Weapon Background

The AN-94, or Avtomat Nikonova 1994, is a 5.45x39mm caliber gas-operated Russian firearm made by PO Izhmash made during Project Abakan. Project Abakan was a Russian assault rifle program that took place from 1980 to 1994. Being the only outcome from the project, AN-94 was awarded with the name Abakan. The GRAU designation for the AN-94 is '6P33'.

The aim of Project Abakan was to cover up the combat deficiency created after enlisting the service of the 5.45mm caliber AK-74, and to improve the infantry's 'Required Operational Capability', aiming to improve short burst firing accuracy for the standard service rifle. Nikonov's ASM prototype defeated many competing designs, including the AEK-971 and Stechkin's TKB-0148, and emerged as a victor. The rifle was then given the designation AN-94.

The AN-94 is an unique rifle in many aspects. It uses an unconventional method of operation, utilizing a pulley system with a steel wire to load its rounds into the chamber, and employs a rotating bolt to lock the action. This system is called "Blow-back shifted pulse" by Russian engineers. The AN-94s uniqueness is all to facilitate a 2-round hyper burst fire mode, that fires two projectiles at approximately 1800 rounds per minute with minimal to practically non-existent recoil and extreme accuracy. The recoil mitigation is due to the barrel, gas tube, receiver, and bolt carrier existing as a single component group that moves back and forth along an axis parallel to the bore, suspended within the composite fiber/polymer stock. This manner of operation is very similar to the German G11 prototype rifle. This separates the events inside the rifle from the user, which results in low felt recoil. The motion described is also employed by design to drive the unique rotary conveyor mechanism (the pulley system) that performs the separate ammunition pre-feeding cycle that is key to the extremely rapid two round burst function that defines the AN-94 system. The magazine was made to be canted several degrees to the right from the center: this was a necessary design feature to accommodate the unique ammunition feed mechanism.

However, as a result of its complexity, the AN-94 is incredibly user unfriendly when it comes to maintenance. It can take the user weeks and possibly even months to learn how to properly assemble and disassemble the rifle, resulting in the rifle being unfit to be a service rifle. Instead, the AN-94 was transferred to being a limited rifle for limited roles, mainly to be used within Russian internal affairs, FSB, and Spetsnaz units. The rifle itself, however, is an excellent choice for a professional operator: its accuracy and 2-round burst is incredibly effective at a distance, and is able to penetrate body-armor with speed and precision.

Character Design

A T-Doll around 155-160cm in height, with long curvy blonde hair and blue eyes. Her combat attire consist of three layers: a jacket, an accessory body belt, and a cloak. She also comes with a gas mask of some sort that she occasionally make use of. Unlike her teammate AK-12, AN-94 has opted to wear shorts and low knee boots.

Trivia

• Due to its ridiculous complexity, the rifle has earned the nickname "Russian Space Magic", probably in a reference to the H&K G11.
• With the game being set in northwest Asia/eastern Europe, the KCCO (military) faction human soldiers use AN-94 rifles in their CG art, namely Major Yegor.
  • The military-grade android Cyclops employed by the KCCO faction carries what appears to be a futuristic remake of the AN-94.
• AN-94's ability causing targets to be hit twice is a reference to the AN-94's unique two-round "hyper-burst" feature, where the weapon fires two bullets faster than its user can perceive the recoil of the first shot.
• A wolfpack was found in the pet adoption centre sometime in April, although they appear non-hostile, staff and T-Dolls are to exercise caution when venturing the dorms. Please refrain from petting the wolves.
