Octogen Profile Quotes

Career[edit]

DMLTs are Dolls developed by Svarog Heavy Industries that specialize in demolition. Their bodies employ new standards and feature high seismic and explosion resistance. These Dolls see extensive use in large-scale projects such as transportation infrastructure construction, mining, and building demolition.

As the first trial product in Svarog Heavy Industries' special modifications project, Octogen is the first DMLT Doll not built to the engineering standards. Under the pretense of being an engineering product, many aspects of his software and hardware design circumvent the data restrictions on military hardware put in place by several production agreements.

Svarog Heavy Industries originally collected data on Octogen as he worked at a partner company, Billton, finally completing their analysis after two years. Next, they urgently needed a clandestine environment to test Octogen's military functions in actual combat away from the prying eyes of international organizations. Only in Magrasea, can Svarog Heavy Industries simulate sensitive structures as attack targets without risking any public outcry.

Doll Profile 1[edit]

"Unruly, uncontrollable, destructive, crazy"—just one look at the messily written, yet still piercing, evaluation, and you can clearly feel how much Octogen's previous handler loathed him.

In high-risk work such as controlled blasting, from the initial planning, to field measurements, to the final execution, the entire process must be strictly controlled. Safety and security are paramount. Yet, Octogen somehow always provided the company with fresh new ideas that came completely out of left field; these demolition plans were typically reckless to the point of insanity but also had advantages that senior management found difficult to refuse—

"It's awful, insane! Every day after he came around, I feel like I'm sleeping on a powder keg!"
"Then why don't you reject his plans?"
"... The amount he saves is just... astronomically high."
—Billton Annual Management Meeting Minutes

Doll Profile 2[edit]

Perhaps it's an effect of his work or perhaps it originates from his Neural Cloud source code, but, in both life and work, the impression that Octogen leaves people with is that he is fiery and crude.

If not for Persicaria and Chelsea watching over him, Octogen might even have stuffed his dorm with detonators and explosives.

Even his daily entertainment is accompanied by the pervasive smell of gunpowder. The battlefield simulation system provided by the Logistics Department for Doll training is Octogen's favored form of recreation and he logs in as soon as he gets off work. Since his arrival at the Oasis to the time of this writing, he hasn't deviated from this for a single day.

Doll Profile 3[edit]

Although Octogen causes many headaches, his demolitions expertise is beyond reproach.

By the time Project Neural Cloud launched, the sole world record set by Billton in demolition was a project led by Octogen.

The property was owned by Cyber Media. "Chainball Plaza Tower" was a 330-meter-tall, 288 floored, multi-functional building with 4 towers. It was demolished on February 28, 2056 with the entire process taking a mere 13 seconds, setting the record for tallest building demolished in the shortest amount of time.

Doll Profile 4[edit]

Once, Octogen was brought to court as a defendant.

On August 1st, 2056, the Military Doll Rights Organization convened a special tribunal and brought 12 criminal charges against Svarog Heavy Industries and Octogen, including fuzzy standards for installed functional modules and improper Doll classification. The case had not concluded by the time that Project Neural Cloud opened and Svarog applied for a special provision for Dolls awaiting trial to save Octogen from imprisonment. This incident also pushed the company into hastening Octogen's move into Project Neural Cloud.

"Welcome to the Oasis."
"... It's you."
"You didn't want to see me?"
"Not that... just that if it's you, I don't feel like making a grand entrance."
"Grand? You mean like using explosions to scare people again, don't you?"
"That kind of things can't scare you. At best it scares the little ferret."
"Relax, Octogen. This is the Oasis. The person in charge is the Professor."
"...They're all the same. Everyone has the same opinion of people like me."
"The Professor is different."
"...What?"
"The Professor is different. You can be at ease here, trust me."
—Oasis Entrance Security System Recording

Doll Profile 5[edit]

Unlike most of the Dolls trapped within the cloud, Octogen actually likes being in Magrasea. Compared to the real world, he has ample opportunity to revel in the explosive work he loves so much. At the same time, he can contact the military projects and Dolls that previously he would have avoided for fear of arousing suspicion. For Octogen, nothing is more wonderful than this—except for the 8 chapters and 71 articles worth of the Oasis security regulations that refer to him by name.

"Come now, I'm not all that dangerous. Professor, why don't you talk to Chelsea and get her to stop watching me?"
—Doll Discussion Recording
