Weapon Background
The Mk 153 SMAW is a multi-role recoilless rocket launcher primarily for use against enemy fortifications, but can also be used as an anti-armor weapon. Development of the SMAW began from the IMI B-300 in the 1980's and was officially adopted in 1984. The design has seen many changes over the years, including the improved SMAW II "Serpent" and separate FGM-172 SRAW.
