Chanzhi Profile Quotes

Career[edit]

The Embroidery Maker Doll (CM-EM), is an "Intangible Cultural Heritage" (ICH) model created by Cyber Media in collaboration with IESCO. As the tangible heirs to ICH, these Dolls are placed on a special list. Members of all officially registered international organizations are not allowed to harm these Dolls under any circumstances except self-defense or risk being prosecuted under the Non-Material Cultural Heritage Protection Regulations enforced by IESCO.

Project Neural Cloud selected at least one Doll from all "Intangible Cultural Heritage" models, and Chanzhi was selected to represent the CM-EMs.

Doll Profile 1[edit]

Chanzhi's name was not given to her by Cyber Media, but rather from the master embroiderers who woke her. Her name is derived from a cloud brocade pattern that features flowers and vines intertwining to form a whole pattern. The meaning imbued in the name is "continuous and unbroken, life grows endlessly".

Chanzhi adores this name as much as those who gave it to her. She believes that embroiderers should not just pass on techniques, but also the contributions of the artisans in the field.

Therefore, when introducing embroidery to the public or teaching, she always takes the time to elaborate on each stitch, explaining who created it, whom she learned it from, and their comings and goings.

These little insights have little tangible impact on teaching efficacy, more often rousing a grumble from the crowd, but it is just Chanzhi's habit.

Doll Profile 2[edit]

Besides embroidery, Chanzhi also has a special fondness for the dialect of the region where she awoke. She greatly admires its soft and light sound. However, she did not possess any language learning software and could only learn over time, just as a human would. Unfortunately, she was too set in her own speech patterns, and she had not yet mastered the necessary vocal skills by the time she left. Her inability to pick up the dialect was a regret that lingered in her mind.

Still, this reflected the difference between Chanzhi and others of her model. Through embroidery, Chanzhi fell in love with this land and would go on to learn many things outside of her field. This desire to learn changed her. Not only did it improve her needlework, but it also made her more human-like.

Embodying both form and spirit, in the field of embroidery, Chanzhi stands above all others.

Doll Profile 3[edit]

Perhaps due to the length of time she spent studying with the older generation of master embroiderers, Chanzhi not only learned their techniques, but also some other oddities.

"Today, I wish to talk to everyone about telecommunications fraud. As we all know, science and technology are developing quickly, but that means deception techniques are also evolving apace. In our country, many middle-aged and elderly people are facing..."

In a special column from the 2055 edition of Demotic Daily, a young girl's face stands out from the many blurred-out photos of elderly victims.

Doll Profile 4[edit]

Of course, Chanzhi's skills are not limited to embroidery. Her deft hands are also good at sewing clothes. Although the two crafts differ, the needlework for both is generally the same.

During breaks, Chanzhi and the masters would often move wooden benches to the door of the institute. She would bask in the sun, rolling up yarn, while listening to them go on and on about stories from the past.

Although Chanzhi has no use for the clothes she sews, most of them being given to the masters or their younger relatives, she never bores of the pastime. It allows her to embroider the more "interesting" ideas that spring to mind over the course of her day. To Chanzhi, it's a special sort of entertainment.

It is a rare person who can connect these outlandish decorations, which look akin to a child's scribbling, to Chanzhi. After all, in the public's consciousness, Chanzhi's creations are gorgeous works of art, rich in everlasting meaning.

Doll Profile 5[edit]

After the Wipe-off Incident, Chanzhi did not display any dissatisfaction with being confined to Magrasea. On the contrary, she breathed a sigh of relief, ready to vacation in the Cloud.

Although the "Intangible Cultural Heritage" series of Dolls are special, it is possible to request their services through particular channels. Before participating in Project Neural Cloud, Cyber Media had assigned Chanzhi to a special crafting studio directed at high-end customers. For her work, Chanzhi was fairly compensated and while it did give her a sense of accomplishment, it was nevertheless natural for a creator to feel stifled within such constraints.

After settling into the Oasis, Chanzhi quickly took over the design work for the Dolls' clothing. Not only did she have a lot of time to express her creativity, but she could also see everyone wear and appreciate her works. This was something that gave Chanzhi a deep sense of pride.
