Private Meeting Logs
World's No. 1 Nice Person I
Comander. Please move aside. You’re blocking the bear’s paw from receiving sunlight.
Commander
Huh? What’s the bear’s paw…
Huh? What’s the bear’s paw…
The bear’s paw is a type of succulent that I’ve been growing aboard the Elmo. They’ve been in a rather poor state lately, so I looked up lots of information and determined that they are suffering from a lack of direct sunlight.
I brought them into my dorm room as the daylighting furnishings here are capable of helping them meet their sunlight requirements.
(Balthilde stands unmoving, tool-laden hands at her sides like some sort of stiff, unpowered bot on standby.)
Commander
Oh… I… see… Good work, Balthilde.
Oh… I… see… Good work, Balthilde.
Anything you need, Commander?
Commander
Nothing much. I just wanted to check how you were doing.
Nothing much. I just wanted to check how you were doing.
I’m good.
Commander
Mm…
Mm…
(Balthilde approaches me with a pair of pliers in her hands, then turns to repair a small hair dryer. The dismantled hair dryer’s various parts are arranged according to category and size. An open toolbox is sitting on her table.)
Commander
You seem busy…
You seem busy…
Not really.
Commander
Then… maybe I should come again when you’re free?
Then… maybe I should come again when you’re free?
I’m not busy.
Commander
Huh…?
Huh…?
I’m already done with dismantling the hair dryer. Now, I just have to replace the broken parts and reassemble it.
I don’t have to spend much computing power on this kind of thing.Commander
So Balthilde, you mean that I can talk to you while you work on the repairs?
So Balthilde, you mean that I can talk to you while you work on the repairs?
(Balthilde lowers her head, then gives me a subtle nod. A faint blush quietly shows itself on her cheeks.)
Commander
You’re the one who handles most mechanical engineering tasks like these in the Doll Community, right? Great work.

Work is a responsibility. Plus, this is all I’m good for.
Commander
More people should learn from your work ethic.
More people should learn from your work ethic.
Perhaps.
(Balthilde finishes assembling the hair dryer. She connects it to power before giving it to me.)
Do you want to try it out, Commander?
(I take the hair dryer offered to me and raise the heat level by one notch. A torrent of heat blasts me in the face; I was even more unprepared for the hair dryer to vibrate this much and I lose my grip.)
Watch out, Commander!
(Hisses in pain) I’m fine. Stay put, I’ll turn it off.
(Balthilde manages to catch the hair dryer before it hits the ground, but sustains a burn to the synthetic skin on her hand. She turns it off and looks at me.)
Commander
Sorry, I’ll get some ice for your hand.
Sorry, I’ll get some ice for your hand.
No need. I’m a Doll. We’re not that delicate.
This kind of thing happens quite often whenever I’m working at the Doll Community.
