Early trials using 12.7mm (.50 cal) ammunition proved that APFSDS was a better choice over standard APDS as the fins provided greater stability in flight of the projectile,
as a result, a small number of AMR 5075 rifles were built, the AMR 5075 used a 14.5mm cartridge in a smooth bore barrel. Further trials with the AMR 5075 caused the design to
