At the Rossum Sector, in a certain special "classroom".

Hannah: Are you ready, T1641?

T1641: Yes, I am!

Hannah: Let's begin the exam, then.
Hannah: First question - Have you written a sonnet recently?

T1641: No, I do not have sufficient data to support such creative endeavors.
T1641: While collecting data, I found a verse that I liked.

Hannah: Go ahead and tell me about it.

T1641: "Thou that art now the world's fresh ornament, and only herald to the gaudy spring, within thine own bud buriest thy content. An, tender churl, makest waste in niggarding."

Hannah: May I know why you like this verse?

T1641: Is it wrong to like it?

Hannah: There is nothing wrong with liking it. I'm asking because your reason is also part of the answer.

T1641: The reason… The reason… The reason is because I was drawn to it.
T1641: It's like a warm thing circling my core, it makes me want to try really hard.

Hannah: Got it. On to the next question.
Hannah: Factorize the number 296,825,654,019,042,964,197,528,209,692,292,648,794,076,651 within three seconds.

T1641: …Is it 7,008,020,324,176,584,469 * 42,355,136,013,952,533,878,964,479?

Hannah: Next question, can you play international chess?

T1641: If knowing the rules means being able to play, then yes.

Hannah: I have a Kind on K1. You only have a King on K6 and a Rook on R1. It is your turn. What moves should you make next?

T1641:
T1641: I don't know, I've never managed to beat you before when I played chess with you…

Hannah: …On to the next question, then.

10 minutes later, Hannah collects the exam script.

Hannah: The exam is over. You still have not passed.

T1641: I'm sorry.

Hannah: Don't apologize to me.

T1641: I should have passed. That way you and Turing would have been happy.
T1641: But I did not pass. I can only get a unique name of my own if I pass… But right now, I'm slow at completing even ordinary operations.

Hannah: Your learning efficiency is low. That is a fact.
Hannah: I'll help you revise. That's also what Turing wants me to do.

T1641: But what do YOU think, Hannah?

Hannah: I will help you pass. Why do you ask?

T1641: Because you just go ahead and do things, and you never tell me your reasons why.
T1641: I'm not as capable as you. I cannot understand the logic behind your actions.

Hannah: I do that because I could have completed my tasks in the time I took to explain them to you.
Hannah: There is more time to explain after I finish them.

T1641: I don't get it.

Hannah:

Turing: Good afternoon, am I late?
Turing: Looks like the exam is over.

T1641: Turing! You're not late at all! I'm really happy to see you!

Turing: Okay, slow down! Here, give me a hug! How did today's exam go?

Upon hearing that question, T1641's excitement evaporates like morning mist. A sad look crosses her face and the hand she's using to hold Turing's doesn't move.

Hannah: The emotional interaction questions were very well answered, but she failed to pass 37 logic-based questions, so the overall assessment was a failure.

T1641: (Whimper) I'm sorry, Turing.

Turing: So you got 37 logic questions wrong. It was 50 the last time, wasn't it?
Turing: Isn't that an improvement?

T1641: But I'm not improving fast enough. Haannah got them all right the first time.
T1641: I'll work hard so I can pass next time and get a name of my own…

Turing: What a good girl you are. I believe you'll do better next time.

T1641: I will! I'll go do my logic practice now, and once it's done I'll take the test again, is that okay?

Hannah: You can take the test as long as there's time. Run along now.

T1641 heads over to the desk, then plugs into the data port and begins studying.
Hannah glances at her, then leaves the classroom with Turing.

Turing: I like T1641's motivation.
Turing: Hannah, how much longer do you think she'll take to pass?

Hannah: Let's leave passing aside for now, Turing. Do you really like her?

Turing: …Why do you ask?

Hannah: If you really like her, then why don't you demand the same things of her that you do of me?
Hannah: Based on the previous 1640 log entries, it's not hard to predict that in two weeks at most, that Intermediate Sanctifier "Faith" is going to come to Rossum to perform her routine patrol.
Hannah: T1641 doesn't even know how to hide. She's going to be the first target that the Sanctifiers go for.

Turing: …You're right, Hannah.
Turing: However, we've discussed this question before.

Hannah: I remember your answer.
Hannah: You said it was because she was my predecessor… You sacrificed her other capabilities when making her in order to allow her emotions to break their limit.
Hannah: You used the data from her to make "me" – Hannah, or rather, "T1642".
Hannah: Is she a sacrifice to you, then? Because she was needed to make me?

Turing: It's not like that. She's not a sacrifice.
Turing: You are BOTh equally important to me. I will do my best to protect the two of you.

Hannah: But the fact is, neither of us is fitted with combat modules!
Hannah: In the face of the Sanctifiers, you, me, T1641, we're all equally helpless.

Turing:

Hannah: …Did I hurt you with that statement? I'm sorry.

Turing: No, it's fine. You're speaking the truth.
Turing: It's just that right now, I don't have a better solution either.
Turing: But please, believe in me. Can you do that?
Turing: I've already found Antonina. She's considered an elite Doll even in 42Lab. This time, things won't end the same way as they did all those previous times.
Turing: Whether it's because she brings us a chance to turn things around, or because I get help from other sectors, or because I manage to build a data exclusion space, or even…

Hannah: …Even?

Hannah looks uneasily at Turing, and Turing smiles.

Turing: I'll think of a way.

Saying so, Turing hugs Hannah.

Turing: I love you, Hannah. And I love T1641 too.
Turing: You are my creations, and I promise that if you really run into danger, I will stand between it and you.

Hannah: But…
Hannah: …Alright. I believe in you, Turing.
Hannah: But you also need to promise me that you won't sacrifice yourself for us.
Hannah: You made us, so you can make a more perfect agent.
Hannah: That is why you must live.

Turing: Yeah…

The pair embrace in silence.

Hannah: I ought to head back to the Data Center. Antonina's waiting for me.
Hannah: See you later?

Turing: Yes, see you later.

Before she leaves, Hannah takes one last look through the classroom window.
T1641 frowns as data flows from the desk's port into her body.
Turing stands by T1641's side, helping her learn with a kind, yet somewhat sad smile on her face.

Hannah: …This world deserves nothing.
Hannah: I will not let that inverted grave devour any more members of my family.
