrificed himself to take Sugar down a nearby cliff with him.[31] In the evacuation transport, Lige explained to Jefuty the pact between Nirvana-Jefuty and Nirvana-Lusica. Jefuty agreed that she needed to create a new timeline where Mendo was saved, and shot herself in the head.[2]
Chapter 5, Final timeline
Jefuty's memories were transferred back to the trip between the URNC base and Larne, in a different timeline where Beria had not yet fought Sugar. Jefuty warned that Larne was not a safe evacuation point, and after some discussion, an air strip near Mineral Water City was selected to take advantage of the city's defenses and the help of the GRF Dolls.[2]
After successfully pushing back the Werewolves and Sugar in Mineral Water City, the AU force retreated to the air field to wait for transport White Crane I, but were again attacked by Sugar, who assumed the massive form of a Reflection of the Progenitor.[80] With the help of air bombardment from Mustang 6, the AU force entered the Reflection of the Progenitor's body to destroy it from the inside.
Under the pretense of letting Jefuty say her goodbyes to the Caucasus, Lige (now Lusica) took Mendo away and enabled Jefuty to escape.[13] Jefuty took a gyroplane to Montonovka Town, where she was eventually overwhelmed by URNC troops and recovered by William.[81]
In his operation report, Kämpfe claimed that target “Bakery” never actually existed and was a decoy created by the URNC to lead important AU troops into a trap. He used this claim to fight back against political influence in the military and intelligence processes of the AU.[82]

In Codename: Bakery Girl
Jefuty is one of the three test subjects produced during the Three Goddesses project in 2078, along with Lunasia and Noylu. She is also a protagonist in Codename: Bakery Girl.
Jefuty was born in 2078 as a subject of the Three Goddesses project. Her DNA is a mix of human and GAVIRUL genes, and a reproduction of test subject Rose from the earlier Black Lily and White Rose project. Jefuty was the only test subject to ever be delivered through natural means.
When the Three Goddesses project fell through due to political tensions in 2085, Jefuty was lost in the confusion. Noylu was in the hands of the Union of Rossartrism Nations Coalition and Lunasia was under Antarctic Union control, but they both fell shorts of initial expectations when they failed to activate relics sites. Both factions went to search for Jefuty, hoping the unique circumstances of her birth would have gave her new capabilities.[83] During the First Antarctic War, finding Jefuty became of utmost strategic importance for the Coalition in order to bridge their technological gap with the Union.[84]
The search for Jefuty ended in 2092, when she was found in the Caucasus by the Coalition. The Union intercepted messages about the find and deployed their own forces.[85] The Coalition had deployed a brainwashed Noylu under the alias Lige to passively track Jefuty's movements.[86] Jefuty sensed Lige was another test subject and took her as her little sister. They both promised to find their mother.[87] On December 18th, 2092, two teams of the Union's Main Intelligence Directorate approached the refugees convoy Jefuty was hiding in to capture her as part of operation Bakery, but Coalition troops attacked, killing all MID agents and civilians in order to capture Jefuty. Jefuty and Lige tried to run away, but they were confronted by a tank who killed Lige gruesomely with his machine gun and main cannon. As she was running away, Jefuty witnessed two men approaching Lige's mangled body as it reassembled itself, and one of the men gave her a drug to accelerate her recovery.[86]
Jefuty found the MID agent Mendo knocked out by an explosion and dragged him with her into the woods, tending to his wounds.[88] Her plan was for the fight between factions to continue and generate as much chaos as possible so she could disappear more easily,[89] and she helped him reach his support outpost. Mendo having lost most memories of the mission, he didn't yet realize that Jefuty was his objective, nor did the TASA agents who had not been informed of the objective of the mission.
In the night of 18th to 19th December, Jefuty revealed to Mendo that she knew the location of the Coalition officer who had staged the attack, Major Beria, and both set off without informing the TASA agents to take their revenge.[90] While running reconnaissance, Jefuty spotted Beria speaking with the other man she had seen in the wood and Lige herself, who uncovered her position and forced Jefuty and Mendo to run away into a nearby infection zone inhabited by ELIDs.[91] There, they were helped by Lige, who informed them that soldiers were leaving the base open to an attack before leaving.[92]
Joining forces with other MID survivors, Mendo and Jefuty infiltrated the base but fell into an ambush set by Beria. Jefuty asked Beria what had happened to Lige,[93] and he revealed how she was used to track her down and her true name. The MID troops managed to break the encirclement with a diversion, but they were stopped by Noylu, who resented Jefuty for abandoning her and carried out a plan to bring Jefuty back to their father. Jefuty refused and fought Noylu to leave the base, but a Coalition army was closing in to capture her and their TASA extraction ship would take 30 minutes to reach them.[87]
The group hid in an old church to fend off Beria's troops while waiting. Before the battle broke off, Mendo told Jefuty he had realized she was his objective from the start, but expressed that he was happy to bond with her during the last two days, though she did not smile once. The Union soldiers and Jefuty managed to defend against Beria's troops and Assault Artillery platforms, and when the enemy troops ran thin, Mendo and Jefuty went after Beria himself.
In the bad ending of the game, Beria taunts Jefuty, saying she will never see her sister again before dying. Mendo tells Jefuty this is a trap, but she shoots him in the leg so he won't try to stop her as she leaves, letting the Antarctican forces recover him. In the normal ending of the game, Beria reveals Jefuty's reasons to keep Mendo alive and laments that she is responsible for many deaths in the war. Mendo then asks Jefuty to tell the truth about her origins. The true ending plays like the normal ending, but Jefuty kisses Mendo before running off.[89]
In 2094, the Union located Jefuty in the Bear's Den relics site and staged operation Tinder, a full-on assault designed to seize Jefuty back. Both Jefuty and Noylu were declared MIA.[94]
In Girl of the Bakehouse

Trivia
- The Mosin-Nagant is Jefuty's weapon of choice, as the lower metal parts count make it easier to conceal during scanning of refugees convoys, it is harder for authorities to trace as a non-standard issue weapon and ammo, and she just likes the weapon. Despite the difficulty of procuring ammo and its lack of practicality in battle, her enhanced body makes up for these flaws, and in her hands the gun is just as deadly as modern weapons.[95]
