Sol Story Profile Quotes

Career[edit]

The EG series is a line of combat-type technician Dolls developed by 42Lab. These dolls are built with military-grade hardware and combat capabilities, and each is coded with the professional knowledge of assistant researchers in various fields of study.

EG4.0 is a model specially developed for scientific research work in extremely dangerous environments. These Dolls are designed to protect scientific research teams during their research in various places, and to provide technical assistance when it's necessary to complete tasks that require a certain level of professional knowledge. The reliable performance and friendly personality of these dolls have been well received by the scientific research teams they've worked with.

As a Doll developed by 42Lab, Sol was among the first dolls selected to participate in the testing of Neural Cloud.

Doll Profile 1[edit]

Despite having the title of a technician doll, Sol herself has no interest in tech-related affairs. Most of the combat-type technician dolls would aim to improve their technical skills; if they could pass the designated tests, they will have an opportunity to become researchers, with a safer working environment and a lesser workload.

Only Sol did the exact opposite. Even when she had the opportunity to participate in scientific research projects, she always prioritized projects where she could polish her combat skills. That was how she met Persicaria.

In the "Optimization of Doll's Self-learning Mechanism" project, Persicaria had updated and iterated Sol's neural system, so that she could record the data of each training and battle in more detail, and adjust the parameters of her body accordingly. Since then, Sol had spent all her off time in the training ground, thinking only about how to improve her combat prowess even more.

Once the scientific researchers she was familiar with offered to tutor her, wanting to help her out of the dangerous job she had as soon as possible, but Sol turned them down. She was quite happy with her position.

"We will always need someone to be able to fight, right? I'll be that someone! I will protect you all."

Doll Profile 2[edit]

Sol acts with a mature mannerism on most occasions, especially during fights. Her imposing figure on the battlefield evokes an inexplicable sense of reassurance in many.

With her friends, however, Sol is just a hot-blooded overgrown kid. Her two High-Voltage Taser Blades, named "Arvak" and "Alsvid", are perfect proofs of that.

"Hey, check out the names of my blades! Cool, aren't they?"
"Huh? So those are the names of two horses from mythology stories?"
"It doesn't matter! Cavalry horses are cool too, haha! Arvak, Alsvid! Charge forwards like the cavalry you are!"
"Uh... It won't light up now? Ahaha... I'm sorry, you're not done fixing them yet, right? Sorry, I got a bit too excited."

Doll Profile 3[edit]

The main characteristic that sets Sol apart from the ordinary combat dolls is how she never gives up. Most combat dolls entirely depend on their data module's calculations to make decisions in times of crisis. Once the chance of winning is determined to drop below a certain threshold, they will choose to retreat. Or in human terms, they only fight the fights they can win.

But Sol was different. Sol never learned to admit defeat, and she never backed off from any opponent. Perhaps she was reckless, but this recklessness defined her. That's why she could protect her team members from death several times, and that's why she was always able to fight a way out of the most desperate situations with her team.

Doll Profile 4[edit]

Right before taking part in the testing of Project Neural Cloud, Sol completed her last escort mission and bid farewell to the scientific research team. As she was packing up to leave in her dormitory, Sol found herself surrounded by a group of people—all of them from the various teams she had worked with in her city.

They "kidnapped" Sol and took her to a hotel, where they were hosting a farewell party prepared for Sol.

At the farewell party, people who had worked together with her in various scientific research teams gave her gifts one after another. If she ever felt like leaving 42Lab, she would always be welcomed to join their teams again, they said. They valued Sol because she had saved their lives, and more importantly because of her light-hearted and carefree personality. Sol had won their affection with her charisma, not her combat prowess.

Among all the gifts she received that day, Sol's favorite was a bottled firefly. The warm orange light it emitted was faint, but it dispelled a little bit of darkness nevertheless. Although she had released the firefly right after the farewell party, she kept the small bottle around her neck, as if she could still feel that tiny bit of warm light in this way.

Doll Profile 5[edit]

After learning about Project Neural Cloud from Persicaria, Sol volunteered to join the test. She uploaded herself to the cloud for a simple goal—to become stronger.

Project Neural Cloud created backups of Dolls' Neural Clouds. If the plan went well, Sol would have infinite lives like in the video games on the cloud, and then she could fight without any worries. Death would no longer be a threat to Sol; it would only be her chance to become stronger—which was especially true since she had no pain sensory system.

The fact that Sol could not feel pain was not known by many. She did not want to make her companions worry about her in battle because of this. She didn't feel her injuries as much as the ordinary Dolls, which enabled her to always push forward fearlessly, to the point of having been injured to the verge of death several times. She worried about her companions more than herself—she always fought for others rather than herself.

If Project Neural Cloud turned out to be a success, then she would become a stronger protector as long as she overcame her insignificant fear of death. According to her, that was the best decision she could ever make.
