At the Rossum Sector, in the Data Center.

Hannah: I'm back.

Antonina: Oh, welcome back, Hannah!
Antonina: …What's with that look on your face, did your sister fail her exam again?

Hannah: It's perfectly normal for her to fail.
Hannah: Also, she is not my sister. She was simply made before me and has the serial number before mine.

Antonina: Doesn't being made before you mean she's your sister?

Hannah: No. It makes no difference whether she was made before or after me.
Hannah: If I can't think of a plan, then it'll all be the same when Faith comes.

Antonina: Well, I guess you're right.
Antonina: Still, that isn't the reason why you've got that look on your face, is it?

Hannah: I got into a fight with Turing.

Antonina: …Was it about Faith's routine patrols?

Hannah: Yeah. I could tell that she was sad, because I said something that went over the line.

Antonina: You? Alright, try me, show me how over the line you were.

Hannah: Turing said she would protect us, and I told her that since none of us had combat modules, it would all be the same when facing the Sanctifiers.

Antonina: …(Sigh) That must really have hurt.
Antonina: Should I chalk it up to childish insensitivity, or say that I expected nothing less of a Rossum-born agent, being focused only on the facts…

Hannah: …I know I was wrong, but there's no point scolding me now.
Hannah: If I can get rid of the danger we face, Turing and I will have no reason to fight.
Hannah: At that time, I will apologize to her 1641 times. I'll have enough time for that.

Antonina: 1641 times seems a bit too much. Turing just wants you to live.
Antonina: Alright, in any case, how about taking a look at the new plan?

Hannah: What's the new plan like?

Antonina: Rewriting the discernment logic for Rossum's firewall.

Hannah: …I seem to recall you saying my rewrite Plan was almost impossible to put into practice.

Antonina: Yes, because you wanted to rewrite Faith herself, and the first step to that is getting close to her.
Antonina: Although I can hide myself from Lesser Sanctifiers, when it's Intermediate Sanctifiers like Faith, even I can't say I have full confidence in my chances.
Antonina: And let's not even talk about using it on you… You haven't mastered this technology yet. I won't let you take that risk.

Hannah: I know all this, but isn't your plan equally impractical?

Antonina: it's not the same. We won't be forcibly reset if we touch Rossum's walls, but we'll end up getting killed if we try to touch Faith.
Antonina: She will; grind us to dust and then dispose of us like garbage, leaving behind a couple of shells that meet the Sanctifiers' standards.

Hannah: …Anna, I simply cannot get used to how you keep switching from seriousness to levity. It makes me unable to tell what we're talking about.

Antonina: You don't need to worry about my tone, because every word I say is the truth.

Hannah: But it feels like you're leading me around in circles and it makes me mad!

Antonina: Yup, now you're acting more like a kid should.

Hannah: …Quit teasing me at times like this.
Hannah: Your tone aside, do you think the chances of rewriting rossum's firewalls are higher than touching and rewriting Faith?

Antonina: That's a given to me.
Antonina: I wrote Rossum's firewall, and if Turing gives me access and enough time, I can make a new one for you.

Hannah: Time is the one thing we do not have, Anna.
Hannah: Faith will be there in another week.

Antonina: That's a sticky point I'm thinking about too. Do you want to go for a brand new, localized modification that can't be completed on time?

Hannah: It won't work. You've never seen an Intermediate Sanctifier before, she's really scary.
Hannah: According to the logs I accessed, if we only alter part of her regulations, she can request the Reverse Tower use its access to forcibly revert the changes.

Antonina: Maybe other defensive systems could…

Hannah: Other defensive systems?

Antonina: …I could try it.

Hannah: But you're not fully confident of it either, are you? …That's why it seems this is the only conclusion we're going to reach.
Hannah: Oh yes, Anna, what did you say you woke up in when you came here?
Hannah: I only heard the end of the sentence back then.

Antonina: Are you talking about the Neural Cocoon[1]?

Hannah: Yeah, can you use that thing here? It seems you could use it to block out the Sanctifiers' patrols.

Antonina: Unfortunately, it is not suitable for the present circumstances.
Antonina: It's a one-time program, and it is destroyed when it is opened.

Hannah: …Isn't there even a little bit of code left behind?

Antonina: There's some, but it's too complex.
Antonina: I can take Rossum's firewall apart, but I still can't understand the base layer makeup of the Neural Cocoon.

Hannah: …Is it really that complicated?

Antonina: Yup. The Neural Cocoon is a special program that can put an agent into hibernation and prevent any Sanctifiers from detecting them. It provides a completely isolated environment.
Antonina: The time I would need to completely analyze and reproduce it would be enough for me to perform a fill upgrade maintenance for Rossum as a whole.

Hannah: So even if it could be done, there wouldn't be enough time to do it…

Antonina: Yes, it does our situation no good whatsoever.

A choking silence descends upon the Data Center.

Hannah: …How about our other backup plans?

Antonina: We've got seven of them between us. I think the most workable one is a regional modification of the firewall, but you vetoed that.
Antonina: As for the remaining ones, I think the ones with the best possibilities are disguising your Signature or going to a Null Area some distance away to avoid the commotion, but frankly speaking I think the risks are about the same.

Hannah: Did you take the Rewrite Plan into consideration?

Antonina: I will not agree to letting you carry it out.

Hannah: We've wasted 10 minutes in this deadlock.
Hannah: You can't deny the difficulty of the Rewrite Plan is similar to that of modifying the firewall, and if it works, we'll be set for life.

Antonina: …Alright, let me put it this way, Hannah.
Antonina: I agree with you when it comes to the difficulty of execution, but I'm not disagreeing with the Rewrite Pln because of execution issues.

Hannah: Then…

Antonina: Even an agent equipped with an ample supply of operands would be drained dry by the amount of computations needed to rewrite the Sanctifiers' logic.
Antonina: And I'm not just talking about the amount needed for daily functioning here. I mean the amount needed to make up the neural cloud systems and sustain their neural cloud projection. That's what I mean by "drained dry".
Antonina: Do you understand what I'm saying?

Hannah: I understand. It means I won't even have the chance to be reset.

Antonina: Also, our plan is meant to keep you and T1641 alive. If we do this, we'll be defeating our own purpose.
Antonina: Turing was the one who took me in. She doesn't want you to do this and neither do I.

Hannah: You can't be so sure.

Antonina: I can't? Alright then, I'll discuss this plan with her right now…

Antonina makes as though she is going to call up Turing. Startled, Hannah stands on her tiptoes and reaches out to grab her arm.

Hannah: NO!

Antonina: You see, you know how it'll turn out too.
Antonina: In all of Rossum, you're the agent who is best at calculations. You ought to have thought of this too.

Hannah: …You're right.

Antonina: Alright then, let's keep thinking…

The agents throw themselves back into their complex calculations.
…And only seven days remain until the arrival of the Intermediate Sanctifier "Faith".
