Weapon Background
MG4 is the current 5.56 calibre general-purpose LMG in service with Bundeswehr, official product/project name from the designing company H&K would be HK123. Developed in the late 1990s and was first seen publicly in 2001, officially entered service as infantry squad level support weapon and vehicle top mount/coaxial MG in 2005. Aside from the service with Bundeswehr, MG4 is also exported to countries such as Turkey and Portugal, special forces such as the Estonian ESTOSF and the Malaysian PASKAL also purchased and adopted MG4 variants into service, MG4 will also be replacing the CETME Ameli from the Spanish army service. Other than the main production variant, MG4 also have an export variant MG4E, a shorter barrel MG4K (Kurz) and the exporting short barrel model MG4KE.
The MG4 is an air-cooled, belt-fed gas-operated rotating bolt action light machine gun, MG4 is able to achieve a cyclic rate of fire of 890 rounds per minute, the shorter barrel and export models have the fire rate reduced. MG4 measures 1050mm with the adjustable stock fully extended, the barrel is 480mm in length, with the 920m/s muzzle velocity, MG4 is able to cover up to 1000m of effective firing range. Shorter barrel variants only have a 402mm long barrel instead, which resulted in a lower muzzle velocity and shorter effective range.
The disintegrating munition belt of MG4 feeds the weapon from the left side of the receiver via an enhanced pawl mechanism, spent belt are ejected directly right while the empty shell is ejected downwards after exiting the right side ejection port. Munition belt can be chained to any length needed, MG4 operators will have access to large capacity ammo pouches/backpacks or specially designed drum magazines that attaches on the left side of the receiver. MG4 has a hammer-forged quick-change barrel that can be safely exchanged when hot without the need for protective gloves.
Picatinny rail placement can be found on top of the receiver, user can mount compatible optics should it be issued, default iron sights are available when optics are not. German Army servicing models have a telescopic sights with 3x magnification that also functions as a carrying handle. Additional rail placements can be found on the side of the barrel above the integrated bipod, for mounting other combat accessories. Other small detail feature including the weapon's cleaning kit being able to fit inside the adjustable stock and a build in tripod lug for tripod mounted firing.[1]
Character Design
MG4 is rather short and petite for a MG carrying T-doll, using the weapon as reference and assuming it is drawn to size, MG4 measures no more than 130cm in body height, making her one of the shortest character in the game.
Long silver hair tightened in two lose ponies, MG4 can be identified by her golden coloured iris and the V-shaped hair clip.
The artist neco commented on MG4's design on the official art book of Girls' Frontline:[2]
MG4's design are inspired by the Bundeswehr uniforms, also wanting to deliver a cute loli type character that doesn't quite fit a weapon's description, out it comes MG4.(MG4的设计思路是由制造国的德国军服转换而来的,同时还想要表现出与枪相反的萝莉的反差萌,于是就有了现在的MG4。)
The T-doll sprite is using a Bundeswehr issue MG4 as evident from the telescopic sights carrying handle, but both the default art and Survival Club costume does not have that attachment and the Picatinny rail is exposed.
