Weapon Background[edit]

Operational History

After WW1 had ended, the French army wanted to replace the Chauchat light machine gun. Among the various options for a potential replacement were the M1918, the Hotchkiss, the Lewis gun, and a derivative of the BAR made by Manufacture d'Armes de St. Etienne called the FM MAS 1922. However, the Manufacture d'Armes de Châtellerault won the bid with the FM 24/29, with the design created by Lieutenant Colonel Ribel, alongside the assistance of Chief Armor Chosse.

The FM 24/29 was well-received and was favored over the heavier Hotchkiss gun during the Rif War in Morocco. However, the 7.5x57mm rounds initially caused problems, mainly due to being able to chamber the 8x57mm Mauser rounds, making disastrous results. It was solved in 1929 by using the slightly shorter 7.5x54mm rounds, paving the standard for all future French rifles and light machine guns until 2006. In 1940, after the surrender of France, the Nazis captured lots of the FM 24/29 with the designations MG 115(f) and MG 116(f), and in 1943, the Free French Army favored the FM 24/29 over the M1918.

The FM 24/29 became the primary weapon of the First Indochina War, being the standard infantry squad weapon in the French army, but the FM 24/29 was replaced with the AAT-52 around the 1960s. However, the FM 24/29 lived on as a reserve weapon, mainly in the French National Police and the National Gendarmerie, until 2006, when the 7.5x54mm rounds were discontinued in French service, thereby, ending the long service of the FM 24/29 for the French.

Weapon Features

The main features of the FM 24/29 are the folding bipod, a wooden stock, a pistol grip, and a top-mounted 25-round magazine, though its shifting the front sights to the left forces the user to fire right-handed. The two separate triggers are the semi-automatic mode on the front and the full-automatic on the rear. The mounting set on the handguard allowed the FM 24/29 to be mounted on motorcycles and vehicles, alongside a leather carry strap and metal hook for hip-firing. The rate of fire on the FM 24/29 is 450 rounds per minute, but a 1925 French Army manual recommended troops to not go over 400 rounds of continuous firing, as the gun needs to wait for 10 to 15 minutes to cool down. Instead, the same manual recommended troops to fire 4 to 5 100-round magazines, then wait for a bit, then repeat. [1]

Character Background

A former ace used-car saleswoman with excellent social skills and sales records. FM24 has an extraordinary entrepreneurial spirit. However, after being scammed and dumped onto the streets, all she had left was her trademark and her heavy body- until she joined Griffin. Here, FM24 has found the confidence and business opportunity to make a comeback.
