Career[edit]
The SRT-8 emergency rescue Doll was developed by Svarog Heavy Industries. It was primarily intended for rescue and obstacle-clearing operations in earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters. Due to being frequently deployed in highly hazardous environments, the SRT-8 was advertised with "reliable and durable" as a core marketing concept. Even after sustaining moderate damage, it could be re-deployed into use after simple repairs, a fact which earned it much acclaim from municipal and private emergency responder agencies. In addition, the SRT-8 featured a great deal of function expandability, allowing it to quickly swap or add necessary functional modules to suit the needs of their assignments, such as the ability to operate large electrical cutters, heavy engineering exoskeletons, and so on.
Cascadia began her service with the Federal Emergency Search and Rescue Agency in 2057, where she demonstrated a great deal of professional aptitude and saved many lives in multiple SAR operations. Following that, she was transferred to various other organizations, where she carried out more disaster relief missions, and in 2059, Cascadia was selected to join Project Neural Cloud.
Doll Profile 1[edit]
As the name suggests, the SRT-8 is the 8th generation of the SRT series, which was originally developed in the 40s by the engineering company Gaterbillar as a multi-legged vehicle for use in disaster relief work. After WW3 broke out, Gaterbillar was acquired and restructured, and further development of the SRT line halted for a while. 2052 saw the introduction of the SRT-5, which was based on early military Doll frames. Although it was comparatively more versatile than its multi-legged vehicle ancestors, history would prove that the SRT-5 was overly adventurous and few people were willing to purchase it. Its successors, the SRT-6 and 7, corrected the flaws of their predecessors, and the SRT series once again regained its place of pride in the industry.
The SRT-8 was the first attempt at a "summary" design of all the improvements that had been made since the line had gone from multi-legged rescue walkers to Dolls. Thanks to improvements in mechanical engineering, the SRT-8 is more easily repaired than its predecessors and features an unprecedented degree of functional expandability. Ever since its rollout in 2057, the SRT-8 has enjoyed much commercial success.
Doll Profile 2[edit]
The name "Cascadia" is derived from the geological region and plate subduction zone of the same name located off the Pacific Shore. It is famous for being an earthquake-prone region and the source of many geological terms. Captain Franklin of the Federal Emergency Search and Rescue Agency was born in the Cascadia region of Oregon, which had been devastated long ago by ELID. While it is said that he had given the newly-inducted SRT-8 Doll on his team this name due to her primary role and function, it is also possible he had done so out of longing for his long-vanished hometown.
Cascadia's first mission after entering service was an earthquake-wrecked village located deep in the mountains. Due to the great age of the homes there, the community had suffered severe damage despite the relatively low intensity of the temblor. Upon arriving on the scene of her maiden operation, Cascadia was shaken by the devastation wrought upon the landscape, and from then on she made up her mind; no matter how terrible the disaster before her, she would hold off the Grim Reaper as best as she could.
Doll Profile 3[edit]
Shortly after entering service, Cascadia showed her immaturity in certain aspects. Her strong ego and convictions made her stand out in a paramilitary organization, and this was not always a good thing. She would get into disputes with her colleagues and even her superiors due to circumventing operational plans. At times, she would insist on doing things her own way and rely on her own experience and courage rather than plans prepared ahead of time. This was not viewed in a good light even though these improvisations had worked out for the best.
"I think it's better to obey orders and work carefully rather than rush in recklessly. That's the best way to avoid unforeseen complications," one of Cascadia's colleagues said about her in exasperation. "Still, she's always won her bets. Maybe that's because Dolls make their decisions with logic and reason as their guide."
After several incidents, Cascadia gradually became more cautious, but her tendency to work in bold yet measured ways never truly disappeared. Or rather, she became a little more mature, and everyone became more able to tolerate this quirk—or rather, this advantage—of hers.
Doll Profile 4[edit]
Cascadia has many personal hobbies outside of work, and she is a textbook "machine otaku".
She spends her free time in the machine shop modifying and tinkering with various mechanical devices, including her bosom companion, the demolition mecha-hound called "Slo-Mo". Initially, "Slo-Mo" was only equipped with basic intelligence functions, but after repairs following severe damage in a rescue operation, Cascadia made an extremely simplified copy of her own neural cloud and grafted it onto "Slo-Mo". As a result, it became more intelligent, though occasionally a little disobedient. According to Cascadia, she and Slo-Mo, "are of one mind".
In addition, Cascadia is also skilled at less mainstream skills such as motorcycle and truck repair, radio modification and even outdoors cooking, which is a side of her that can only be gradually discovered after spending much time with her.
Doll Profile 5[edit]
It is bleakly ironic that Cascadia immediately gained a chance to apply her "professional knowledge" upon arriving at the Oasis. When she saw the devastation wrought by the Entropic invasion—the same fallen buildings, cracked ground, and never-ending wails of the wounded that she had witnessed many times before in her career—she did not wait to be officially welcomed to the Oasis like most of her compatriots. Instead, she picked her way through the debris, crossing battlefields with her partner "Slo-Mo" and helped as many wounded as she could find along the way. Though she did not understand the full details of what was going on, such as "What are these Entropics?" and "What are the Exiles?", she still bore witness to the end of the ordeal that had befallen the Oasis.
Her welcome ceremony was simple and conducted in an emergency shelter. She had no complaints about it, however. After all, such places were like a home away from home to her. All she said was, "Aw, I just did what I could. Let's get along from now on!"
The agents she rescued gathered outside the shelter to thank their newly arrived helper.
"Thank you very much! What's your name?"
"Just call me Cascadia!"
