A selective fire battle rifle developed by Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG) during the Cold War, entered service with the Swiss Army after development, it's service continued till 1990.
Operates on a roller-delayed blowback mechanism, Feeding on the 24-round box magazine, SG 510 is able fire at a rate up to 600 rounds per minutes, capable of reaching up to 800 metres of effective firing range with appropriate optics. SIG 510 is primarily chambered with the 7.5×55mm GP 11 cartridge, later developed variants can cope with firing of other cartridge namely the 7.62x51mm NATO.
Forearm grip of the SG 510 is located near the receiver group, bipod units is integrated into the weapon near the muzzle end of the 583mm long barrel. Muzzle break is added to reduce recoil, the same muzzle can also mount bayonet and launch rifle grenades. Fixed butt-stock is integrated with buffer unit to further reduce the recoil felt by the operator.
After retiring from service many SG 510 units are refitted to semi-automatic firing only and sold to civilian market for gun enthusiasts, hunters and sport marksmen alike. <ref name="wikipedia"></ref>.
