Weapon Background
The Magnum Research Desert Eagle is a large frame semi-automatic handgun notable for chambering the .50 Action Express, the largest and most powerful centerfire cartridge made for magazine-fed, self-loading pistols. It is also available in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum, and can be swapped between calibers by simply changing out the barrel and magazine.
The Desert Eagle uses a gas-operated mechanism normally found in rifles, as opposed to the short recoil or blow-back designs most commonly seen in semi-automatic pistols. The advantage of using a gas-operation system is that it allows the use of far more powerful cartridges than traditional semi-automatic pistol designs, allowing the Desert Eagle to compete in an area that had previously been dominated by magnum revolvers. The gas system is the reason for the large size of the Desert Eagle, and it also discourages the use of unjacketed lead bullets, as lead particles sheared off during firing could clog the gas release tap, preventing proper function.[1]
The design for the Desert Eagle was initiated by Bernard C. White of Magnum Research and Arnolds Streinbergs of Riga Arms Institute, who filed a US patent application for a mechanism for a gas-actuated pistol in January 1983. This established the basic layout of the Desert Eagle. A second patent application was filed in December 1985, after the basic design had been refined by IMI Systems (Israel Military Industries) for production, and this is the form that went into production. The pistols were manufactured by Israel Military Industries until 1995, when MRI shifted the manufacturing contract to Saco Defense in Saco, Maine. In 1998, MRI moved manufacturing back to IMI, which later commercialized its small arms branch under the name Israel Weapon Industries. Since 2009, the Desert Eagle Pistol has been produced in the United States at MRI's Pillager, Minnesota facility. Kahr Arms acquired Magnum Research in 2010.[2]
Magnum Research has also marketed various versions of the short recoil Jericho 941 pistol under the Baby Eagle and Desert Eagle Pistol names; these weapons are not directly related to the Desert Eagle but do share a similar visual design.
Character Design
While the Desert Eagle is known for its firepower and appearance in Western media, her artist Anmi seems to have modeled her design after the appearance of a bald eagle. Her yellow eyes, white hair, black jacket, and shoes can be likened to analogous parts of an eagle, and she's even stepping on her own feet like a bird.

Trivia
- Desert Eagle refers to herself as an actress who takes part in plays. This is because the Deagle is commonly seen in action movies and videogames.
- The Desert Eagle's usage in real life as a sidearm or hunting weapon is almost non-existent, due to it larger and heavier than most handguns, plus its less than stellar reliability in field conditions.
- HG Grizzly MkVGrizzly MkVGrizzly MkV and Desert Eagle both use the .50 AE cartridge.
