Weapon Background
Commercial export variant of the servicing QCW-05 SMG used by the People's Liberation Army/People's Armed Police, JS signifies the designing company Jianshe Industries, while the number 9 indicates the weapon's 9mm calibre, JS 9 is also known as CS/LS2. Service name QCW is an acronym of pinyin, signifies the weapon is a SMG and low noise, similar to QCW-05, JS 9 classifies as a bullpup SMG/PDW with integrated suppressor. As an export version the chambering calibre is changed to the more globally accepted 9x19mm rather than the Chinese 5.8x21mm, the weapon is fed by 9mm magazine that are compatible and interchangeable with MP5 SMGs.[1]
Character Design
JS 9 appears visually similar to SMG Type 79Type 79Type 79, including the same hair/eye colour, similar style gear/equipment/clothing, and design features including but not limited to synthetic limbs, hairbands, and hair style. Though JS 9's hair is a lot longer and fluffier than Type 79. Both characters are designed by the same artist.
The visual similarity is likely due to both of these weapons (Actually the original QCW model) being used the as the main SMG weapon for the PLA. The Type 79 in Girls Frontline is actually an extremely modified and modernised version of the original Type 79, although QCW-05 is to replace Type 79 from the army, the process will likely be slow, the phased out Type 79s are being modified and given to PAP and SWAT teams. The two SMGs are used in similar roles, this may be the answer to their similar visual appearance.[2]

Trivia
- Despite the artist getting the fact JS 9 uses MP5 style magazines, even getting the different magazine catch, charging handle cut outs, and screws/pins right for the final production model. It is missing either charging handle.[3]
- It should have been named CS/LS2, its official designation as the drawing is based on the final production model rather than any of the prototypes with the given name.
- On CN Servers it was planned to reward JS 9 to players after matching 8 lines during the "Mid Autumn Guardian" event on the 22nd of September 2018 through 12th October 2018. However due to server instability, the event itself was cancelled on the 23rd of September 2018. JS 9 and all event related rewards are given out to players via daily login reward type system between October 3rd till October 23rd 2018 instead.
