i do, a fix
M16A1 rifle classifies as a 5.56mm calibre, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed assault rifle, with a rotating bolt. The rifle uses the direct-impingement from Eugene Stoner's AR-15 rifle. Several improvements were made from the original model 604 rifles, such as the redesigned bolt carrier, the introduction of a forward-assist, a new bird-cage style flash suppressor. Other ergonomic features were also added, such as the slightly larger hollowed out fiberglass buttstock for cleaning kits, grooving ribs on the receiver preventing magazine release being accidentally pressed and covering newly designed 'take-down screw' spring mechanisms. The most important change was the chrome plated bore as well as bolt carrier, after changing out the bore assembly the rifle's malfunction rate declined and the early problems experienced by M16 subsided, improving the overall performance of the rifle in tropical environments.
Other features on the rifle includes the rear aperture fixed on the carrying handle, can be flipped and adjusted between two sizes, front iron sight is fixed on the post above the barrel and in front of the triangular hand guard, mounting of optics would have to be directly attached to the carrying handle. Selective fire handle can be found on the left side of the receiver, toggles between semi and fully automatic fires. M16A1 rifle was widely deployed with the 20-round capacity aluminium box magazine, however a 30-round capacity magazine were also developed and deployed in limited numbers by the deployment final stage of the rifleVietnam conflict, eventually US military would step up to standardise the 30-round capacity magazines for all servicing M16 rifles and made make it into the classification of NATO STANAGmagazine. The 40mm M203 grenade launcher introduced in 1969 was also designed to be a permanently fixed under the triangular hand guard unit.
Eventually A1 models would retire from the role of the standard service rifle, M16A1 was replaced by the M16A2 model by 1980. Retired surplus units would be sold to both domestic firearm enthusiasts market and foreign exports. Many other nations would also use M16A1 rifles as their standard service rifle.
