The VHS (Croatian: Višenamjenska Hrvatska Strojnica, English: Multifunctional Croatian Machine Gun") is a 5.56×45mm NATO bullpup assault rifle designed and manufactured by HS Produkt of Croatia. The VHS rifle was first introduced at the 2007 iKA exhibition, the annual Croatian innovation display that takes place in the city of Karlovac. The development of the rifle was the result of a request from the Croatian Army for a new infantry rifle to update their soldier's individual equipment to NATO standards.

The development of a new assault rifle for the Croatian military began in 1992, during the Croatian War of Independence, when HS Produkt (then called IM Metal) created a bullpup variant of the 7.62 mm Kalashnikov assault rifle. This rifle had a number of flaws, partly caused by the limited technological capabilities of IM Metal, but this initial project provided a valuable learning experience for the company. They would attempt another bullpup Kalashnikov design, this time a delayed blowback model, in the mid-1990s. But the results were still not satisfactory, and it was superseded by a design similar to the M16 rifle. More prototypes followed in 1996, 1999 and 2004.

In 2007, the first experimental batch of 50 rifles was issued to the Croatian Army supporting the ISAF in Afghanistan. Over the next few years, more than 3,000 rifles were issued to the Croatian Army for testing purposes. In 2009, Croatia’s Ministry of Defense officially signed a contract with HS Produkt for the acquisition of 1,000 rifles. As of 2015, the Croatian Army currently fields around 7,000 VHS rifles.

A new and improved version of the VHS rifle, known as the VHS-2, was introduced in April 2013. Despite external similarities, VHS-2 rifles include numerous modifications over the original VHS, the most notable of which being a buttstock with adjustable length of pull and the rifle being retooled for completely ambidextrous handling (including ejection windows on both sides). There are two basic patterns of VHS-2 infantry rifle: the standard-size VHS-D2 and the compact VHS-K2. The VHS-D2 features a large curved carry handle on the top of the rifle that features an integrated 1.5X telescope sight, while the VHS-K2 instead sports a top-mounted Picatinny rail for the mounting of other optics.<ref name = "vhs modernfirearms">[https://modernfirearms.net/en/assault-rifles/croatia-assault-rifles/vhs-2-eng/ Modern Firearms page on the VHS-2]</ref>

* While the T-Doll is named VHS, the gun that she's wielding is actually the VHS-2. It is unclear if this is an oversight on the artist's side or the developers themselves.

The development of the rifle was the result of a request from the Croatian Army for a new infantry rifle to update their soldier's individual equipment to NATO standards.[1]

The development cycle that ultimately led to the current version of the rifle started around 2003. This new prototype, externally quite similar to the French FAMAS, was publicly announced in 2005 and presented to the Croatian Minister of Defense. However, additional changes were requested, and the difference between the original 2004 prototype and the final production model that followed is more than 90%.

The VHS-D2 features a large curved carry handle on the top of the rifle that features an integrated 1.5X telescope sight, while the VHS-K2 instead sports a top-mounted Picatinny rail for the mounting of other optics.[2]

Character Background

She's a Doll who's skilled at learning and imitation. She easily loses herself in a world of her own and seems a little out of place to others, which is why she never gets close to other people. FAMAS is one of her few friends. Outside of combat, she enjoys playing with various puzzles and intellectual toys; supposedly they help her sort out the problems that she's pondering.
