The F2000 is a compact modular weapon system developed by FN Herstal of Belgium. Utilizing the trigger group developed for the earlier P90 personal defense weapon, the F2000's development started in 1995, and would be completed six years later. The F2000 would enter into service with various military units, including Belgium's own special forces and the Slovenian Army. The F2000 has seen use in some modern conflicts, such as the war in Afghanistan, the Mexican Drug War, and the ongoing Yemeni Civil War.

The F2000 is a bullpup configured, selective-fire assault rifle designed to fire the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge, and feeds these rounds from NATO standard STANAG magazines. Using a gas-operated, rotating bolt and a short-stroke gas piston system, the F2000 is capable of firing accurately out to a range of 500 meters, with a rate of fire of 850 rounds per minute. Design features include a left-side charging handle and various Picatinny rails on the weapon body. After each shot, empty casings are ejected forward out the right side through a tube running above the barrel. This forward ejection system helps make the F2000 fully ambidextrous.

Other accessories include a specially-made 1.6x magnification telescopic sight, which can be removed to reveal the picatinny rail on top of the gun if the user wishes to mount other optics or just to use the iron sight. A custom-made, proprietary grenade launcher was built to fit the weapon system, since the F2000 isn't compatible with the other NATO 40mm grenade launchers. The barrel of the F2000 features a built in flash suppressor with a special angle cut, designed to direct the muzzle blast upwards to combat the weapon's vertical recoil. The same muzzle also sports a bayonet lug, allowing for the mounting of a bayonet if the user was issued with one.<ref name="F2000 wiki">[[wikipedia:FN F2000|Wikipedia entry on the F2000]]</ref>

Weapon Background[edit]

The same muzzle also sports a bayonet lug, allowing for the mounting of a bayonet if the user was issued with one.[1]
