Prototype machinegun develop by General Dynamics, a gas-operated, long-stroke piston with a rotating bolt machinegun that chambers the .338 calibre rounds (.338 Norma by default, but can be converted to fire .338 Lapua.), able to provide fire support at an effective range of 1700 metres at a fire rate of 500 rounds per minute. LWMMG also features quick-change barrel and collapsible stock, picatinny rails to improve modularity.
LWMMG was designed to fill the fire support gap between 7.62mm and .50 calibre machineguns, especially to provide more effective fire support and penetration of cover at a range 7.62mm rounds(mostly those fired from a M240) can not effectively cover, all while remain more mobile than a .50 calibre machinegun.
