Career

The UL-Toxic, developed by Ultilife, is a Doll engineered specifically for toxicology research and development. With an unspecified production date and a design that deviates significantly from other Ultilife products, it is presumed to be an experimental prototype. Due to the inherent risks associated with its research applications, every UL-Toxic unit undergoes a rigorous series of safety certifications to mitigate potential hazards, all of which are only available to institutions with specialized credentials. Prolonged exposure to fatal toxins mandates that the UL-Toxic undergoes a comprehensive detoxification process before any external contact is permitted, ensuring any plausible risk is fully contained.
The UL-Toxic model "Belladonna" formerly operated at Ultilife's Third Bio-Pharmaceutical Institute, but went missing after an incident. Years later, she was unexpectedly listed as a member of Project Neural Cloud.

Doll Profile 1

According to Ultilife's records, the first UL-Toxic unit was manufactured in 2054. At the time, Ultilife's Third Bio-Pharmaceutical Institute was conducting research on a particularly lethal Class 6 Toxic Substance, which necessitated a specialized Doll to assist the program director in processing toxic vegetation samples. However, the request was initially put on hold. It was not until the establishment of a project aimed at cultivating toxic vegetation on an isolated island—later codenamed "Cage"—that the UL-Toxic's development was resumed. The first UL-Toxic unit was ultimately integrated into the project under the supervision of Professor Frida F. Hohenheim.

Designed to efficiently examine sample data, the UL-Toxic is equipped with a comprehensive biological database. To accommodate the express need for patience and empathy when managing cultivated samples, Ultilife integrated a basic emotion module into the design. However, researchers discovered a critical flaw in this model: its emotion module frequently crashed during operation. This instability was traced to this model's neural processing—massive volumes of data overwhelmed the system, occupying computing resources meant for core functions, causing the emotion module to destabilize. Responding to widespread demands from customers, Ultilife honored warranty claims by removing the emotion module entirely. As a result, all UL-Toxic units manufactured after the first model housed at the Third Bio-Pharmaceutical Institute were stripped of most of their emotional capabilities, strictly becoming "research machines."

Doll Profile 2

Professor Frida named the first UL-Toxic model "Belladonna." In the early days, Belladonna remained by Professor Frida's side, being tasked with managing sample cultivation and collection. During this period, Professor Frida imparted all her knowledge to Belladonna. Researchers observed that Belladonna displayed an intense curiosity for human behavior. She frequently inquired about the intentions behind human actions, whilst mimicking their activities such as eating, resting, and recreation. She also displayed signs of anxiety when her needs were unsatisfied.

Other researchers frequently voiced concerns that the inclusion of the emotion module in Belladonna had overcomplicated her design and imposed unnecessary burdens on the research project. They formally requested that the module be removed, and the unit to be returned to the manufacturer for modification. However, Professor Frida firmly rejected their proposal, standing by the original design.
"She must see beyond the cold data, to find meaning and respect for life itself. Without this, she will become but a mere weapon—a tool that could destroy humanity."

As the project progressed, it became evident that the artificially cultivated toxin samples were insufficient in potency to meet the project's requirements. At the same time, the "Cage" project lacked a horticulturist to manage the island. Belladonna, specifically created for this project and possessing expertise in toxicology and cultivation, emerged as the ideal candidate to fill this role.

Initially, Belladonna's arrival on the island proceeded without issue. However, continuous experiments quickly pushed her neural cloud to its limits. On that island, isolated from human interaction and deprived of emotional support, her emotion module began to exhibit persistent errors. Despite these signs of instability, the researcher overseeing her at the time chose to ignore these problems entirely.

Following the incident at the island laboratory, Ultilife sought to avoid media scrutiny regarding the "Cage" project. To achieve this, the company severed all ties with Belladonna, leaving her stranded on the deserted island. Over time, the island's soil toxicity diminished as rainwater gradually washed away the contaminants. Once the public's attention regarding the incident had passed, Ultilife executives ordered for the data to be retrieved, dispatching a ship to recover Belladonna. They then dismantled her body, and uploaded her neural data to the Cloud.

Project Neural Cloud granted Belladonna a second life. She held no value but to store research data in the real world. The traumatic events of her past acted as the paint to her canvas; a fractured personality, defined by instability and madness. As a result, Belladonna struggles to trust others and harbors an intense resentment towards humanity.

Doll Profile 4

After entering the Cloud, Belladonna rarely interacted with other agents due to the inherent danger of the toxins she carried. Solitude had become second nature to her after years of isolation on the island. During her wandering, she encountered Sangoma, a herbalist. Their first meeting ended poorly when Belladonna added a massive quantity of aconite to Sangoma's medicinal cauldron, and then proceeded to be caught in the act. Viewing Belladonna as a potential public safety hazard in the Cloud, Sangoma decided to bring her back to Arcadia. However, this decision backfired when Belladonna made the discovery that the leader of the Guardians was human. She then began using the boss as a test subject for her toxins, with every incident she caused escalating further and further. However, her outrageous behavior didn't last, and she started to behave herself after the second week she joined Arcadia.

"Sangoma's the kind of person who'd really toss someone into her medicinal cauldron and boil them alive," Belladonna explained, wisps of steam curling off her as she revealed the reason for her sudden change in behavior.

Despite her confidence in her "strict education", Sangoma nevertheless spent a significant amount of time helping Belladonna integrate into the Guardians. Adopting a mixture of kindness and discipline, Sangoma eventually succeeded in encouraging Belladonna to open up, revealing a gentler side—but only in Sangoma's presence. During her time in Arcadia, Belladonna also formed her first friendship with Bonneville, a rider who shared her disdain for humanity. The two bonded over their mutual distrust and were often seen by Shale, huddled together in the cafeteria, discussing myths of humans conducting cruel experiments on aliens.

Doll Profile 5

With permission from the Guardians' higher-ups, Belladonna was granted the opportunity to undertake a mission at the Oasis. During her time there, when she wasn't accompanying Sangoma, she spent most of her time standing beside the Professor.

"Ohoho, surely you're not all falling for those humans' tricks, are you? They're so good at lying and pretending to be something they're not. Who knows, your seemingly sweet Professor might suddenly reveal a darker side, and then—oh, you poor Dolls at the Oasis wouldn't even have a chance to run, hehehe..." Such slander had come out of Belladonna's mouth as she stood behind the Professor during an interview.

Over time, Belladonna began to appreciate the unique nature of the Oasis. The community housed a diverse array of Dolls, many of whom shared her interests. One connection she forged was with Florence from the medical department; the two frequently partake in comprehensive discussions on topics such as "how to elegantly bind someone." Both Belladonna and Florence described these exchanges as having "yielded great results".

Whether in Arcadia or the Oasis, Belladonna's life has grown far more vibrant than before. Her eccentric personality is gradually shifting for the better, and Sangoma is highly pleased with her progress.
