A Stargazing Invitation for 2/14

Commander,

I wonder if it is too late to reserve a slot in your schedule. I have been monitoring tonight's weather. It will be a rare moonless night - calm air, even the clouds have dispersed...It's gonna be a flawless evening for us stargazers.

I found a hilltop near the base with a wide, open view. If we head out now, by late night we might be able to see the "zodiacal light" - a faint glow that appears only when the sky is at its purest, like sunlight reflected off dust. It would be a pity to miss a night like this. Also, I've heard that today...seems to carry another sort of meaning. I may not know much about the special emotions humans assign to certain dates, but if it's watching a sky like that with you, I think that "special meaning" wouldn't be a bad thing at all. I've already prepared warm gear and hot drinks. I'll keep an eye on the temperature, but please make sure you stay warm yourself, don't catch a cold on the way. I'll be waiting for you there.

Squad Grizzly just completed the rescue mission of one Willers Finn and are waiting in a bar to deliver Finn to their client. The squad receives the notice about Griffin's restructuring. The team wants to remain together and they decide to seek reassignment in the Green Zone. As the squad is defending against an attack, one of the civilian Dolls in the bar, Claire, is destroyed because she tried to take part in the battle without having a Fire Control Core. AK-Alfa realizes that her squad would lose their FCCs and their ability to defend themselves if they leave for the Green Zone.

During Squad Grizzly's last get-together before their transfer, Alfa secretly decides to apply to remain at Griffin so she can protect her friends, then isolates herself, pretending to care more about her good working conditions in Griffin than them, until the day of their departure. While she thinks she made the right decision, she's still overwhelmed by sadness.

At Griffin & Kryuger following the disbanding and restructuration, AK-Alfa is contesting Helian's decision to put her in Qiongjiu's Frostfall Squad. She would prefer to operate alone since she's the only member of Squad Grizzly who decided to remain at Griffin. The others left to take civilian jobs in the Green Zone: PzB39 now works in an auto repair shop and M82 in a library. Helian insists, as Griffin's old business partners have walked away and contracts are now scarce. Since Lind is out of commission after their previous missionQiongjiu needs an elite T-Doll to replace her and tackle a commission from a businessman named Henryk Wieniawski. Alfa is diligent enough to accept but doubts she'll agree to join the team permanently. When Alfa introduces herself to Frostfall, it is immediately apparent that her calm and professional personality is incompatible with Cheeta's pushy and self-centered demeanor. Qiongjiu requests that Alfa uses a new name for policy reasons, and she chooses the name Tololo, after the observatory which first captured the transit of Mercury.

The commission involves a trip to the Carlos Auto Repair Shop in a satellite city of Dresden, Germany, to retrieve a robot containing sensitive information about local black markets. The stolen robot is also of interest to Wieniawski's business rival, Abel Stark. The shady commission speaks volume about the lows Griffin has to stoop to in order to stay in business. The auto shop also happens to be where PzB is now working. When Frostfall Squad arrives, the auto shop has become a battlefield as Stark's men are attacking. Frostfall manages to limit damages and seize their objective before the police intervenes, but Tololo focuses on protecting PzB and Qiongjiu ends up badly damaged. Before Frosftfall leaves, PzB encourages Tololo to learn to trust her new squadmates like she did with Squad Grizzly. After hiding it for so long so her friends could pursue their dreams without holding back for her sake, Tololo explains her reason for remaining in Griffin: when they left, the members of Squad Grizzly had their Fire Control Core taken away and are now defenseless civilian Dolls. This called to her memory the loss of the civilian Doll Claire during one of Squad Grizzly's missions, so Tololo remained in Griffin to protect her former teammates when the time comes. After being scolded by Qiongjiu for not communicating properly during the mission, Tololo is invited to a sci-fi movie night by the rest of Frostfall Squad. She also receives a picture from the rest of the former Squad Grizzly wishing her well.

When she eventually boards the Elmo, Tololo relates the events to the Commander while watching The Origins of the Universe, and she asks them to help her improve her interpersonal skills.

Elmo's Wishing Well

Tololo's Observatory Discovery

It appears there's an observatory nearby...

Commander... In the settlement where we've temporarily halted, there's a small tavern. There, I encountered an elderly gentleman who shared stories from his youth... Once, about 5 kilometers from this town, stood an observatory. In his younger days, he would often visit with his wife. Year after year, the starry sky bore witness to their romantic moments.
But then... the emergence of the ELID infected and the Varjagers affected the village. It gradually declined, and the observatory fell into ruin. Now, years after his wife's passing, the old man is preparing to move to the Green Zone to live with his children who work there.
Before he leaves... he yearns to visit the observatory one last time. To gaze once more upon the place where he and his wife made countless wishes upon the stars.
So... I want to help him return to that stargazing spot. I've inquired with local residents and personally investigated the observatory ruins. I've compiled a list of necessary tasks to restore the observation area.
My wish... is to complete these tasks and help the old man bid a proper farewell to his hometown. Would you... help me fulfill this wish?

To: Commander

Thank you for your help... It provided the old gentleman with a tranquil evening. Unfortunately, that night, the sky failed to clear...
A few days ago, a letter arrived with the undergrounds brokers’ goods. I never told the old man my identity or whereabouts, so I suppose he or his children found their own way to send it. It was a handwritten letter—for humans, isn't that... a most sincere form of expression?
In his letter, the old man said that on that night, as he gazed at the starless sky obscured by clouds, his heart became incredibly clear. He had thought this departure from his hometown would be a final farewell to his wife. Once in the Green Zone, in his remaining years, he'd struggle to see a true, clear starry sky. All his memories would fade along with those stars... Yet, upon revisiting that place, he didn't react as he'd expected. He didn't weep over memories or curse the inconsiderate clouds... He just felt calm. Those starry nights, his wife leaning on his shoulder, all with the carefully maintained observatory... They had become like driftwood in the old man's memories, gradually drifting away with time...
Commander... Perhaps the wish I made was both sad and just couldn't be helped... Did you... already know that this would happen? Is that why you didn't come along that night?
But still... I want to remember this. To share with you, someday, the starlight we witnessed together.

Mail - Exilium 1 Year Anniversary

Tololo's Anniversary Message

The time has come to commemorate another cycle of revolution, Commander.

While recalibrating the telescope last night, I observed the exact moment bridging the old and the new period-and, for some reason, I thought of you.

Because those stars that seem isolated are, in truth, bound together by their constellations, even across light-years of separation.

Likewise, you always read through the thoughts hidden behind my silence, sometimes even before I myself notice the fluctuations in my mind.

This resonance-beyond any algorithm can decipher-makes me believe there truly exists a bond greater than quantum entanglement.

As for my anniversary wish... I want to share the latest image of the Orion Nebula, with you-of course, once the mission is complete.

Tololo
