The AK-Alfa semi-automatic rifle is developed by Kalashnikov USA. It is a US-based subsidiary of Despite sharing the name, Kalashnikov USA shares no relation to the Russian Kalashnikov Concern and official importer of the , though they did import Kalashnikov Concern products to before the United Statessanctions. This weapon was reportedly designed by a group of Israeli engineers. It is named after the Russian Alfa special forces team. It was planned that production of the Alfa will be established in the United States in order to overcome sanctions imposed on the Kalashnikov Concern. The AK-Alfa semi-automatic rifle is aimed at civilian customers. A pre-production prototype of this weapon was first publicly revealed in 2016.
The AK-Alfa is an interesting attempt to upgrade the ergonomics and handling characteristics of the famous Kalashnikov AK-type weapons, while maintaining their remarkable reliability and simplicity of use. It must be noted that official representatives of the Russian Kalashnikov Concern provided no comments about this weapon. However it should also be noted that the core components of the current AK-Alfa prototypes are Russian-made Saiga carbines, produced by the Kalashnikov Concern.
