Weapon Background

Selective fire, roller-delayed, blowback-operated general-purpose machinegun type fire arm developed by Heckler & Koch. HK23(A1/E) is a modernized version of HK 21, the predecessor general-purpose machinegun developed based on G3 by the same company. HK23 uses 5.56x45mm NATO munition instead of 7.62x51mm, this model of general-purpose machinegun was marketed for export, especially to contest for US Armed forces service contract, though the contract ended up going to M249 SAW.
