Weapon Background edit
The G41 is a German 5.56×45mm NATO assault rifle introduced in 1981 and produced in limited quantities by Heckler & Koch. It was designed to replace the Heckler & Koch G3 and the HK33, and provide a more modern weapon that conformed to the NATO standards of the day. The G41 would be the last Heckler & Koch service rifle designed around the roller-delayed blowback mechanism.
Throughout the 1970's, Heckler & Koch were engaged in a major engineering project to develop the G11 caseless ammunition-firing rifle. Their hope was that this experimental rifle would eventually become the new German standard infantry weapon, replacing the G3 rifle then still in service. While their time and attention was spent primarily on the G11, development of a more conventional rifle would sort of take a backseat. Their main offering for the 5.56x45mm rifle market at the time was the HK33, a rechambered version of the 7.62x51mm G3 developed by Tilo Moller, which was introduced back in 1965. The HK33, however, used a proprietary HK magazine and was not compatible with the M16’s magazines, which were quickly becoming a standard among NATO nations. In 1977, as NATO rifle trials began and it became clear that 5.56x45mm would be adopted as the alliance's standard intermediate cartridge, H&K began to develop what would become the G41.[1]
The G41 would be designed around the same roller-delayed blowback system as found in the G3, HK33, and MP5. However, the G41 would feature a number of design elements inspired by the American M16 rifle: the magazine release on the left side of the magazine well, an ambidextrous fire selector (with positions for safe, semi-auto, 3-round burst, and full auto), and a forward assist that can ensure the bolt is closed. The lower receiver was also modified to take M16 STANAG pattern magazines. As a result of modifying the receiver for the new magazine, the rifle also featured a last round bolt hold open device. In addition to these mechanical additions, the triangular black polymer handguard is very reminiscent of the M16. The barrel of the G41 comes with a flash suppressor, which can serve as a mount for both rifle grenades and G3 issue bayonets.[2]
The G41 was designed to be a more modern rifle than the aging G3, and was therefore designed to be more compatible with NATO-issued equipment. For mounting optics, an operator can either chose to use the H&K proprietary clamp mount adaptor or the Picatinny rail on top of the receiver. The front grip of the G41 can also mount a bipod or 40mm grenade launcher (namely the HK79 units), though mounting of the grenade launcher will require the replacement of the synthetic foregrip completely.
The collapse of the Soviet Union and the subsequent reunification of Germany saw federal budgets stretched, and the G11 program was subsequently abandoned just as the rifle was about to enter into service with the Bundeswehr. The German Armed Forces still needed a suitable rifle to replace the G3, however, and in the 1990s sought a new lightweight modern rifle. HK felt that their HK50 project was a better bet than the heavier G41, and following Bundeswehr trials the HK50, renamed the G36, was subsequently adopted in 1997. After this, H&K would market the G41 to other potential buyers. Commercially, the G41 was not as successful as preceding Heckler & Koch service rifle designs with a similar operating mechanism. It was rejected by various military trails programs and it never won a major military production contract.[3]
Character Design
G41 is a T-Doll designed with animal elements. The artist of G41, NS, made a couple of comments regarding G41's design in the 'Official Art Book of Girls' Frontline'.[4]
Apparently, her hair ornament is a reference to the Xbox 360 console. It turns red upon receiving critical damage to symbolize the red ring of death. (顺便头发上的俩求来自X一圈,大破会三红掉。)
NS doesn't know exactly what type of animal she is suppose to be. NS comments: "Most importantly I don't even know whether she is a cat a dog or a fox, lololololololol...(最 关 键 的 一 点 是 我 也 不 知 道 是 猫 是 狗 是 狐 狸 233333333333333333333333333333……[sic])."
She appears to have heterochromia, with a blue right eye and red left eye. The red eye appears to be some form of targeting system (crosshair), however, which deactivates during her victory animation and while she is sitting down in a dorm.
