Career[edit]
The UE-921 space exploration Doll was custom-tailored by Svarog HI's Asia division for the "Jiutian Plan" space exploration project. Unit UE-921T, also known as "Xinghuan" was the prototype of the product line, and she was assigned to a local aerospace research base. Her duties there included testing human adaptability to high-energy Collapse radiation and zero-G environments, the feasibility of clearing space debris in low-Earth orbits, conducting control tests on space-use exoskeletons and miniaturized piloting capsules, and so on. Thanks to her balanced and overall exemplary capabilities, Xinghuan fulfilled all her tasks almost perfectly, distinguishing herself from several other test-type units and taking part in the training sessions for subsequent improved models.
The exact reason for Xinghuan's entry into Project Neural Cloud is unknown. Supposedly, it was part of the collaboration protocol that Svarog HI established with 42Lab, but it is also rumored that it was because of unexpected events during the project.
Doll Profile 1[edit]
To some extent, the advent of space exploration Dolls is a clash between idealists and reality.
Due to the devastating worldwide Collapse Particle cloud pollution, the aerospace industry became stagnant and even began to regress. With no foreseeable timetable for the abatement of the Collapse Particle clouds and with no known technologies for overcoming their influence on the market, many countries' space agencies announced their closure, one after another, and humanity's prospects for exploring space grew slim. However, the "Jiutian Plan" space exploration project that was first proposed in the 2050s proved that humanity had not given up on its ambitions to venture into the cosmos.
As warfare and deteriorating environmental conditions whittled away at the talent pool for spacefarers, it forced the "Jiutian Plan" to find candidates that could partially replace human astronauts. Making already-rare human astronauts work in extremely dangerous environments was not wise. In turn, the participants turned their attention toward Doll technology, which was rapidly flourishing at the time.
To maximize their chances of meeting the project's complex requirements, the "Jiutian Plan" submitted multiple orders to Svarog HI. However, most of the theorized solutions ran into problems of excessive cost or technical stability. In the end, the only model that met with their approval was the UE-921 model. In keeping with the "Jiutian Plan's" requirements, the prototype was designated as a "test unit" or the UE-921T. After that, several other test-type units with minor design variations were rolled out and put into trials along with it. In the end, the best-performing unit turned out to be the UE-921T prototype, and as such, she earned a name for herself–"Xinghuan".
Doll Profile 2[edit]
In stark contrast with the difficult development process for her model, Xinghuan's name contained her designers' inspiration and hope for exploring the cosmos. Xinghuan herself was an excellent fit for the vision of the "Jiutian Plan" for a taikonaut Doll. Her abilities were both balanced and reliable, she had no obvious shortcomings, and she demonstrated remarkable improvement after follow-up training. More importantly, she had tremendous room for improvement. She could handle a wide variety of tasks including space exploration, orbital engineering, and even military functions with the right modules.
Her excellent performance led to the project team's great expectations for her, and a tremendous amount of resources were poured into her during the development and testing phase. Given the need for her to engage in sustained, highly demanding activity in zero-G environments, Xinghuan's bodily and endoskeletal structures are unlike any other Doll's—in other words, Xinghuan's physical performance in environments with gravity was only just enough for basic functionality. To address this discrepancy between her bodily characteristics and her work environment, the researchers and her coaches devised a complex and intricate piece of equipment for her; a powered exoskeleton equipped with multipurpose limbs and vector-thrust nozzles for movement in zero-G environments, as well as a large-bore thermal energy discharge weapon.
Xinghuan was beside herself with joy when she received this piece of gear. The workers thought she might need more time for practice and acclimation to it, but she managed to grasp its controls in just a third of the expected time. Given her eagerness to pilot the exoskeleton, learning to use it was not so much completing a task as it was indulging her interests.
Doll Profile 3[edit]
Despite all the expectations placed on her, Xinghuan never got to see or travel into space, due to reasons which we are all abundantly aware of. Most of her time was spent in the depths of the research base, inside a simulated zero-G facility. Many of the humans and Dolls who took part in experiments with Xinghuan ended up exhibiting various psychological issues or neural cloud confusion, due to the isolated environment. However, Xinghuan remained the sole exception; she maintained her cheerful and outgoing personality throughout the entire experimental regime and many of her colleagues commented that she was easygoing and energetic. At the same time, she displayed her reliable and trustworthy side as she worked. She was capable of effectively handling most emergencies and assisting her fellows.
Very few of the research team's anonymous internal reviews concerning her were negative. Perhaps they did not overflow with saccharine-sweet praise for her, but in general, the comments on her personality and skills were positive, aside from remarks such as "overly loud speaking voice", "too energetic" and "eats twice as much as the average person".
In addition, Xinghuan showed a marked preference for space-related sci-fi entertainment, probably due to the contents of her database. She could always be counted on to eagerly discuss such things both new and old, freely demonstrating her love for such fictional explorations of the depths of space. As a natural romantic, Xinghuan was an inheritor of humanity's endless dreams of space.
Doll Profile 4[edit]
In her friends' eyes, Xinghuan was like her namesake; ever-radiant and dazzling. However, that did not mean she never felt down. Rather, she used her cheerful personality and forthright nature to find an appropriate channel for them. She considered every mission an interesting challenge, and named her support robot "Liuxing". In the company of her little friend, she managed to turn even the most boring schedule into an entertaining experience.
During her lengthy study and training period, she slowly became one of the base's veterans, having made friends with just about everyone there. After completing a series of assignments, Xinghuan had not even gone on vacation before she learned that she had been chosen to take part in Project Neural Cloud with a fellow prototype Doll "Yuwang". At first, she thought she would be having her vacation in the Neural Cloud sector, but after the Wipe-off Incident, she arrived in the space sector "Jiutian".
In Jiutian, Xinghuan got to experience something similar to what she had always been looking forward to; being able to someday "go to space". While she knew that this was little more than a complex simulation and part of the "Jiutian Plan" that had birthed her, she quickly devoted herself wholeheartedly to it and embarked on her own new journey within the secto—a grand odyssey with no end in sight.
Doll Profile 5[edit]
After the great upheaval in the Jiutian sector, Xinghuan awakened again in the Oasis.
When she first began living in the Oasis, Xinghuan ran into a series of problems: this "comfortable" environment was utterly unfamiliar to her, while her reawakening had led to brief neural cloud confusion and amnesia, as well as a bunch of accidents caused by exceptionally poor adaptation to her new environment–
"Wait, can I really not fly my exo around here?"
–Audio clip taken after an accident involving her exoskeleton in the Oasis' central plaza, resulting in temporary detention by Evelyn.
However, Xinghuan adjusted to her environment with startling speed and quickly established new friendships with the people around her, including (but not limited to) Croque and the Professor. The former was deeply interested in Xinghuan's abilities as well as her skills at piloting her powered exoskeleton. As for the latter, Xinghuan was unusually enthusiastic about them. Perhaps it was because of a certain resonance between idealists, or perhaps it was due to an explorer's keen senses, but she ended up equally fond of and curious about the Professor.
"Someone as passionate and frighteningly adaptable as her isn't something you see often."
–A certain comment on the Oasis' anonymous message board.
