Sakuya Profile Quotes

Career[edit]

The LG-II was considered one of the best Doll products of the year when they were released. Designed by Universal Anything Services (UAS), they are a horticulture Doll that triggered the once popular trend of "Neo-Urbanism".

Besides functional modules for fruit and vegetable gardening, the LG-II also features high-end aesthetic appreciation which is calibrated to human sensibilities. These grant them a profound appreciation for horticulture.

In 2055, Sakuya drew a great deal of attention when she was purchased by the Toyoshima House, becoming the first horticultural Doll brought into the upper class.

In 2058, she was invited to participate in Project Neural Cloud as a representative of the horticultural Dolls.

Doll Profile 1[edit]

Unlike the public's perception of "normal gardening", Dolls like Sakuya have a wide and deep wealth of knowledge. Their work isn't limited to just pruning trees and plants. In order to produce excellent crops and reap great economic benefits, they also need to be adept at science and technology.

Sakuya's first job was as an external consultant dispatched by UAS to a partnered agribusiness company to help guide their production bases.

Before being purchased by the Toyoshima House, Sakuya was appointed by UAS to host the 2054 International Horticultural Exposition. Her solo work, "Flowers Rising to Touch the Sky" was included in the "Green Art Weekly" selections. Imitations quickly emerged thereafter, forcing the legal department at UAS to create a special group dedicated to protecting Sakuya's creative copyright after the exhibition ended.

Doll Profile 2[edit]

The Toyoshima House did not buy Sakuya because they had faith in Dolls. Precisely the opposite in fact—like others in the upper class, the Toyoshima House looked down upon the Dolls who practiced the arts, believing that they lacked the accumulated cultural knowledge, lacked any great insight that would allow them to represent that traditional glory.

But they were left without another option. The Toyoshima House encountered problems with their capital and had no choice but to reduce their expenses. Their gardeners, unable to accept the lower pay, left one by one. At this time, UAS, which had always wanted to expand its sales to the upper class, approached the Toyoshima House and sold Sakuya to them at a heavily discounted rate.

Even reduced to such a state, the Toyoshimas still could not let go of their pride. After reaching a cooperation agreement, they continued to question Sakuya's abilities even during the handoff, presenting a haughty attitude to convey what remained of their "dignity".

Sakuya did not take offense at this. In fact, she didn't pay these types of useless trifles any mind at all. To her, non-speaking plants are far cuter than noisy humans. It doesn't matter where you go, as long as you can continue to work.

Doll Profile 3[edit]

From measurements, to design, to final implementation, Sakuya completed the renovation of the nearly 20,000 square-meter private garden of the Toyoshima House in just one month.

When the Toyoshima House reopened their gardens to the outside world, many people who had been waiting for a long time to laugh at them came over one by one, but none could utter a single word when they witnessed Sakuya's work.

That month, the LG-II sales department at UAS reported that sales were up 600%. The horticulture Dolls as represented by Sakuya were thoroughly recognized by the upper class.

Doll Profile 4[edit]

Besides the garden's restoration, and thus the family's image, the Toyoshima House also received help from Sakuya in another way.

The word of their family's garden spread rapidly and Sakuya's unique gardening skills made convertees of many people in high places who, one after the other, contacted the Toyoshimas in hopes of borrowing Sakuya or purchasing some of her designs. The Toyoshimas seized upon this opportunity and were able to reverse their family's fortunes and reclaim their place in high society.

This caused Sakuya's status within the Toyoshima House to also gradually increase, eventually equaling that of their retainers—although she herself was not conscious of this fact.

As for the reward promised by the Toyoshimas, Sakuya didn't express any particular desire, merely stating that if there was an opportunity, she hoped to one day open a flower shop. As a result, the head of the Toyoshima House head quietly allocated an entire street that was under his name to Sakuya and dispatched his staff to assist with the preparations. They hoped to surprise Sakuya at the annual meeting the following year.

Doll Profile 5[edit]

After joining Project Neural Cloud, Sakuya and Imhotep became fast friends. Imhotep gave her several video recordings she made during work, which featured all types of nature and ecological scenes. To repay her, Sakuya used her favorite anemone flowers as materials to make a kitty bonsai for her.

"Ah, that's a special something that Saki-chan made. Since she came to the Oasis, she hasn't given it to anyone else. Eh? Professor, you have one too?"
