Trivia
The actual name of the sight itself is the 'SWORD' Multi-Weapon Sight. Developed by SAFRAN Sagem, it features an adjustable day/night 4x optical sight, an uncooled thermal imager with video sequence capture, and a laser rangefinder all combined into one sighting device. As a part of the FELIN combat system, modified FAMAS rifles compatible with the SWORD sight featured a control button, which let them cycle through the various sight functions. This was used to maximize the potential and usability of the FELIN system. An operator doesn't require the FELIN combat suit or and other related equipment to use the 'SWORD' Multi-Weapon sight; some FAMAS variants excluded the controllable second grip, and were known as FAMAS 'Valorisé' or "upgraded".
- Despite its size, the actual weight is around 1.2 lbs or 0.544 kg, which is lighter than a Vietnam-Era AN/PVS-2 Small Starlight Night Vision Scope.
- Technically, the SWORD Multi-Weapon Sight capable of being attached to all assault/sniper rifles, or to machine guns with a mounting rail on them, and is not limited to the FAMAS Valorisé only.
