Career[edit]
The ZM line of zookeeper Dolls was independently developed by UAS. It featured the ability to raise and care for various kinds of animals, maintain and manage zoo premises, act as a tour guide for visitors, and perform other professional skills. Individual ZM units could also be fine-tuned to better meet the needs of different zoos. The ZM56 series was produced relatively early in the line's history. As it was marketed toward family and petting zoos, it featured a child-like appearance and a simulated personality, making it suitable for interacting with younger patrons.
Taisch is a special example of the ZM56 series. She was originally custom-tailored for a private client but was later resold to a newly opened zoo. After the zoo went bankrupt and closed down, Taisch was left behind as part of its assets. UAS recovered her some time later and then transferred her to Project Neural Cloud.
Doll Profile 1[edit]
The ZM series of Dolls was born from a zoo's need for a workforce that was competent in multiple fields. In an age where labor was in short supply, the costs of hiring multiple employees to cover various functions grew steadily higher. Dolls, with their flexible capabilities and broad adaptability, were seen as the solution to this dilemma. To address this niche in the market, UAS started the ZM series project for an animal husbandry Doll. The earlier models produced by this project were simple manual laborer types, equipped with high-spec sensory modules, computation modules oriented toward animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, as well as data models containing animal handling information. When it came to dealing with dangerous animals, handling boring and repetitive manual labor, and other such tasks, these professional zoo management dolls proved to be superior to human beings.
As more and more orders poured in with specific requirements, the ZM series also had client-interfacing, venue management, and other such functions added to them, which led to many derivative models being created. Among them was the family-oriented ZM56 series, which was equipped with neural cloud systems and a body modeled after a human child. In terms of functionality, the ZM56 retained the standard array of capabilities required for zoo work but lost much of its function upgrade capacity as a result, and its ability to handle adult guests was poor. The excessively small niche market also meant that very few ZM56s were purchased.
Doll Profile 2[edit]
Due to the designated role of the ZM series, most of them were purchased by corporate entities. The sole exception to this rule was a particular ZM56 unit that was customized to the specifications of an older woman. Little is known about this special buyer, but the limited information available suggested that she was struck with an intense urge to purchase one after seeing the promotional material for the ZM56 Doll series.
During the customization process, the buyer requested several adjustments to be made to the Doll's neural cloud and named her "Taisch". After purchasing Taisch, the buyer arranged for her to undergo further aftermarket modifications to address the issue of the ZM56 having too little neural cloud memory, as well as custom-making a pair of mechatronic animal companions for her. It was speculated that this was when Taisch's love of fantasy creatures was incorporated into her neural cloud—but that was merely speculation, of course.
However, Taisch was soon resold on the second-hand Doll market not long after being purchased. In turn, those new buyers sold her to a zoo at a low price. According to Taisch's purchase and transfer records, the old lady who initially commissioned her was likely to be deceased.
Doll Profile 3[edit]
Taisch's new workplace after being resold was a themed zoo that kept biosynthetic mechatronic animals. Her job scope there included facility management, guiding visitors around, caring for the animals, and performing tasks that adults would have a hard time completing, such as managing child visitors and maintenance work in cramped spaces.
During the early stages of her employment, Taisch encountered common problems faced by other members of the ZM56 series; namely, her bland facial expression and childlike appearance made it difficult for human workers and certain guests to take her seriously. However, after several incidents when she managed to soothe distraught children, her calm demeanor, practical work attitude, and her ability to manage younger visitors slowly won her the approval of her colleagues.
When the zoo first opened, it gained much attention for its use of biosynthetic animals. However, as the company's direction gradually began to shift behind the scenes and the zoo division slowly lost support, the business begin declining. Despite Taisch's excellent professional skills, she could not save the zoo from its operational crisis. Fewer and fewer visitors were coming, profits were dropping, and several accidents led to public opinion turning against the zoo. After attempts to expand the premises and host events proved fruitless, the company announced that they were abandoning the enterprise and decided to liquidate the zoo.
Doll Profile 4[edit]
The high cost of demolishing or continuing business on top of the zoo's remote location made it difficult to sell the property, and thus the company decided to shut it down and abandon it. As part of the zoo's assets, Taisch and the mechatronic animals were also abandoned with it. Taisch's low neural cloud capacity meant that her neural cloud had been formatted many times during the course of her employment, and after the zoo went bust, Taisch was once again cleared of all data by the staff before they left.
When Taisch awoke again, all she saw was a run-down zoo that was closed for business. Without human workers to answer her questions or instruct her, Taisch had no idea what had happened. All she could do was follow the base layer commands she had been programmed with and continue caring for the mechatronic animals in a zoo that had no visitors. Thanks to her diligence, the animals initially managed to carry on in good condition, until more and more of them had to be written off due to the lack of proper maintenance.
This state of affairs lasted for several years until Taisch's zoo, now bereft of anyone, became the subject of urban legends which spoke of strange creatures running through abandoned buildings and a ghost-like child who seemed to walk its halls. After UAS learned about the matter, they brought Taisch back in and performed a basic diagnostic on her.
Doll Profile 5[edit]
Her long solitude had left Taisch with quite a few bad segments in her neural cloud, which had ended up fusing with her mechatronic animal assistants. The likelihood of a complete recovery seemed low, and due to the ZM56 production line being shut down, Taisch was sent to 42Lab to take part in Project Neural Cloud as the sole surviving representative of her series.
After coming to the Oasis, Taisch became the subject of heated debate due to her unique nature. In order to help stabilize her neural cloud, the Professor had the Engineering Department set aside a small area to be her new workplace in the Oasis. However, "The Oasis Zoo's" spooky atmosphere and mysterious keeper led to it becoming the subject of an urban legend circulating on the Oasis forums. In truth, the small size of the zoo and lack of visitors meant that Taisch's zoo was largely empty, but that much was enough for Taisch. Perhaps she had found joy in things beyond caring for animals and collecting data on fantasy creatures.
"Hm... Taisch appeared behind Max without a sound and gave Max such a scare that she almost jumped out of her skin... For some reason, Taisch seemed to be enjoying herself..."
