The RFB is able to extract casings in this manner thanks to a pair of extractors, which are able to move sideways to engage with the rim of the casing and then pivot upwards to deposit the spent casing in the ejection tube. Spent casings will stay inside of this tube until either the gun is tilted downwards or the charging handle is operated. This ejection system, in addition to the rifle's controls being accessible from both sides, make the RFB a fully ambidextrous firearm.
