- Fern's Pteranodon is holding an insect trapped in amber in its beak in her first Neural Expansion artwork. Her second Neural Expansion artwork contains many objects associated with adventure movies such as the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, pedestals decorated with Egyptian hieroglyphs and scarabs, an Eye of Providence or the Aztec sun stone.
- Fern's Theater Retro series costume is a reference to 1984's Ghostbusters, with Fern's Pteranodon replacing the giant Marshmallow Man from the movie. Chelsea and her cat as well as Earhart can be seen in the car in the background, along with a parody of the poster for 1982's The Thing.
