The artist 木shiyo commented on the design inspiration for both Type 95 and her sister {{doll name|Type 97|AR|5}} on the official ''Girls' Frontline'' art book:
The colour theme for the two sisters are was decided long ago, the older sister will have has the white/blue combination to represent her maturity while the black/red combination is was given to Type 97 to represent her activeness.
Clear contradiction of colours represents their contradicting character settings. The costume is designed with reference to the servicing uniforms, though the cloak and stockings are modified products, the skirt is also made shorter.
Type 95's outfit have has blue ribbons incorporated into the design, the shoulder badge is also a modified version of the previous Norinco logo, the gloves badge had the People's Liberation Army logo prior to removal.
Type 95's costume layering design has been posted to 木shiyo's Pixiv page.<ref>[https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=59431645 Artist Pixiv post (marked as R-18)]</ref>
