Lenna Story Profile Quotes

"I can't sleep yet, I still have work to do..."

This article still needs to be completed with this content: Write memories recap.

Record 1

Original codename: UMP9. Founding member of H.I.D.E. 404. As a way to enhance performance, she assisted Persica in the completion of the "Remolding Pattern" technology by volunteering as a subject for the experiment, thereby narrowing the power gap between herself and more advanced third-generation Dolls. After Kalina took office at the Non-Military Forces Administration (NOMFA), UMP9—together with her sister UMP45—accepted Kalina's invitation to work as her assistants. During this period, she began using her previous name "Lenna" as her public identity.

Confronted with the drastic shift in role and the challenges of adapting to a new environment, Lenna's lively, cheerful, and approachable personality ultimately enabled her to overcome the initial setbacks and allowed her to embrace her new duties, taking charge of much of Kalina's external communications. Though she still reminisces about the days of operating alongside her 404 squadmates, Lenna has gradually accepted the reality that everyone has their duty to fulfill. Yet, she still holds onto the belief that she remains part of the 404 family deep in her heart.

Compared to her past self, Lenna has noticeably grown more mature and professional at work all the while still sporting her trademark uplifting smile. Yet in the brief moments when her guard is down, or when her closest family is present, glimpses of her innocent side slip through the cracks. She simply can't hide her silly, satisfied grin when receiving praise from her sister, Leva.

"Hmm? What was that? Leva, I think my signal is cutting out~"

"Please~ Say it again, just once more! The last one didn't count. Hehe♪"

Record 2

Gentle sunlight streamed through the glass of Kalina's office, pouring down on the two potted plants by the window.

One of the plants was drooping while the other... was also drooping.

Lenna set down the watering can, crouched beside the drooping branches, and poked at them with her finger.

Snap.

A brittle twig broke off and fell to the floor.

"Ugh... Why's this happening?"

"I'm measuring the amount of water down to the milliliter. The temperature, humidity, and soil acidity—they all perfectly match the guide. Why are you two still withering?"

She stared at the "Easy Care Instruction" sticker on the pot, and double-checked its content over and over again.

Geraniums, she'd got them from Persica just last month. Their listed features included: blooms all year round, relieves human fatigue, and—"easy to care for".

Looking back at the drooping branches, that comment left by the engineer might as well have been a silent mockery.

With a helpless and wronged look, Lenna poked at the frail branches once again.

"You two... If there's something wrong, you can just tell me, you know..."

Naturally, no plant could possibly answer her.

After a moment, Lenna stood up, gathered herself, and clenched her fists in resolve.

"Guess there's no helping it... I'll just get new ones! At least these ones lasted one week longer, that's progress."

"I'm sure I'll get it right next time! Hehe♪"

Record 3

As the assistant to Senior Counselor Kalina, one of Lenna's primary duties is... answering questions and easing concerns. "Hmm. Hello, Mr. Counselor. You're calling about the result of the previous PMC qualification exams, correct? Oh... you already talked with Miss Kalina before? Please hold a moment while I confirm that for you♪"

Talking through the comms line dedicated to external contact, Lenna's tone remained warm and quippy.

After putting the caller on hold, she gazed at Kalina. Standing by the window with a thermal cup in hand, Kalina shook her head with a subtle, snarky look. Lenna responded with a bright smile and an "OK" gesture before turning back to the call.

"Thanks for your patience, Mr. Counselor. I've checked with Miss Kalina, and the decision remains—"

A series of shouts and curses came through the communicator, yet Lenna's expression did not change in the slightest. "Haha♪ That's a good joke—but there's no way we'd deliberately make things more difficult for you."

"Yes, yes~ I understand."

She nodded as she spoke, even though there was no way for the caller to see the expression she was making.

"The PMC you mentioned is certainly capable, but the NOMFA needs to consider matters from multiple aspects."

"As Miss Kalina pointed out earlier, this PMC has not met the minimum registration time required for application, and some of their equipment has unidentified origins. So, unfortunately..."

"Yes, you are right, but it would be a big problem if this causes damage to the reputation of the NOMFA♪ And, as you may know, we must ensure the authority of the URNC government."

"Mm-hmm, I'm glad you understand. A friendly reminder, failing this examination won't affect future applications, I promise♪"

Throughout the exchange, Lenna's voice remained steady and cheerful.

Kalina quietly watched as Lenna hung up the call and started humming a little tune as she proceeded to organize the meeting reports, and—within three seconds of the next call ringing up—briskly picked up the communicator again.

"Hello, this is the office of the Senior Counselor of the Non-Military Forces Administration. How may I help you?♪"

Indeed, only Lenna could handle this job.

Hearing Lenna's calm and friendly tone, Kalina let out a reassuring smile and returned to her own work.

Record 4

"Hm-hm♪ Action logs... action logs..."

Late at night, after finishing a full day's work, Lenna lay cheerfully on the sofa, scrolling through the action logs on her personal device. Watching recordings of past missions gave her the chance to admire her family's impressive performances—a little hobby she had picked up during her off-times.

"Uwah♪ Lucky me~ There's a new one uploaded by Leva today! Maybe I'll get to see her in it!"

"Oh~ It's that mission where she accompanied Miss Kalina to the banquet... I remember Leva brought it up before..."

Murmuring excitedly, Lenna quickly clicked into the file, her eyes brimming with anticipation. One by one, high-definition footage of Leva was loaded onto the screen. Lenna sat up straight, her eyes gleaming.

"She's wearing an evening gown! So... so beautiful♪"

"...Even her uncomfortable expression is so adorable!"

After admiring Leva's outfit from every possible angle, Lenna suddenly jumped up.

"I bet I can make that exact outfit out of a bed sheet. Let me try it now♪"

She dashed over to the workbench and immediately began sketching and cutting patterns.

By sunrise, Lenna was twirling around in the dawn light in her improvised bed sheet gown.

"Family members should wear matching clothes, right? Ehe♪ I wonder if I look more like Leva now."

Click. The apartment door unlocked.

Leva stepped inside and immediately locked eyes with Lenna, who had stayed up all night without rest.

Leva had already grown used to her sister imitating her wardrobe, so the sight didn't surprise her too much.

Only... under the makeshift gown, certain contours of Lenna's body were far more pronounced than usual.

"Uwaah♪ Leva! Why are you back so suddenly? I missed you so much!"

Lenna's eyes widened in delight as she leapt toward Leva.

Leva lowered her head, her gaze—unobstructed by her chest—landed directly on her feet.

As she raised her head again, her eyes inevitably lingered on Lenna's body.

"Yeah, I'm back. Missed you too. Also... are you really copying the gown I wore at the banquet seven hours ago?"

"Stop. Copying. What. I. Am. Wearing."

With a calm, restrained smile, Leva rolled up her sleeves.

Record 5

This record was captured during a certain New Year's Eve. Persica later stumbled upon it during routine maintenance, hidden within Lenna's neural records.

"Lenna, Kalina and I are heading out now. The office will be in your care. If anything urgent comes up, contact us right away..."

Leva paused mid-instruction and chuckled.

"Not that it really matters. Things only go one of two ways on New Year's Eve—perfectly peaceful, or earth-shakingly devastating."

"If it's the latter, we'll be notified immediately anyway... but I reckon it'll be a quiet night."

Lenna nodded with a bright smile.

"Don't worry, Leva, I'll be fine♪ Not like it's my first time pulling a night shift alone."

Leva reached out and patted her head.

"Mhm. One last thing—"

"Although it's a little early, but... Happy New Year."

With that blessing, Leva waved her goodbye and stepped out of the office.

The door shut automatically behind her, and from the other side came Kalina's teasing voice.

"Finally done with the farewell? We're just heading out for a few hours..."

Leva's response, along with their footsteps, gradually faded into the distance.

Lenna's smile softened. She glanced around the now-empty office. Somehow, the place felt even colder with everyone else gone.

Kalina and Leva were attending a government event; Klukai and Mechty were out on a mission.

That left herself in the office, all alone.

Coming out of her momentary trance, Lenna gently clapped her face before her mood could sink further.

Hadn't she already come to terms with this...? There were things she could do all by herself—things that would help everyone out.

What should it be, then? On a New Year's Eve, all by herself... It's the perfect time for a deep clean-up♪

She would tidy all the nooks and crannies the janitors usually missed! Then, when Leva and others came back, they'd be greeted with a spotless, brand-new-looking office.

Alright! Time to work!

Time slipped by unnoticed. As midnight struck, fireworks started blooming in the sky, and the office tower where Lenna was had to be the perfect viewing spot.

Red, green—and every color in between—all bloomed and painted a dazzling radiance in her eyes.

"Happy New Year, Big Sis Leva!"

"Happy New Year, Miss Kalina!"

"Happy New Year, Klukai!"

"..."

"Happy New Year! Happy New Year! Happy New Year!"

"Happy New Year... Commander..."

It's okay—even if she shouted at the top of her lungs, no one would stop her, because no one was around to hear her.

On that night, Lenna let out all the pent-up longing she had been burying in her heart.

Record 6

It was the third day of our rest in the city. I stood at the edge of a public square, unable to refrain myself from checking the letter in my hand over and over again.

It was an invitation from Lenna. In it she wrote that she wanted to give me a "surprise" here.

From where I stood, the entire square was in full view. And yet, I couldn't seem to spot Lenna anywhere.

Just as I began to suspect this might be some sort of prank, a fluffy bear cub suddenly came bouncing toward me from the center of the square—a bear suit as tall as a person, usually worn by a human or a Doll.

Wait... could that be Lenna?

Before I could sort through my thoughts, the bear had already hopped right up to me, clutching a cluster of balloons in its hand.

I noticed that the balloons were printed with the NOMFA insignia, which all but confirmed the bear's identity.

The bear clapped its stubby paws and bounced around me in a circle.

The bear waved its paws to draw my attention, then stuffed a balloon into my hand.

The bear pressed its oversized fuzzy head against my chest and snuggled up against me.

I couldn't help but laugh at the mascot's jests.

"Eheheh♪ You've finally laughed, Commander!"

Lenna's voice came through the bear, slightly muffled by the thick suit.

"Hehe♪ That was part of the Administration's regular public outreach program, and it's only just ended."

"Ah, I should probably take the headpiece off before we continue."

Without further ado, she removed the suit's headpiece, revealing her own head, also wearing a pair of bear ears.

"Ta-da♪ Surprise! Ehehe, a bear inside a bear!"

"Seems like there's something weighing on your mind lately, Commander. I don't really understand, but... I'm sure it must be something important, right?"

"Though, I do know this—you haven't laughed in... forty-seven—no, fifty-two hours."

"Commander♪ Come on, give me a smile♪ Just like this..."

The bear—No, Lenna—cupped my face with her round paws, trying to lift the corners of my lips into a grin.

"Hehe♪ I know this city like the back of my hand, Commander."

"Sweet afternoon tea, park in full bloom, and breathtaking night view—all waiting for us..."

"How about we embark on a little stroll together, Commander?"

Record 7

One day, I was sleeping in my room as usual, when I suddenly woke up from a dream.

In the darkness, I could feel something's off. Maybe it was the breeze brushing by my ears out of the blue, or perhaps the faint, unfamiliar scent at the tip of my nose, or perhaps just an illusion born from me being on the edge all the time—I even thought I heard some faint rustling sounds.

I sat up and turned on the light.

As I pressed on the switch, I was sure I had also caught the sound of a small gasp, like someone sharply drawing in a breath.

The ceiling light flooded the room. In the bright, gentle glow, nothing could remain hidden.

The chairs and desk sat quietly in their usual places—nothing out of the ordinary, as if all the feelings that irked me so had been just in my head.

I looked around again, only to notice in the corner of my room stood... a new potted plant?

The plant was in full bloom, with clusters of tiny, pink flowers blushing delicately. The unfamiliar scent clearly had come from them.

Puzzled, I thought to myself: only a few could enter my room without permission...

"Uhh... Who's there?"

Of course, the room remained silent, and I was left with no reply.

But just as I lowered my head without much further pondering, I caught sight of something: at the edge of the bed's shadow, a strand of brown hair was slowly retreating underneath my bed.

I chuckled quietly, then deliberately started praising the potted plant in the corner.

"I wonder who left this here? Hmm, it looks very pleasing, and the fragrance is very delightful. I wonder for how long it'll bloom?"

"...For a long time! If it's cared for properly, geraniums can bloom for months♪"

Sure enough, Lenna's voice came from underneath my bed.

I smiled, "Lenna, come out from under my bed. I've already found you."

"Ah—I got spotted♪" she replied cheekily, and soon after, emerged at my bedside, patting dust off her clothes.

"This is a geranium. They say it helps ease fatigue. Ever since I saw this plant for the first time, I wanted to plant one myself and give it to you, Commander. Hehe♪"

"It's a delicate little plant, though! I've tried so many times before, but they would never grow well."

"Yet, after you came back, they suddenly started to flourish—I have no idea why."

"Maybe... your presence lets even my plants feel at ease♪"

Record 8

During a certain commission, after the handover was complete, Lenna escorted me back from the city to the Elmo.

The day had already grown late. Outside the jeep, a sudden gale not predicted by the weather report rose. In the howling wind, the vehicle suddenly jolted violently, warning lights flashing across the dashboard.

Along with the alerts, the heater had also shut down automatically, and the temperature inside the cabin quickly began to drop.

"Ah... Commander, I think the jeep just broke down..."

From the driver's seat, Lenna checked the warning lights, then glanced at me with unease.

I nodded, reaching for the door. "Yeah, I'll go take a look."

Lenna leaned over and held onto my hand.

"Commander, let me go instead. Look how windy it's out there... It must be really cold."

I shook my head in disagreement, "If there's something that needs fixing, it'll be faster if I do it myself."

Lenna gazed at me, eyes widened and worried. Faced with that look, I instinctively reached out and patted her head.

"I'll be back in no time."

The repair took a bit longer than I expected. It was only when I finally returned to the jeep and felt the lingering warmth inside the cabin that I realized my entire body had gone completely numb due to the temperature outside.

Lenna stared at me with a focused intensity, as if afraid I might suddenly collapse or vanish.

The door closed, shutting the roaring wind outside.

"As expected of you, Commander♪ The jeep's started up again!"

She threw herself into my arms. Even the warmth of synthetic skin felt like the scorching sun to me.

"Commander... You're finally back..."

"You're so cold... I raised my frame temperature a little. Now my body should feel a little warmer to you♪."

Burying her face against my neck, her soft voice lingered in my ear.

"Until you're all warmed-up, use me like a hand-warmer... and hold onto me a little longer..."

Memories

Chairman's Vassal 1

(Late at night after working overtime, with sleep still eluding me, I find myself wandering into the lounge.)
(With only dim lights illuminating the hallway, faint noises drift out of Lenna’s dorm room into the otherwise complete silence.)
Lenna
Hey-hey♪ Can you hear me? Siimulator No. 996?
Lenna
…Weird. Lost connection already?
(I knock on Lenna’s door.
Commander
Lenna?
Lenna
Yay! It’s back online♪ Let’s try again!
(Lenna’s muttering can be heard from inside the room, she is completely oblivious to the knocking.)
(I then push open the door myself.)
Lenna
…Good job, Simulator No. 996! Now it’s your turn to transmit the data back. You’ve got to succeed♪
(With her VR helmet on, Lenna is fully immersed in her world. A pile of design blueprints is scattered on the table right beside her.)
Lenna
Uh-oh! I don’t think I’m actually syncing—I’m just taking over No. 996’s control.
Lenna
Oh no! W-what are these error messages and crash logs… I-I can’t turn it off? W-what should I do…
(For some reason, Lenna starts flailing around frantically.)
(Bonk. Her wrist hits the corner of the table, and she gasps instinctively.)
(I step in and help Lenna remove the helmet.)
Lenna
Whew! I’m saved! Thank you so much…
Lenna
C-Commander♪
(Perhaps because I just helped her escape some sort of impending disaster, Lenna’s eyes sparkle as she excitedly holds my hands.)
(With her small hands and chilling fingertips, I can almost feel the faint warmth of her palms even through the gloves.)
Lenna
Commander♪ Thank goodness you showed up!
Lenna
I thought for sure I was done for and that it would be days before anyone came to my rescue…
Commander
Really? Don’y Kalina and Leva usually check in with you every day?
Lenna
Well, they’re both busy with their own work. Plus, I’m on vacation now!
Lenna
Right! I haven’t welcomed you yet. Please, have a seat, Commander. Is there a reason you came here so late at night?
(Lenna pulls me toward the only chair in the room, then jumps onto the bed herself and sits on its edge.)
Lenna
Let me guess♪ Is it to ask me out? If it’s with you, Commander, I’ve got all the time in the world!
Commander
Umm. I just happened to notice the commotion in your room while passing by since I couldn’t sleep.
Commander
And you? Why aren’t YOU in hibernation at this hour?
Lenna
Hehe. I need to spend my precious vacation time on… Well, that’s Lenna’s secret♪
(Lenna quickly covers her mouth and shakes her head, making sure she doesn’t accidentally blurt out her little secret.)
Commander
I see. But even so, don’t forget to hibernate and perform your maintenance checks regularly.
Lenna
Yes, yes♪ I will, Commander! So don’t worry about it!
(Lenna nods energetically and lowers her hands. She then pauses for a moment, looking quite conflicted.)
Lenna
…Well, I guess it can’t hurt to tell you; you’re the Commander after all. And the simulation test has failed yet again…
(Seeing Lenna’s troubled expression, I let out a sigh.)
Commander
Feel free to tell me about your secret plan if you need any help, Lenna. I promise I’ll keep it just between us.
Commander
I can’t sleep anyway, so there’s plenty of time to figure out what’s wrong together.
Lenna
Uhh…
(Lenna wrestles with herself for a moment, then clenches her fists in determination.)
Lenna
The truth is, I’m trying to develop a special signal plugin during this vacation, Commander.
Lenna
It’s something I’ve been drawing up for a long time…
Commander
Special signal plugin?
Lenna
Yep! An all-weather, unrestricted, long-distance communication plugin that will let me stay in touch with my family.
(Lenna seems to have mustered all her courage to squeeze these words out. After finishing, she closes her eyes, not daring to see my reaction.)
Commander
…Huh?
Lenna
…Ehh? You’re not going to dismiss it? Or make fun of me?
Lenna
I pitched this idea to Persica and Dier before, only to be made fun of for my naivety! They were so inconsiderate! That’s why I didn’t want to share it anymore.
Lenna
The fact that you didn’t dismiss my idea outright is almost making me tear up, Commander.
Commander
Pfffft. I can see where Persica and Dier are coming from. Honestly, you shouldn’t get your hopes up, because as far as my understanding of modern technology goes, no one has been able to invent such a thing yet.
Lenna
Yeah, yeah! I know how challenging it’s going to be, but I really, really need it!
Commander
May I ask why you’re so insistent? What do you hope to accomplish with such a plugin?
Lenna
Hehe♪ Well…
Lenna
Part of the reason is that, since everyone in 404 now has their own duties and responsibilities unlike before, it’s not always possible to get in touch when I miss them.
Lenna
That includes you, Commander… Even when you’re on my mind constantly, there’s nothing I can do to convey my longing.
Lenna
After experiencing all that, it’s only natural for me to want the family to be more tightly knit, right? Don’t you think so, Commander?
(Lenna’s tone gradually grows gloomier, and she wraps up her sentence by throwing me a wistful gaze.)
(Despite her not placing any blame, I can’t shake this strange sense of guilt.)
Commander
Well, we’ll be seeing each other a lot in the future, so let the past stay in the past.
Lenna
Don’t you think you should give the lonely and desolate Lenna some consolation at a time like this, Commander?
(I hesitantly reach out and pat Lenna’s shoulder heavily.)
Lenna
Is this enough?
Lenna
Commander♪ My neural records tell me that, even ignoring the seconds-long recalls, I’ve been missing you for a solid few thousand hours!
(I ponder for a moment, open my arms, and give Lenna a hug.)
(Lenna snuggles up against me, then suddenly looks up with a smile, showing no trace of her earlier gloom.)
Lenna
Yay♪ Now I’m satisfied!
Lenna
Hehe, Commander. What I just said was all made up… Actually, that melancholic look specifically was just an act.
Lenna
It’s not every day that you come to see me, Commander, and I just wanted to take the opportunity to get closer to you.
Commander
…I’m glad you’re okay.
Lenna
Ahem, let’s get back to where I left off.
Lenna
My past self feared and dreaded changes and separations within the family. I was afraid that everyone would slowly drift apart, leaving me behind, and that eventually, I would have no home to return to…
Commander
So, DID they leave you behind?
(I ask, though we both already know the answer.)
Lenna
Hehe, of course not! Just look at me now—Miss Kalin’s capable and helpful assistant.
Lenna
Looking back, I was indeed being paranoid. The 404 family didn’t drift apart just because we were physically separated. And you were not trying to distance yourself from me either, Commander!
Commander
You’ve indeed matured and become more independent.
Lenna
Gosh! Of course I had to grow up; otherwise I wouldn’t be able to keep up with the family. But that’s not what I want to get across.
Lenna
What I’m trying to say is… even though times change, some feelings remain the same.
Lenna
Say, hmm… you, Commander!
Commander
Me?
Lenna
Although I can now rationalize that the “temporary separation” was the right decision, back then, I simply couldn’t control my longing when I had the excess computing power to overthink it…
Lenna
I couldn’t help but wonder if things were going well for you and if your journey was safe. When I encountered something interesting at work, I’d think, “The Commander would definitely be interested,” immediately followed by, “I can’t wait to share this with the Commander!”
Lenna
Only if I could invent some sort of real-time synchronization plugin, then I’d be able to “solve” my longing by transcending the barrier of the physical world.
Commander
An unexpected reason, but it does sound like something you’d come up with.
Lenna
Ehe♪ If I can get it working, I’ll be able to better understand your needs and help out more promptly. Miss Kalin, Leva, and everyone at 404 too♪ If only we could all be connected.
Commander
It’s indeed an interesting idea, but I’ve got to say… based on what I know of Leva, hmm…
Lenna
Yes? What’s up with Leva?
Commander
Are you sure you don’t want to get her opinion before you continue with the development?
Commander
I reckon it would be quite challenging to get Leva to sign up for a real-time synchronization plugin.
Lenna
Oh! …That’s true!
(Lenna pauses, seemingly lost in her inner turmoil as her facial expression shifts rapidly.)
Lenna
You’re right. Convincing Leva will certainly be just as challenging, if not more so, than creating the plugin in the first place! Ugh!
(Lenna clutches her head.)
(I take the opportunity to hand the blanket beside me to Lenna.)
Commander
All right, it’s getting late.
Commander
With so many challenges ahead, it’s time for you to get some good rest tonight so you’ll be fully recharged for tomorrow’s hard work!
Lenna
Uh-oh! You’ve got a point, Commander.
(Under my urging gaze, Lenna complies and lies down.)
Lenna
Commander, would you mind tucking me in… Yep, yep! And the lights too…
Commander
Good night, Lenna.
Lenna
Hehe! It almost feels unreal to hear you say goodnight to me, Commander!
Lenna
Good night to you too, Commander♪

Chairman's Vassal 2

(One morning, I walk into the ops room, ready to start the day’s schedule.)
(Sitting in my usual chair, I sense that something is off.)
Commander
Did I just… step on something?
(I look under the table and see Lenna sleeping soundly, her arms wrapped around her knees.)
Commander
…Lenna?
Lenna
Please wait a second. Let me hang up this call with the Commander first… Uhh, Commander…
(With her eyelids closed, Lenna quietly mutters a string of nonsensical babble. I gently pat her on the head.)
Lenna
…Whoa! Commander! I-I fell asleep!
Commander
What are you doing here?
Lenna
I wanted to give you a little “surprise”, but it looks like I fell asleep first. Hehe…
(Lenna smiles, embarrassed. Though it may be my imagination, I sense that her smile is somewhat reluctant.)
Commander
What’s the matter? You seem to have something on your mind.
Lenna
Ugh…
(Lenna’s smile fades completely. Her head gently droops before she dives dejectedly into my arms.)
(Unlike her “act” from before, I can clearly feel her bewilderment and helplessness this time.)
Lenna
Do you remember the real-time synchronization plugin I told you about, Commander?
Commander
I do. Did Leva refuse to go along with your idea?
Lenna
(Sigh) You were completely right, Commander. Her reaction was almost word-for-word what you predicted…
Lenna
I forgot to ask last time because we were focused on Leva, but… what are YOUR thoughts on this, Commander?
Lenna
Would you be willing to stay connected with me at all times?
(Lenna buries her face deeper in my chest, her voice muffled.)
Commander
Hmm…
(Lenna’s evident bad mood makes me hesitate to answer. Instead, I pat her on the head and choose to deflect the topic for now.)
Commander
Did something happen between you and Leva?
Lenna
Nothing serious, it’s bound to happen at some point.
Lenna
I just accidentally slipped up about developing the plugin during a call, and…
(Lenna chokes up and begins treating me like a giant plushie, tightening her hug even more.)
Lenna
Leva… was so heartless! Cruel! She rejected my idea outright…
(Lenna’s voice carries a hint of grievance, so I gently stroke her back to soothe her.)
Lenna
I’m not sure what to do now, Commander.
Lenna
If the purpose of my synchronization plugin is to close the “distance” between users, yet no one wants or even needs it… then what is the point of my effort?
Lenna
Yet if I give up on it, what else can I do to substitute for it?
Commander
Your goal is to keep the family closely knit, right? We humans have many other ways to achieve that…
Lenna
Yeah! Can you share some insights with me?
Commander
Even for humans, no family stays bonded together for life.
Commander
However, as a good “family” often has shared thoughts and beliefs, they tend to make similar judgments when faced with comparable dilemmas.
Commander
And it’s these decisions that end up leading every member in the same direction and, as the paths converge, eventually back together.
Lenna
I’m having trouble wrapping my head around all that… But for some reason, listening to your words makes my neural cloud feel warm, Commander♪
Lenna
Ah. Have I interrupted you? Please continue.
(Lenna seems to be slowly calming down.)
Commander
Although it’s unrealistic to maintain that connection in the material world, I believe everyone’s spirit and aspirations can remain “connected”.
(Lenna looks up at me, her eyes sparkling once again.)
Lenna
What should I do then? How can I get the family to stay “connected”?
(I try to come up with suggestions that are easy to implement.)
Commander
If you ask me, I think items with symbolic meaning would suffice.
Commander
Say you craft something that symbolizes yourself, Lenna, then every time I see it, I will be reminded of you and the support you’re giving me.
Lenna
Is that so? That’s much simpler than I thought♪
(Lenna ponders for a moment, her expression softening.)
(I can’t help but take the chance to pinch her cheeks.)
Lenna
Uwuhhh, Com-man-der♪ It’s difficult to talk like this!
(Lenna shakes her head to dodge my hands.)
(As our eyes meet, Lenna’s familiar, genuine smile finally returns to her.)
Lenna
You must be some kind of wizard, Commander— somehow you always manage to make me feel happy and relieved in no time…
Lenna
Thank you for consoling me and giving me advice, Commander♪
Lenna
I’ll carefully consider your suggestion… Actually, I already have some ideas popping up. Hehe♪
Commander
You’re more than welcome. Are you feeling better now?
Lenna
Yep! Thanks to you, Commander!
Lenna
Ah… is it your working hours already? I’ve been bothering you for too long!
Commander
It’s fine.
Lenna
Commander♪ No need to worry about me when you go back to work!
Lenna
I’ll go and carefully draw up my “new plan”. Hehe!
(Lenna lets go of me and hops out of the ops room gleefully.)

Chairman's Vassal 3

(Late at night, the lights in Lenna’s dorm are still on.)
(I’m a little worried that she still hasn’t given up on that synchronization plugin of hers.)
Commander
Lenna. It’s getting late.
(I knock on the door.)
Lenna
Commander? I’m coming, just a sec♪
(Lenna’s cheerful voice drifts out from inside the room.)
Lenna
You haven’t gone to rest yet, Commander? Did you just finish dome overtime work? Come on in♪
(This time, it’s no longer a pile of blueprints scattered on Lenna’s table, but rather an assortment of handicraft tools.)
(Noticing my gaze, she also turns to look at the table.)
Lenna
Commander, I’ve officially given up on that “Lenna’s Big Family’s Real-time Synchronization Plugin” thing.
Lenna
In its place, the new plan is—Ta-dah!
(Lenna shoves me into her chair and wheels me around so I can get a closer look at her toolset.)
Lenna
It’s now “Lenna’s Labor of Love Giveaway”!
Commander
Hahaha. What does that even mean?
Lenna
Well, you know… after carefully considering your suggestion, I started experimenting with handicrafts.
Lenna
I put all my heart and soul into the creation of these little things. Hopefully, that will let my longing reach the family properly. Hehe♪
Commander
Sounds like a lot of fun. I’m sure it will work out.
Lenna
I’ve already figured out the way to go about it—spare parts and supplies for Dolls…
Lenna
I can make a special edition of items like electrical tape and metal putty—all marked with “Lenna’s Family”—and hand them out to everyone. What a thoughtful and practical idea♪
(Lenna shows me the result of her hard work, but soon her gaze shifts to me, accompanied by a sly smile.)
Lenna
Hehe♪ Surprise~ I just took advantage of the moment you were distracted and left a “Lenna’s Token” on you!
Lenna
Go ahead and try to find where it is, Commander~
(I look down and check myself, but can’t find anything unusual.)
(Lenna’s grin grows wider. She pats my right shoulder while giggling. I reach after her, but nothing’s there.)
Lenna
Oh my! I misremembered! It’s actually… HERE.
(Lenna leans into my left cheek and gently pats my shoulder. But when I reach after her, there’s still nothing there.)
Commander
You’re making it hard for me to believe that you “misremembered”.
Lenna
…Come on, Commander! Can’t you just play along? It’s for real this time, over here♪
(Lenna lightly taps my lower back. As I reach out, I finally feel a small object there.)
Lenna
Let me get it for you, Commander♪
(Lenna removes the mysterious handicraft and hands it to me; turns out, it’s a velcro patch.)
Commander
This design… it’s “Lenna wearing a heart”?
Lenna
Hehe. The fact that you got its meaning right off the bat means my feelings have successfully reached you, Commander!
Lenna
It’s actually “Lenna’s always thinking about you”! I designed the patch myself. Pretty neat, huh?
Commander
It’s very cute, and certainly very “Lenna”.
Lenna
Woah. Everyone else must love it too if even the Commander approves of it.
Lenna
Then I’ll go ahead and make a few more without worry. I want Miss Kalin, Leva, and everyone else in 404 to all have their own “Lenna’s Family” trinket.
Commander
That sounds like a lot of work. You really do care deeply about your family.
Lenna
That goes without saying!
Lenna
I used to believe that it was pointless for Dolls to possess their own defined character and self-awareness, since we were meant to be tools—and tools are naturally neglected and suppressed by their human managers…
Lenna
It was “family” that brought me out of that abyss, opening the door to a brand-new world for me.
Commander
It’s when Leva saved you from those Doll traffickers, right? I know that story.
Lenna
Yep! Now there are a so many more members in the family. It was by your side that my heart felt warmth for the first time.
Lenna
As such, I also want to bring that same warmth to everyone. Hehe.
(On that note, Lenna is suddenly reminded of something.)
Lenna
By the way, Commander♪ Is there anything else you’ve been eyeing lately? I want to do more for you…
Commander
Hmm? But didn’t I just get something—See, this “Lenna’s Token”.
(I wave around the velcro patch that Lenna stuck and then removed from me earlier.)
Lenna
It’s got to be more than just that! That one is part of the “family mark” that every member shares.
Lenna
Other than that, I want to make something truly special and unique for you.
Lenna
Because you are a special part of the family to me…
(Lenna stutters, the tips of her shoes subconsciously digging into the floor. Her expression, though confused, carries a hint of inexplicable shyness.)
Lenna
Eh? You must be wondering why YOU are special. That’s simply what my neural cloud is telling me, even though I still can’t fully grasp how the algorithms work or how this conclusion was reached.
(Before I can say something, Lenna has already adjusted herself.)
Lenna
Hehe♪ I have a feeling, even though I don’t quite understand it yet…
Lenna
Perhaps I will be able to share a closer connection with you and discover the whole truth after I make a unique gift for you, Commander.
Lenna
Let’s just say it’s purely to help me clear up my confusion—Please tell me what you like, Commander!
(Lenna holds my hand and gives me a look that says she’s determined to get to the bottom of this.)
Lenna
Commander! I won’t let you walk out of here anytime soon unless you “spill it out like a good boy”!
Commander
Ahaha. Give me a second to think about it…
(Under Lenna’s scrutinizing gaze, I come up with a list of accessories that humans may find useful.)
(Meanwhile, Lenna nods attentively.)
Lenna
Uh-hm! I’ve got them all noted, Commander!
Lenna
Rest assured, I’ll surely make something you’ll be satisfied with.
Commander
Am I free to go now?
(I look at my hand that Lenna’s been holding this whole time.)
(Lenna freezes, then lets go of me at once, her cheeks flushing red.)
Lenna
Of course! I-it’s indeed getting late, Commander. You should go rest now!
Lenna
Or… you could also feel free to accompany me a little more!
(During the last bit, Lenna’s voice grows audibly quieter, as if she’s even shyer than before.)

Chairman's Vassal 4

(In the afternoon, Lenna arrives at the ops room.)
Lenna
May I come in? Commander♪
Commander
Of course, Lenna.
(Lenna comes in and bounces along with her hands behind her back.)
Commander
Looks like you’re ina good mood. What’s the good news?
Lenna
Hehe! Leva finally agreed to put the “Lenna’s Family” patch on her backpack!
Lenna
The process took some effort, but Leva didn’t seem to mind it much—at least verbally.
Lenna
But from what I know of her, she genuinely seems to like my gift.
Lenna
It’s all thanks to you, Commander♪ Your suggestions were super-duper helpful!
Commander
Hahaha. I’m glad you both came out of it happy.
Lenna
Hehe♪ Now let’s get down to the real deal.
Lenna
I know it’s not a holiday or anything… but I have a gift for you, Commander!
(Lenna reveals what’s hidden behind her—She presents me a large, fluffy object with both hands.)
Lenna
Remember the list of accessories that you gave me last time so I can make them for you, Commander?
Lenna
Look, it’s my hand-crafted “King of Lions” headdress. Please accept it, Commander.
Lenna
I also made one for myself. If we both wear them, we’ll have a pair of “lions” here!
(After a quick glance, I realize that the hat is fashioned after a lion’s mane.)
Commander
Wow, it’s very cute. Thanks for the gift. Where did you get the idea of making a lion hat?
Lenna
My name comes from “lion” after all, so I decided to make it into my mascot.
Lenna
As for why it’s a pair…
Lenna
Dolls and humans are simply too distinct from one another. You said before it’s the “shared similarities” that bring family members together despite their differences.
Lenna
Therefore, I want to create more “similarities” between us.
Lenna
With it, even if we’re temporarily separated, perhaps we’ll be able to find each other sooner than before.
Lenna
I never want to be apart for that long again.
(Lenna looks at me with a hint of grievance, here eyes still sparkling.)
(Thinking back on those times apart, I can’t help but reach out and caress Lenna’s head.)
Commander
That’s all behind us now.
Lenna
Yeah!
(Lenna nuzzles against my palm and smiles brightly again.)
Lenna
Hehe♪ Why don’t you try it on now, Commander?
Lenna
I also brought mine. Let’s take a picture together with the hats on.
(Lenna says before whipping out her own hat and an instant camera.)
(She stares at me, my silhouette being the sonly thing reflected in her eyes. Her gaze is of such intensity that I realize this is no request I’m in a position to refuse.)
Lenna
I hope this hat will remind you of me whenever you see it, Commander♪
Lenna
Please share more of your longings with me—preferably as much as I long for you, Commander.
(Lenna mutters as she places the hat on my head herself and starts tidying up the lion’s mane.)
Commander
I WILL be thinking about you, Lenna.
Lenna
It’s a promise then♪ You’ll think of me often!
Lenna
So, Commander, shall we start taking pictures now?
(Right as she finishes her sentence, Lenna slyly pulls me in and presses the shutter button—)
Lenna
Look over here, Commander, and say cheese♪
(Moments later, looking at the two lions’ heads snuggled closely together on the screen, Lenna gives me a contented thumbs-up.)
Lenna
Hehe♪ Look, Commander. It’s already done.
(After carefully retrieving the freshly printed photo, Lenna places it in the inner pocket closest to her core.)
Commander
It’s getting kind of hot wearing this hat indoors. Can I take it off for now?
Lenna
Ehhhh! Please wait a moment, Commander—
(Lenna looks flustered all of a sudden and reaches out to hold down the brim of my hat.)
(My vision is suddenly blocked by the brim, leaving me in near-complete darkness.)
Commander
What’s wrong?
(Lenna’s reply comes unusually late, as if she gave it some extra thought and consideration.)
Lenna
Well—Uhh. Guess even I can get a little embarrassed from time to time!
Lenna
I’ve practiced it so many times before coming in. But the moment our eyes met, I just couldn’t get my words out smoothly.
Lenna
Hehe, that’s so unlike me. Can you please let me finish before opening your eyes, Commander?
Commander
Don’t worry. Just take it easy and go at your own pace.
Lenna
Well, while making the lion hats, I kept thinking about things related to you, Commander.
Lenna
Perhaps precisely because of the process, I seem to have heard the voice deep within my mind more clearly.
(Lenna takes a deep breath beside my ear.)
(With my vision obstructed, I can hear her movements more clearly and even feel every breath of hers.)
Lenna
You’re indeed the most special family member to me, Commander.
Lenna
At first, it was because of how you treated Dolls completely differently from other human managers I’d encountered before.
Lenna
You are the very first human who has ever taken me seriously, considered my feelings, and tried to understand me.
Lenna
Your words have always brought me support and comfort, and warmed my heart.
Lenna
Being indulged by such a Commander, it’s hard for me NOT to rely on and long for you.
(With one hand still holding down the brim, Lenna uses her other hand to gently caress my face.)
(Through the furry hat, I can faintly feel her fingers brushing across my forehead and the tip of my nose.)
Lenna
I’ve carefully analyzed this for the past few days, Commander.
Lenna
When I miss Miss Kalin or Leva, my frame’s temperature and energy consumption don’t rise significantly.
Lenna
However, it’s a different story when it comes to you… Just like right now… my body’s getting warmer and warmer.
Lenna
All of this must be because you, Commander, are the most special person to me.
Commander
You must’ve spent a lot of time thinking this through. I’m really moved, Lenna.
Commander
If your frame needs any maintenance, just let me know.
Lenna
It’s not that my frame’s malfunctioning, Commander… You really are dense as a brick!
Commander
Pfffft. What do you wish me to do then, Lenna?
Commander
In return for your gift, I will do my best to satisfy any wish.
(Lenna finally helps me remove my hat.)
(I stretch my neck around and almost bump into Lenna’s face, making her already flushed cheeks blush even more.)
Lenna
Hmm. My wish is that you can always stay true to yourself, Commander.
Lenna
Though that does feel like going a little too easy on you… Ah, I think I know.
Lenna
It’s too late to back out now, Commander♪
Commander
What do you want to do?
(I deliberately put on an anxious look.)
Lenna
Can you hold me and hug me a little more? Just let me stay by your side like this a little longer.
(Lenna dives into my arms, her blushing cheeks brushing against me.)
(I instinctively rub her face.)
Commander
…it is a little warm.
Lenna
Told you it’s not about the temperature…
Lenna
Please focus on pampering me, Commander!
(Lenna grumbles brattily while burrowing deeper into my arms.)
(We keep embracing each other like that for a good while, until both our bodies are warm and Lenna is willing to let go.)
Lenna
Alright! You still have work to do, right, Commander?
Lenna
If you’re willing, please let me accompany you a little longer.
Lenna
I have experience as Miss Kalin’s assistant, so don’t worry about me interfering with your work. I just… want to see more of you. Hehe♪
Lenna
And not just for today—in the future too. Can I come see you more often?
(Lenna hops onto the closest chair next to me.)
Commander
You can do as you please. I’m always happy to have you around, Lenna.
(Hearing that, Lenna smiles contentedly.)
Lenna
You better be prepared for it then, Commander!
Lenna
I’m very clingy after all♪
