Weapon Background

The OTs-14 “Groza” ("Thunderstorm" or "Terror") bullpup configured, modular assault rifle system was developed during the early 1990s by V. Telesh and Ju. Lebedev at the TsKIB SOO (Central Design Bureau for Sporting and Hunting Arms). Like the predecessor project Tiss, Groza's design is also based on AKS-74U, an attempt to integrate all the best features from close quarter combat weapons into one singular unit. Groza units have a great amount of exchangeable parts with 74U.

As a modular unit, Groza can cope with different many cartridge types such as the Soviet 7.62x39mm M43, 5.45x39mm M74, 5.56x45mm NATO and 9x39mm SP-5/6. The modular design allows Groza to be quickly refitted and chamber different calibre munitions for any given mission types, or a hot swap of configuration on the field, filling roles from a short range carbine to a longer range DMR. MVD (Ministry of Internal Affairs) at the time was only interested in the 9x39mm subsonic firing configuration known as Groza-4 with the on going conflicts in Chechnya, only the Groza-4 kits was produced at that time. Though the 7.62x39mm firing Groza-1 kit was manufactured later on after finding procurement client(s).

Groza works on the same internal operational principle as AKS-74U, but the gas-operated, rotating bolt mechanism is set in bullpup configuration instead, the compact bullpup design gave Groza an increased portability and balance feel, proposing that the rifle can be fired single handily without issues. Even the some of the features such as the selective firing modes on 74U was retained. Groza-4 makes use of the 20-round magazine originally developed for Tiss, able to be fired at a rate of 700 rounds per minute. While Groza-1 is fed the AK-47/AKM 30-round magazine and able to achieve 750 rounds per minute rate of fire.

Like most modular assault rifles, Groza can be outfitted with many combat accessories on the provided rails, scope/optics such as the PSO can be mounted directly on the carrying handle. Standard issue Groza kit comes with specially designed accessories such as suppressors, night optics, fore grips and cleaning kits, on top of all that Groza also had a specially modified GP-25/30 under-barrel grenade launcher unit with the specially made alternative pistol grip design, which could launch the grenade from the launcher and fire the gun with a single trigger pull.

Much like AS Val, Groza is a rare sight to see within the Russian military, Groza is only issued to certain Spetsnaz units and combat engineers of the airborne troops. Groza saw minor live action in the Chechnya counter-terrorism campaigns.[1][2]

Character Design

Groza appears to be a slim built T-Doll with approximated 160-165 cm of body height, long yellow hair with pink-ish hue grown well pass her knees, paired with bright golden eyes. On the Official Girls Frontline Art Book, the artist ASK commented on the designing of Groza:[3]

"The name Groza sounded real cool so I drew a cool looking Russian lady. (觉得闪电这名字特别酷就画了英俊的毛子小姐姐)"

"The hair style is low end twin pony! The tie is a sailor's neckerchief square knot! (发型是低双马尾! 胸前是金鱼草结)"

"By the way, pantsu is the low waist style (啊顺便,内裤,是低腰的)."

Being one of the most adaptive assault rifles in the world, this rifle comes with many spare parts, ASK commented on this in designing ideas on the art book: "The gun had many parts so I gave her a box. (枪的部件比较多就给配了个箱子)". Though this is possibly inspired by the standard issue aluminum box the Groza weapon kits comes with.

In her default art, she is holding the 7.62x39mm M43 firing Groza-1 configuration, the damaged art however shows a slightly different size barrel in terms of width and length, similar to the 9x39mm SP-5/6 firing Groza-4.[4] Groza unit can fire different calibre cartridge by changing components, one of which is the barrel, hot swaps can even be done on the battlefield. Or perhaps this was just a simple artist mistake.
