The Remington R5 RGP (Remington Gas Piston) is a 5.56x45mm NATO carbine that was designed and manufactured by Remington Arms. R5 primarily refers the monolithic upper receiver that contains the short-stroke gas piston system, of which actuate the rifle's cycle. The usage of gas piston instead of direct impingement is an attempt to improve the reliability of the weapon, R5 is one of many AR-15/M16 style rifles that make use a gas piston operating system. R5 RGP was introduced around 2010.
