Lenna Story Profile Quotes

"I can't sleep yet, I still have work to do..."

This article still needs to be completed with this content: Write memories recap.

Record 1

Original codename: UMP9. Founding member of H.I.D.E. 404. As a way to enhance performance, she assisted Persica in the completion of the "Remolding Pattern" technology by volunteering as a subject for the experiment, thereby narrowing the power gap between herself and more advanced third-generation Dolls. After Kalina took office at the Non-Military Forces Administration (NOMFA), UMP9—together with her sister UMP45—accepted Kalina's invitation to work as her assistants. During this period, she began using her previous name "Lenna" as her public identity.

Confronted with the drastic shift in role and the challenges of adapting to a new environment, Lenna's lively, cheerful, and approachable personality ultimately enabled her to overcome the initial setbacks and allowed her to embrace her new duties, taking charge of much of Kalina's external communications. Though she still reminisces about the days of operating alongside her 404 squadmates, Lenna has gradually accepted the reality that everyone has their duty to fulfill. Yet, she still holds onto the belief that she remains part of the 404 family deep in her heart.

Compared to her past self, Lenna has noticeably grown more mature and professional at work all the while still sporting her trademark uplifting smile. Yet in the brief moments when her guard is down, or when her closest family is present, glimpses of her innocent side slip through the cracks. She simply can't hide her silly, satisfied grin when receiving praise from her sister, Leva.

"Hmm? What was that? Leva, I think my signal is cutting out~"

"Please~ Say it again, just once more! The last one didn't count. Hehe♪"

Record 2

Gentle sunlight streamed through the glass of Kalina's office, pouring down on the two potted plants by the window.

One of the plants was drooping while the other... was also drooping.

Lenna set down the watering can, crouched beside the drooping branches, and poked at them with her finger.

Snap.

A brittle twig broke off and fell to the floor.

"Ugh... Why's this happening?"

"I'm measuring the amount of water down to the milliliter. The temperature, humidity, and soil acidity—they all perfectly match the guide. Why are you two still withering?"

She stared at the "Easy Care Instruction" sticker on the pot, and double-checked its content over and over again.

Geraniums, she'd got them from Persica just last month. Their listed features included: blooms all year round, relieves human fatigue, and—"easy to care for".

Looking back at the drooping branches, that comment left by the engineer might as well have been a silent mockery.

With a helpless and wronged look, Lenna poked at the frail branches once again.

"You two... If there's something wrong, you can just tell me, you know..."

Naturally, no plant could possibly answer her.

After a moment, Lenna stood up, gathered herself, and clenched her fists in resolve.

"Guess there's no helping it... I'll just get new ones! At least these ones lasted one week longer, that's progress."

"I'm sure I'll get it right next time! Hehe♪"

Record 3

As the assistant to Senior Counselor Kalina, one of Lenna's primary duties is... answering questions and easing concerns. "Hmm. Hello, Mr. Counselor. You're calling about the result of the previous PMC qualification exams, correct? Oh... you already talked with Miss Kalina before? Please hold a moment while I confirm that for you♪"

Talking through the comms line dedicated to external contact, Lenna's tone remained warm and quippy.

After putting the caller on hold, she gazed at Kalina. Standing by the window with a thermal cup in hand, Kalina shook her head with a subtle, snarky look. Lenna responded with a bright smile and an "OK" gesture before turning back to the call.

"Thanks for your patience, Mr. Counselor. I've checked with Miss Kalina, and the decision remains—"

A series of shouts and curses came through the communicator, yet Lenna's expression did not change in the slightest. "Haha♪ That's a good joke—but there's no way we'd deliberately make things more difficult for you."

"Yes, yes~ I understand."

She nodded as she spoke, even though there was no way for the caller to see the expression she was making.

"The PMC you mentioned is certainly capable, but the NOMFA needs to consider matters from multiple aspects."

"As Miss Kalina pointed out earlier, this PMC has not met the minimum registration time required for application, and some of their equipment has unidentified origins. So, unfortunately..."

"Yes, you are right, but it would be a big problem if this causes damage to the reputation of the NOMFA♪ And, as you may know, we must ensure the authority of the URNC government."

"Mm-hmm, I'm glad you understand. A friendly reminder, failing this examination won't affect future applications, I promise♪"

Throughout the exchange, Lenna's voice remained steady and cheerful.

Kalina quietly watched as Lenna hung up the call and started humming a little tune as she proceeded to organize the meeting reports, and—within three seconds of the next call ringing up—briskly picked up the communicator again.

"Hello, this is the office of the Senior Counselor of the Non-Military Forces Administration. How may I help you?♪"

Indeed, only Lenna could handle this job.

Hearing Lenna's calm and friendly tone, Kalina let out a reassuring smile and returned to her own work.

Record 4

"Hm-hm♪ Action logs... action logs..."

Late at night, after finishing a full day's work, Lenna lay cheerfully on the sofa, scrolling through the action logs on her personal device. Watching recordings of past missions gave her the chance to admire her family's impressive performances—a little hobby she had picked up during her off-times.

"Uwah♪ Lucky me~ There's a new one uploaded by Leva today! Maybe I'll get to see her in it!"

"Oh~ It's that mission where she accompanied Miss Kalina to the banquet... I remember Leva brought it up before..."

Murmuring excitedly, Lenna quickly clicked into the file, her eyes brimming with anticipation. One by one, high-definition footage of Leva was loaded onto the screen. Lenna sat up straight, her eyes gleaming.

"She's wearing an evening gown! So... so beautiful♪"

"...Even her uncomfortable expression is so adorable!"

After admiring Leva's outfit from every possible angle, Lenna suddenly jumped up.

"I bet I can make that exact outfit out of a bed sheet. Let me try it now♪"

She dashed over to the workbench and immediately began sketching and cutting patterns.

By sunrise, Lenna was twirling around in the dawn light in her improvised bed sheet gown.

"Family members should wear matching clothes, right? Ehe♪ I wonder if I look more like Leva now."

Click. The apartment door unlocked.

Leva stepped inside and immediately locked eyes with Lenna, who had stayed up all night without rest.

Leva had already grown used to her sister imitating her wardrobe, so the sight didn't surprise her too much.

Only... under the makeshift gown, certain contours of Lenna's body were far more pronounced than usual.

"Uwaah♪ Leva! Why are you back so suddenly? I missed you so much!"

Lenna's eyes widened in delight as she leapt toward Leva.

Leva lowered her head, her gaze—unobstructed by her chest—landed directly on her feet.

As she raised her head again, her eyes inevitably lingered on Lenna's body.

"Yeah, I'm back. Missed you too. Also... are you really copying the gown I wore at the banquet seven hours ago?"

"Stop. Copying. What. I. Am. Wearing."

With a calm, restrained smile, Leva rolled up her sleeves.

Record 5

This record was captured during a certain New Year's Eve. Persica later stumbled upon it during routine maintenance, hidden within Lenna's neural records.

"Lenna, Kalina and I are heading out now. The office will be in your care. If anything urgent comes up, contact us right away..."

Leva paused mid-instruction and chuckled.

"Not that it really matters. Things only go one of two ways on New Year's Eve—perfectly peaceful, or earth-shakingly devastating."

"If it's the latter, we'll be notified immediately anyway... but I reckon it'll be a quiet night."

Lenna nodded with a bright smile.

"Don't worry, Leva, I'll be fine♪ Not like it's my first time pulling a night shift alone."

Leva reached out and patted her head.

"Mhm. One last thing—"

"Although it's a little early, but... Happy New Year."

With that blessing, Leva waved her goodbye and stepped out of the office.

The door shut automatically behind her, and from the other side came Kalina's teasing voice.

"Finally done with the farewell? We're just heading out for a few hours..."

Leva's response, along with their footsteps, gradually faded into the distance.

Lenna's smile softened. She glanced around the now-empty office. Somehow, the place felt even colder with everyone else gone.

Kalina and Leva were attending a government event; Klukai and Mechty were out on a mission.

That left herself in the office, all alone.

Coming out of her momentary trance, Lenna gently clapped her face before her mood could sink further.

Hadn't she already come to terms with this...? There were things she could do all by herself—things that would help everyone out.

What should it be, then? On a New Year's Eve, all by herself... It's the perfect time for a deep clean-up♪

She would tidy all the nooks and crannies the janitors usually missed! Then, when Leva and others came back, they'd be greeted with a spotless, brand-new-looking office.

Alright! Time to work!

Time slipped by unnoticed. As midnight struck, fireworks started blooming in the sky, and the office tower where Lenna was had to be the perfect viewing spot.

Red, green—and every color in between—all bloomed and painted a dazzling radiance in her eyes.

"Happy New Year, Big Sis Leva!"

"Happy New Year, Miss Kalina!"

"Happy New Year, Klukai!"

"..."

"Happy New Year! Happy New Year! Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year... Commander..."

It's okay—even if she shouted at the top of her lungs, no one would stop her, because no one was around to hear her.

On that night, Lenna let out all the pent-up longing she had been burying in her heart.

Record 6

It was the third day of our rest in the city. I stood at the edge of a public square, unable to refrain myself from checking the letter in my hand over and over again.

It was an invitation from Lenna. In it she wrote that she wanted to give me a "surprise" here.

From where I stood, the entire square was in full view. And yet, I couldn't seem to spot Lenna anywhere.

Just as I began to suspect this might be some sort of prank, a fluffy bear cub suddenly came bouncing toward me from the center of the square—a bear suit as tall as a person, usually worn by a human or a Doll.

Wait... could that be Lenna?

Before I could sort through my thoughts, the bear had already hopped right up to me, clutching a cluster of balloons in its hand.

I noticed that the balloons were printed with the NOMFA insignia, which all but confirmed the bear's identity.

The bear clapped its stubby paws and bounced around me in a circle.

The bear waved its paws to draw my attention, then stuffed a balloon into my hand.

The bear pressed its oversized fuzzy head against my chest and snuggled up against me.

I couldn't help but laugh at the mascot's jests.

"Eheheh♪ You've finally laughed, Commander!"

Lenna's voice came through the bear, slightly muffled by the thick suit.

"Hehe♪ That was part of the Administration's regular public outreach program, and it's only just ended."

"Ah, I should probably take the headpiece off before we continue."

Without further ado, she removed the suit's headpiece, revealing her own head, also wearing a pair of bear ears.

"Ta-da♪ Surprise! Ehehe, a bear inside a bear!"

"Seems like there's something weighing on your mind lately, Commander. I don't really understand, but... I'm sure it must be something important, right?"

"Though, I do know this—you haven't laughed in... forty-seven—no, fifty-two hours."

"Commander♪ Come on, give me a smile♪ Just like this..."

The bear—No, Lenna—cupped my face with her round paws, trying to lift the corners of my lips into a grin.

"Hehe♪ I know this city like the back of my hand, Commander."

"Sweet afternoon tea, park in full bloom, and breathtaking night view—all waiting for us..."

"How about we embark on a little stroll together, Commander?"

Record 7

One day, I was sleeping in my room as usual, when I suddenly woke up from a dream.

In the darkness, I could feel something's off. Maybe it was the breeze brushing by my ears out of the blue, or perhaps the faint, unfamiliar scent at the tip of my nose, or perhaps just an illusion born from me being on the edge all the time—I even thought I heard some faint rustling sounds.

I sat up and turned on the light.

As I pressed on the switch, I was sure I had also caught the sound of a small gasp, like someone sharply drawing in a breath.

The ceiling light flooded the room. In the bright, gentle glow, nothing could remain hidden.

The chairs and desk sat quietly in their usual places—nothing out of the ordinary, as if all the feelings that irked me so had been just in my head.

I looked around again, only to notice in the corner of my room stood... a new potted plant?

The plant was in full bloom, with clusters of tiny, pink flowers blushing delicately. The unfamiliar scent clearly had come from them.

Puzzled, I thought to myself: only a few could enter my room without permission...

"Uhh... Who's there?"

Of course, the room remained silent, and I was left with no reply.

But just as I lowered my head without much further pondering, I caught sight of something: at the edge of the bed's shadow, a strand of brown hair was slowly retreating underneath my bed.

I chuckled quietly, then deliberately started praising the potted plant in the corner.

"I wonder who left this here? Hmm, it looks very pleasing, and the fragrance is very delightful. I wonder for how long it'll bloom?"

"...For a long time! If it's cared for properly, geraniums can bloom for months♪"

Sure enough, Lenna's voice came from underneath my bed.

I smiled, "Lenna, come out from under my bed. I've already found you."

"Ah—I got spotted♪" she replied cheekily, and soon after, emerged at my bedside, patting dust off her clothes.

"This is a geranium. They say it helps ease fatigue. Ever since I saw this plant for the first time, I wanted to plant one myself and give it to you, Commander. Hehe♪"

"It's a delicate little plant, though! I've tried so many times before, but they would never grow well."

"Yet, after you came back, they suddenly started to flourish—I have no idea why."

"Maybe... your presence lets even my plants feel at ease♪"

Record 8

During a certain commission, after the handover was complete, Lenna escorted me back from the city to the Elmo.

The day had already grown late. Outside the jeep, a sudden gale not predicted by the weather report rose. In the howling wind, the vehicle suddenly jolted violently, warning lights flashing across the dashboard.

Along with the alerts, the heater had also shut down automatically, and the temperature inside the cabin quickly began to drop.

"Ah... Commander, I think the jeep just broke down..."

From the driver's seat, Lenna checked the warning lights, then glanced at me with unease.

I nodded, reaching for the door. "Yeah, I'll go take a look."

Lenna leaned over and held onto my hand.

"Commander, let me go instead. Look how windy it's out there... It must be really cold."

I shook my head in disagreement, "If there's something that needs fixing, it'll be faster if I do it myself."

Lenna gazed at me, eyes widened and worried. Faced with that look, I instinctively reached out and patted her head.

"I'll be back in no time."

The repair took a bit longer than I expected. It was only when I finally returned to the jeep and felt the lingering warmth inside the cabin that I realized my entire body had gone completely numb due to the temperature outside.

Lenna stared at me with a focused intensity, as if afraid I might suddenly collapse or vanish.

The door closed, shutting the roaring wind outside.

"As expected of you, Commander♪ The jeep's started up again!"

She threw herself into my arms. Even the warmth of synthetic skin felt like the scorching sun to me.

"Commander... You're finally back..."

"You're so cold... I raised my frame temperature a little. Now my body should feel a little warmer to you♪."

Burying her face against my neck, her soft voice lingered in my ear.

"Until you're all warmed-up, use me like a hand-warmer... and hold onto me a little longer..."

Memories

Chairman's Vassal 1

(Late at night after working overtime, with sleep still eluding me, I find myself wandering into the lounge.)
(With only dim lights illuminating the hallway, faint noises drift out of Lenna’s dorm room into the otherwise complete silence.)
Lenna
Hey-hey♪ Can you hear me? Siimulator No. 996?
Lenna
…Weird. Lost connection already?
(I knock on Lenna’s door.
Commander
Lenna?
Lenna
Yay! It’s back online♪ Let’s try again!
(Lenna’s muttering can be heard from inside the room, she is completely oblivious to the knocking.)
(I then push open the door myself.)
Lenna
…Good job, Simulator No. 996! Now it’s your turn to transmit the data back. You’ve got to succeed♪
(With her VR helmet on, Lenna is fully immersed in her world. A pile of design blueprints is scattered on the table right beside her.)
Lenna
Uh-oh! I don’t think I’m actually syncing—I’m just taking over No. 996’s control.
Lenna
Oh no! W-what are these error messages and crash logs… I-I can’t turn it off? W-what should I do…
(For some reason, Lenna starts flailing around frantically.)
(Bonk. Her wrist hits the corner of the table, and she gasps instinctively.)
(I step in and help Lenna remove the helmet.)
Lenna
Whew! I’m saved! Thank you so much…
Lenna
C-Commander♪
(Perhaps because I just helped her escape some sort of impending disaster, Lenna’s eyes sparkle as she excitedly holds my hands.)
(With her small hands and chilling fingertips, I can almost feel the faint warmth of her palms even through the gloves.)
Lenna
Commander♪ Thank goodness you showed up!
Lenna
I thought for sure I was done for and that it would be days before anyone came to my rescue…
Commander
Really? Don’y Kalina and Leva usually check in with you every day?
Lenna
Well, they’re both busy with their own work. Plus, I’m on vacation now!
Lenna
Right! I haven’t welcomed you yet. Please, have a seat, Commander. Is there a reason you came here so late at night?
(Lenna pulls me toward the only chair in the room, then jumps onto the bed herself and sits on its edge.)
Lenna
Let me guess♪ Is it to ask me out? If it’s with you, Commander, I’ve got all the time in the world!
Commander
Umm. I just happened to notice the commotion in your room while passing by since I couldn’t sleep.
Commander
And you? Why aren’t YOU in hibernation at this hour?
Lenna
Hehe. I need to spend my precious vacation time on… Well, that’s Lenna’s secret♪
(Lenna quickly covers her mouth and shakes her head, making sure she doesn’t accidentally blurt out her little secret.)
Commander
I see. But even so, don’t forget to hibernate and perform your maintenance checks regularly.
Lenna
Yes, yes♪ I will, Commander! So don’t worry about it!
(Lenna nods energetically and lowers her hands. She then pauses for a moment, looking quite conflicted.)
Lenna
…Well, I guess it can’t hurt to tell you; you’re the Commander after all. And the simulation test has failed yet again…
(Seeing Lenna’s troubled expression, I let out a sigh.)
Commander
Feel free to tell me about your secret plan if you need any help, Lenna. I promise I’ll keep it just between us.
Commander
I can’t sleep anyway, so there’s plenty of time to figure out what’s wrong together.
Lenna
Uhh…
(Lenna wrestles with herself for a moment, then clenches her fists in determination.)
Lenna
The truth is, I’m trying to develop a special signal plugin during this vacation, Commander.
Lenna
It’s something I’ve been drawing up for a long time…
Commander
Special signal plugin?
Lenna
Yep! An all-weather, unrestricted, long-distance communication plugin that will let me stay in touch with my family.
(Lenna seems to have mustered all her courage to squeeze these words out. After finishing, she closes her eyes, not daring to see my reaction.)
Commander
…Huh?
Lenna
…Ehh? You’re not going to dismiss it? Or make fun of me?
Lenna
I pitched this idea to Persica and Dier before, only to be made fun of for my naivety! They were so inconsiderate! That’s why I didn’t want to share it anymore.
Lenna
The fact that you didn’t dismiss my idea outright is almost making me tear up, Commander.
Commander
Pfffft. I can see where Persica and Dier are coming from. Honestly, you shouldn’t get your hopes up, because as far as my understanding of modern technology goes, no one has been able to invent such a thing yet.
Lenna
Yeah, yeah! I know how challenging it’s going to be, but I really, really need it!
Commander
May I ask why you’re so insistent? What do you hope to accomplish with such a plugin?
Lenna
Hehe♪ Well…
Lenna
Part of the reason is that, since everyone in 404 now has their own duties and responsibilities unlike before, it’s not always possible to get in touch when I miss them.
Lenna
That includes you, Commander… Even when you’re on my mind constantly, there’s nothing I can do to convey my longing.
Lenna
After experiencing all that, it’s only natural for me to want the family to be more tightly knit, right? Don’t you think so, Commander?
(Lenna’s tone gradually grows gloomier, and she wraps up her sentence by throwing me a wistful gaze.)
(Despite her not placing any blame, I can’t shake this strange sense of guilt.)
Commander
Well, we’ll be seeing each other a lot in the future, so let the past stay in the past.
Lenna
Don’t you think you should give the lonely and desolate Lenna some consolation at a time like this, Commander?
(I hesitantly reach out and pat Lenna’s shoulder heavily.)
Lenna
Is this enough?
Lenna
Commander♪ My neural records tell me that, even ignoring the seconds-long recalls, I’ve been missing you for a solid few thousand hours!
(I ponder for a moment, open my arms, and give Lenna a hug.)
(Lenna snuggles up against me, then suddenly looks up with a smile, showing no trace of her earlier gloom.)
Lenna
Yay♪ Now I’m satisfied!
Lenna
Hehe, Commander. What I just said was all made up… Actually, that melancholic look specifically was just an act.
Lenna
It’s not every day that you come to see me, Commander, and I just wanted to take the opportunity to get closer to you.
Commander
…I’m glad you’re okay.
Lenna
Ahem, let’s get back to where I left off.
Lenna
My past self feared and dreaded changes and separations within the family. I was afraid that everyone would slowly drift apart, leaving me behind, and that eventually, I would have no home to return to…
Commander
So, DID they leave you behind?
(I ask, though we both already know the answer.)
Lenna
Hehe, of course not! Just look at me now—Miss Kalin’s capable and helpful assistant.
Lenna
Looking back, I was indeed being paranoid. The 404 family didn’t drift apart just because we were physically separated. And you were not trying to distance yourself from me either, Commander!
Commander
You’ve indeed matured and become more independent.
Lenna
Gosh! Of course I had to grow up; otherwise I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the family. But that’s not what I want to get across.
Lenna
What I’m trying to say is… even though times change, some feelings remain the same.
Lenna
Say, hmm… you, Commander!
Commander
Me?
Lenna
Although I can now rationalize that the “temporary separation” was the right decision, back then, I simply couldn’t control my longing when I had the excess computing power to overthink it…
Lenna
I couldn’t help but wonder if things were going well for you and if your journey was safe. When I encountered something interesting at work, I’d think, “The Commander would definitely be interested,” immediately followed by, “I can’t wait to share this with the Commander!”
Lenna
Only if I could invent some sort of real-time synchronization plugin, then I’d be able to “solve” my longing by transcending the barrier of the physical world.
Commander
An unexpected reason, but it does sound like something you’d come up with.
Lenna
Ehe♪ If I can get it working, I’ll be able to better understand your needs and help out more promptly. Miss Kalin, Leva, and everyone at 404 too♪ If only we could all be connected.
Commander
It’s indeed an interesting idea, but I’ve got to say… based on what I know of Leva, hmm…
Lenna
Yes? What’s up with Leva?
Commander
Are you sure you don’t want to get her opinion before you continue with the development?
Commander
I reckon it would be quite challenging to get Leva to sign up for a real-time synchronization plugin.
Lenna
Oh! …That’s true!
(Lenna pauses, seemingly lost in her inner turmoil as her facial expression shifts rapidly.)
Lenna
You’re right. Convincing Leva will certainly be just as challenging, if not more so, than creating the plugin in the first place! Ugh!
(Lenna clutches her head.)
(I take the opportunity to hand the blanket beside me to Lenna.)
Commander
All right, it’s getting late.
Commander
With so many challenges ahead, it’s time for you to get some good rest tonight so you’ll be fully recharged for tomorrow’s hard work!
Lenna
Uh-oh! You’ve got a point, Commander.
(Under my urging gaze, Lenna complies and lies down.)
Lenna
Commander, would you mind tucking me in… Yep, yep! And the lights too…
Commander
Good night, Lenna.
Lenna
Hehe! It almost feels unreal to hear you say goodnight to me, Commander!
Lenna
Good night to you too, Commander♪
