| Like all Kalashnikov rifles, AK-12 retained traditional Kalashnikov gas-operated long-stroke piston system with a rotating bolt, right side charging handle, behind the well magazine release. Differ from the early prototype AK-200 with it's quick change barrel, AK-12 features the free-floating barrel, meaning it is more accurate but the barrel cannot be replaced and the gun cannot be modified to fire other calibres. The 3-round hyper burst feature was also replaced by a 2-round burst in the finalized AK-12 model. Chambering the 5.45x39mm cartridge, AK-12 is able to reach an effective firing range of 600 metres, achieving a 700 rounds per minute cyclic rate of fire. It feeds from a 30-round box magazine, a 60-round casket magazine, it is also compatible with the RPK-16's 96-round drum magazine and the AK-74's magazine. | | Like all Kalashnikov rifles, AK-12 retained traditional Kalashnikov gas-operated long-stroke piston system with a rotating bolt, right side charging handle, behind the well magazine release.
