Suomi KP/-31, would stand for Machine-Pistol Finland (Suomi-konepistooli), often just known as the Suomi KP, this particular firearm would be classified as a SMG under modern definitions. Designed in 1921, revealed to the public in 1925 and officially entered service with the Finnish army in 1931. While the rest of the world was suffering from the Second World War, Finland was facing a different enemy alone at northern Europe, Suomi KP accompanied Finland from the Winter War, Interim Peace, Continuation War and until finally the signing of the Moscow Armistice.
Suomi KP operates on a simple blow-back mechanism, often fed by it's large 71 round drum magazine loaded with 9x19mm Parabellum/Luger cartridge, this SMG is capable of firing up to a rate of 900 rounds per minute, able to cover an effective range of 200 metres. The most innovative feature on the KP is the "open-jaw" magazine well, which allows the use of a Swedish pattern double staggered-row magazine (coffin clip), as well as the usual staggered-row clip for 20 rounds on top of the standard drum magazine. Other known features such as having single wood block as the gun frame and the stock, air cooled barrel and right side shell ejection port.
Suomi KP's derivatives include the famous Soviet PPSh-41 and the Degtyaryov's DDP-40, both are developed based on the Suomi KP units captured by the Red Army with their advancements into Finnish territories. It is likely due to them being being rush produced to adapt to the new war tactics, their performance is still below that of a Suomi KP, their predecessor showed a better accuracy rating thanks to it's longer barrel while having with the same large magazine capacity and high rate of fire.
Initially designed as a substitute to a light machine gun, but however the pistol cartridges could never cover the effective range of a LMG and thus it was proven inadequate for that task, instead through trials and adjustments Finnish Army developed the tactic of using Suomi KP as a support type weaponry alongside their rifle and machine guns.
Historical facts would suggest that Suomi KP was probably one of the most successful SMG of that era, being one of the first mobile weaponry with the fully automatic firepower of a LMG and having a better performance than all of it's derivatives. Due to the high production cost and some exporting of weapon prior to the war, the Finnish Army was armed with only 4,000 units of Suomi KP when the Winter War broke out in 1939. At the time the also poorly equipped, ill mobilized Red Army never expected a light mobile weapon with a high fire power like the Suomi, resulted in heavy Red Army casualties during the Winter War.
Character Info
Design
The first character Anmi contributed to Girls Frontline, Suomi features the typical Nordic blonde hair with blue eyes. The cloak she wears was designed with reference to Finnish army uniform during the Winter War. Anmi comments that her knee high socks was meant to be black, but under the advice of Phantania-san it was changed to white.
To celebrate Suomi receiving a CV, Anmi has drawn a special image of Suomi holding a microphone in her Twitter post, likely to represent Suomi's personal interest in music and/or Toyosaki's fame in her music making career. Toyosaki Aki is well known for her performance as the CV of Hirasawa Yui of K-On!, other than the anime Toyosaki also have several songs released as singles and albums.
Personality
Official character setting for Suomi states that she is a T-doll with a serious personality and a strong sense of duty, in normal everyday life she is less mature, more innocent than most T-dolls, not very skilled with her speech and phrasing. She highly dislikes all Soviet and Russian guns due to the history between Finland and Russia, even hold grudges against the modern Soviet/Russian weaponry.
Suomi is a massive fan of metal music, as evident by many quotations and the Christmas skin background story. Just like the typical behaviour of a Finnish person, Suomi would like others to remain a reasonable distance away from her.
In-game
High magnitude evasion rating boost combined with short skill cool down and a relatively large HP pool, Suomi is one of the best SMG tank in the game, though she is also known to be one of the rarest T-dolls in game.
During the invasion of my homeland, I stepped into the fray as the most spectacular assault weapon, with the superior tactics of our soldiers, we dealt a decisive blow to the invaders. The high production cost is the source of my frustrations, but this reflects upon the attentions paid to details from our people. I will to be their pride and joy.
