The OTs-12 'Tiss' (ОЦ-12 Тисс, or "Yew Tree") was an experimental carbine developed in the early 1990s by TsKIB COO in Russia.

The OTs-12 is essentially a remodeled AKS-74U designed to chamber the 9x39mm sub-sonic round. When compared to the AKS-74U, the OTs-12 differs only in the bolt, barrel, muzzle-brake, and magazine, with every other feature being practically identical. It features a gas-operated rotating bolt, a right-side charging handle, and a magazine release behind the well just like all Kalashnikov derivative firearms. The 'Tiss' is fed with a specially-designed 20-round box magazine, and is able to achieve a rate of fire of 800 rounds per minute. The 20-round box magazine was designed so that it would be compatible with standard current-issue ammo pouches. A larger 25-round magazine was planned before the OTs-12 project's cancellation.

In 1993, a few hundred OTs-12 carbines were built and delivered to the Russian Internal Troops for evaluation. The weapon trial was less a demonstration of the OTs-12 itself, but rather a demonstration of the 9x39mm cartridge, and its effectiveness in close-quarter urban combat compared to the standard 5.45x39mm M74 ammo. OTs-12 production would be cancelled later that year due to a lack of interest in the weapon itself, though it performed excellently during the trial and was cheaper to produce than the more specialized AS Val. At the time of the OTs-12's debut, there were just too many other weapons using the 9×39mm caliber round, such as 9A-91 and SR-3 Vikhr. These weapons were more compact and weighed less than a default AKS-74U chassis, and performed just as well. As an experimental firearm, Tiss (as she is sometimes referred to in the community) was produced in small quantities and very rarely used. The hearing protection headset and plastic goggles she is wearing suggests that she was a laboratory project, meaning the T-Doll was likely designed with this concept in mind. Using the weapon as a comparison, Tiss' body height is probably around 140 to 150cm. Despite being a product made after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the character design of Tiss still incorporates many Soviet symbols, such as the Hammer and Sickle imprint on her thigh high socks/stockings, the Hammer and Sickle badge on her collar and beret, the star-shaped imprint on her tie, and various star-shaped hair ornaments.

Work on the weapon started in the early 1990s. Basically a rechambering and reworking of the more conventional AKS-74U assault carbine, it differs only in the bolt, barrel, muzzle-brake, and magazine. The 20-round box magazine was designed so that it would be compatible with standard current-issue ammo pouches but a larger 25-round magazine was rumored.

In 1993 a few hundred were built and delivered to the Russian Internal Troops for evaluation. They performed excellently, with the subsonic round showing superior penetration of cover at short and medium ranges (200–300 m) when compared to the 5.45x39mm. Still, the OC-12 didn't go into mass-production and was discontinued later that year<ref name="wiki"></ref>.
