Weapon Background

Success of Bizon lead Izhmash into developing a successor project, the Vityaz-SN is further developed SMG unit based on the AK-74 and PP-19, general modernization work was done, such as improved modularity and compatibility with combat accessories. Design phase finished in 2004, entered production and service in 2008, replacing the Bizon the Vityaz-SN is currently the standard issue SMG for all branches of Russian Military and policing units.

Vityaz-SN is a selective fire, simple closed bolt and straight blowback operated SMG. Designed to chamber 9mm calibre cartridge such as Parabellum and/or the high-pressure armor-piercing 7N31 round, Vityaz feeds on a 30-round curved box magazine, can reach a fully automatic cyclic rate of fire of 750 rounds per minute, able to cover an effective firing range of 200 metres.

Some feature remained the same as the Bizon, such as the left side folding AKS-74 style folding shoulder stock and the same trigger/safety mechanism. By default Vityaz features two types of rail system for mounting various optics, Picatinny rail on top of the receiver or a dove-tail side rail, a set of Zenit-made rails can also be fitted to further increase the amount of Picatinny rails available on the weapon. Vityaz featured a redesigned muzzle break that can protect the muzzle from damage and decrease muzzle rise, it can also attach sound suppressors if they are issued to the users.
