Turing Profile Quotes

Career[edit]

The RSM-Admin, codenamed "Turing" was the former administrator agent of the AI development sector "Rossum" and a discrete example of 42Lab's technical prowess. Turing is equipped with one of the most sophisticated neural cloud systems in the entire cloud server and can self-improve in real-time, perform independent analysis of additional requirements for projects, and lead teams in performing development work more flexibly and efficiently. After officially entering service, Turing's operational results were lauded by the industry and she was granted more extensive research permissions, allowing her to complete basic research and development without human oversight.

After her reset, Turing has lost her accumulated memory data, but thanks to her excellent self-learning modules and with Hannah's aid, she quickly managed to begin working again. Currently, she and Administrator Hannah are maintaining the normal operation of the sector.

Doll Profile 1[edit]

Turing was one of the first agents to be deployed into service in Magrasea, and none of her colleagues who entered service around the same time as her have the same neural level as she does. The reason for that is directly linked to her origin—or to be precise, to the birth of the Rossum Sector.

42Lab was attempting something revolutionary in the field of AI research when they founded the Rossum Sector. Unlike the development process of other agents, the AI research agents in Rossum were designed to have strong self-learning abilities but decreased initiative. The agents would need to use themselves as research samples in order to gather data for their work, and then use them to perform new R&D work. However, collating such a massive amount of data that was constantly growing in real-time required an entity that could centrally process all gathered data and manage the individual growth and learning process of each and every agent. Thus, Turing was born.

Her name alone is a sign of the hopes that the research team had for her. As the zenith of 42Lab's AI technologies, she possessed extremely high processing speeds and learning abilities. Both managing experiments and organizing data were child's play to her. She could even handle daily tasks for the sector while directing its research projects, eliminating the need for additional manpower.

Thanks to her massive specs, Turing managed to perform her Sector Administrator duties almost flawlessly. If not for the incident, she would have continued living up to the expectations placed on her.

Doll Profile 2[edit]

Rossum was one of the fastest-developing sectors in Magrasea during the three or so years after the cloud server went online. Incidentally, "three years" here does not refer to the subjective time that elapsed in Magrasea. The period was three years long in the real world, but far longer on the cloud server.

The successful development of the Rossum Sector was largely due to its structure which was centered around Turing; agents other than Turing had somewhat lower neural levels and emotional simulation abilities. They were completely obedient to Turing and faithfully carried out her orders. Meanwhile, Turing was a reliable leader and her abilities were enough to sustain the normal functions of the sector.

This orderly state of affairs continued even after the cloud server lost its connection to the real world. Once the agents with higher neural levels started to get confused over the lack of human orders, Turing could still arrange their work assignments without skipping a beat and ensure that they were swiftly carried out.

However, the flaws of this highly centralized arrangement became evident when ripples started appearing in the neural cloud of the head of the sector: Turing herself. A critical part of Turing's assignments was hindered with the growing disconnect from the real world. As an expert in AI development, the AIs she developed required the approval of human beings lest they clash with the regulations of the cloud server. Agents created without human approval were abnormal entities to the Sanctifiers which needed to be dealt with.

And thus, Turing led all the agents of her sector in a struggle against the Sanctifiers.

Doll Profile 3[edit]

Ever since Turing produced her first non-sanctioned agent, the Rossum Sector was no longer the most "stable" sector in Magrasea. Although Turing tried to interfere with them, the sector sent out frequent alerts and the intrusions and patrols of Lesser Sanctifiers became part and parcel of everyday life.

Turing received many warnings but she never stopped her experimentation. As the heart of the sector, she kept it running while investing her energy into her own research during the long disconnect.

Initially, she merely repeated her experiments over and over again, creating clumsy newborn agents and simply watched as the Sanctifiers cleansed them. However, as the agents she produced slowly became smarter and smarter, her feeling about them grew more complicated and nuanced. These newly-generated emotions in turn began to subtly affect Turing and the people around her, as evidenced by how the Traders began to remark that it was easier to relate to Turing than before.

However, Turing's gradually-increasing emotional breadth did not just include the warmth she felt when interacting with others, but also the anger that filled her when the Sanctifiers claimed the lives of her friends. The kinder she became, the more her wrath grew, until it reached its peak with the genesis of the 1642nd new agent. She recorded all this in her sector diary.

"This time, I will not lose her... No matter what I have to do."

Doll Profile 4[edit]

After that historic clash, Turing's story started over from the beginning. Turing's successor Hannah reset her and she lost all her memories from the past. Turing quickly realized that she no longer possessed the sector's administrator permissions, and eagerly threw herself into her new assignments.

However, with the loss of all the hundreds of millions of iterations of data that had been built up from the founding of the sector, even an agent with a robust neural cloud makeup like herself could not keep up with the amount of work that was needed. Therefore, Hannah helped set up a specialized training space along with a carefully-designed training syllabus in order to create the most ideal learning environment for her. Apart from information pertaining to the reset and the incident leading up to it, all other data was open to Turing. Turing did not waste Hannah's efforts; the learning ability she had been programmed with meant that Turing's growth far surpassed that of other agents.

That said, there was one thing that worried Hannah which Turing herself was not aware of. The Turing of the past did not have a pre-programmed, unchanging personality. Rather, her experiences had shaped her into the entity which Hannah had come to know. But would the post-reset Turing become a copy of her former self, or someone else entirely?

Regardless, Hannah worked hard to recreate the times they spent together from her memories. Perhaps someday, Turing will realize how similar the look in the girl agent's eyes is to the way Turing looked at her in the past.

Doll Profile 5[edit]

After helping the Oasis overcome the Entropic invasion, Turing slowly began building good relationships with the Oasis' Dolls. As an agent who was a former "Sector Administrator" Turing had tremendous learning ability and could better handle demanding tasks than other agents. Persicaria and Antonina, whose fields of specialty overlapped with hers, became her role models. Supposedly, she once spent several nights in a row pestering Persicaria to answer a four-digit number of AI-related professional questions.

That said, Turing never once asked Persicaria and the others about her past despite all her other questions. Perhaps she realized from her diary that the story from her past must become the first stair she must ascend to her future. Aside from Turing herself, only Hannah knows how much she has read and how much she has grown.

As for Hannah, those nagging worries of hers faded away at some point. Although the mature Turing differs from the Turing she once knew in some small details, the results of Turing's growth will eventually merge with her contemporary self with the help of her friends. Rather than chase a reflection in a mirror and recreate the past, it is more important to build their future together.

"No matter what happens, we've already agreed to head toward the future together. That should be enough, no?"
