Designed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch to be the standard service rifle of Austrian Army, the final product was given the name AUG (Armee-Universal-Gewehr—"universal army rifle"). Because the design finished in 1977, AUG entered service the following year under the designation StG77 (Sturmgewehr 77). AUG and developed variants have continued to serve Austrian military and law enforcement units til today. Apart from domestic use, AUG was also widely exported to many nations across the globe, including countries inside and outside of NATO. AUG took part in conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and has even been used in the ongoing Yemeni and Syrian civil wars.

Steyr wasn't the first to start a bullpup military service firearm project, as both the British and the Soviets have been developing bullpup firearms as early as post World War 2. In fact, AUG's own development project was on-going around the same time as the French FAMAS. AUG was, however, designed as a modular weapon system, meaning it could be converted with appropriate spare parts into different configurations, calibres, and roles. AUG was arguably one of the first modular service firearms in the world, the most manufactured variants of which are assault rifles of 5.56mm calibre.

AUG is a bullpup configured weapon system with a gas-operated short-stroke piston mechanism, firing from a closed rotary bolt. Chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO/.223 Remington calibre, AUG fires at 650 rounds per minute cyclic and is effective up to 300 metres of range with the integrated optic. Selective fire comes with the trigger. A short pull produces semi-automatic fire, and a full pull fires the weapon fully automatically. AUG uses a cross-bolt, button-type safety, located above the pistol grip, which mechanically locks the trigger when pressed. The pistol grip itself is covered by a large curved trigger guard so that the weapon can be used with thick gloves.

The AUG features a polymer weapon housing, and is fed with translucent polymer 30-round double-column magazines, however, some later produced stock pieces can refit the AUG to accept STANAG issue magazines. The AUG can also be configured for left- and right-hand firing by changing the exterior blanking plate component on the stock and the bolt assembly with one that has the extractor/ejector on the appropriate side. However, AUG is not fully ambidextrous due to the charging handle being fixed on left side only.

The second character illustrated by Samail, AUG appears to be a slim T-doll around 160cm tall. Just like the previous T-doll drawn by Samail {{doll name|Kar98k|RF|5}}, the gun itself looks slightly oversized when compared to the doll, but the scale ratio is a lot better, the proportion is relatively sound, and thus comparisons can be made using the weapon as a scale comparison.

AUG has long bleached blonde hair, tightened up to the side by a large flower ribbon. She can be identified by her beauty mark below her right eye and her golden-coloured pupils. Her outfit itself is dark themed, similar to some of the YoRHa issue android combat uniforms from NieR:Automata.

Samail left a passage of comment on the second volume of the official artbook of Girls Frontline, regarding the design inspirations behind AUG:<ref name="artbook">{{cite ab1|41-42}}</ref>
''Representing a gun with a girl feels unreal to me. On the one hand, you have a flower’s beauty and fragility, and on the other you have the resilience and cruelty of steel.''
''Some people say that guns and battles have no emotions, but if they really did have feelings of their own, they’d have to carry out their orders anyway. Perhaps that is their fate.''
''Yes, the AUG I drew was someone who shouldered such a fate; she might be a famous assault rifle, but we are the only ones who know her tenderness and her pain...''

She carries the AUG A1/Austrian Army StG77 20"/508mm barrel variant. (With a ludicrously long suppressor, which looks like a Fast-Attach based on Surefire's system.)

Weapon Background

Designed by Steyr-Daimler-Puch to be the standard service rifle of Austrian Army, the final product was given the name AUG (Armee-Universal-Gewehr—"universal army rifle"). Because the design finished in 1977, AUG entered service the following year under the designation StG77 (SturmGewehr 77). AUG and developed variants continues to serve Austrian military and law enforcement units today. Apart from domestic use, AUG is also widely exported to many nations across the globe, including countries inside and outside of NATO. AUG took part in conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and has even been used in the more recent Yemeni and Syrian civil wars.

AUG was arguably one of the first modular service firearms in the world, the most common variants of which are assault rifles of 5.56mm and SMG of 9mm Parabellum, with the assault rifle version being the most manufactured.

AUG is a bullpup configured weapon system with a gas-operated short-stroke piston mechanism, firing from a closed rotary bolt. Chambered for .223 Remington and later 5.56x45mm NATO, AUG fires at 650 rounds per minute cyclic and is effective up to 300 metres of range with the integrated optic.

The receiver of the weapon features a carrying handle with an integrated Swarovski 1.5× telescopic sight. Emergency iron sights can be found on top of the scope itself, and the entire assembly can be removed completely to fit a Picatinny rail for the compatibility with other optics. AUG also has an integrated forward-folding fore-grip attached on the barrel assembly, which can be removed and replaced with a 40mm under-barrel grenade launcher.

The barrel assembly of an AUG can be changed relatively quickly, with different barrel lengths featuring different style muzzle devices. Assault rifle variants usually feature three-pronged, open-type flash suppressors, which can also serve as a mount to launch 22mm rifle grenades. Different barrel lengths will affect AUG's performance in terms of effective range and accuracy. For example, SAW and DMR variants have better accuracy and higher muzzle velocities than the SMG/rifle variants. Other than the barrel, the bolt assembly can also be changed to fire from an open bolt, which helps prevent the SAW/SMG variants from ammunition cook off during long firing sessions.[1][2]

Character Design

The second character illustrated by Samail, AUG appears to be a slim doll around 160cm tall. Just like the previous T-Doll drawn by Samail RF Kar98kKar98kKar98k, the gun itself looks slightly oversized when compared to the doll, but the scale ratio is a lot better, the proportion is relatively sound, and thus comparisons can be made using the weapon as a scale comparison.

Samail left a passage of comment on the second volume of the official artbook of Girls Frontline, regarding the design inspirations behind AUG:[3]

Representing a gun with a girl feels unreal to me. On the one hand, you have a flower’s beauty and fragility, and on the other you have the resilience and cruelty of steel.

Some people say that guns and battles have no emotions, but if they really did have feelings of their own, they’d have to carry out their orders anyway. Perhaps that is their fate.

Yes, the AUG I drew was someone who shouldered such a fate; she might be a famous assault rifle, but we are the only ones who know her tenderness and her pain...

She carries the AUG A1/Austrian Army StG77 20"/508mm barrel variant. (With a ludicrously long suppressor, which looks like a Fast-Attach based on Surefire's system.)
