Max Profile Quotes

Career[edit]

The EMR was created at the end of World War 3. It is a scientist Doll aimed at researching electromagnetism and related fields to develop new energy sources and military weapons. The EMR's body is covered with high-performance insulation materials which are replaced regularly to ensure safety during high-risk experiments.

Max was purchased and awoken by the dean of the Tantoin School of Electromagnetism. Her name was a reflection of his expectations of her, which Max passed with flying colors. She completed several experiments by herself and in a team before being recommended by the dean to enter 42Lab's Institute of Electromagnetism.

Later, due to the sensitive nature and demanding requirements of her new project, she joined Project Neural Cloud and migrated most of the project to the cloud.

Doll Profile 1[edit]

On her first day at 42Lab's Institute of Electromagnetism, Max managed to violate rules 5, 7, 12, and 36 of the institute's etiquette guidelines by crashing into the entrance guard, mouthing off, and performing various other colorful infractions. She became the "Legendary Doll" around the institute for having been written up so much without even having clocked in.

"Me, a researcher's kid? Get the person in charge out here! Who do you think you're talking to... I'm a professional! A Doll! Not some human child!"
—42Lab's Institute of Electromagnetism Disciplinary Department Incident Report

Doll Profile 2[edit]

Perhaps because the Institute of Electromagnetism resembles a school rather than a military complex, as long as one doesn't cross any red lines, their punishment tends to be fairly light.

When Max, who had been keenly aware of the situation since she arrived, heard of her punishment, she completely let herself go. She dressed in a slovenly manner, clocked in whenever she pleased, and only occasionally registered her use of materials. Even when attending external project update meetings, she gave no regard to her appearance. It eventually got to the point where she was giving project speeches with a pointer in one hand and a lunch box in the other.

For Max, nothing really matters besides experiments. If it can be solved in parallel, then solve it in parallel and save some time. Considering her outstanding research capabilities, the supervising administrators have no choice but to leave her be.

Perhaps the only regulations that Max takes seriously and follows dutifully are laboratory precautions.

Doll Profile 3[edit]

Among all types of scientific experiments, electromagnetic experiments rank among the most dangerous. Adding to the danger, is the fact that most of the projects that fall into Max's hands are military-related.

Accidents during experiments are already commonplace for Max. Even when experiment regulations are strictly followed, accidents are unavoidable. If it weren't for the fact that Max is a Doll, she would already be listed on the Institute of Electromagnetism's memorial.

It is precisely because of this that Max treats experiments more strictly than anyone else. Outside the laboratory she is indifferent to everything, but inside she will not allow anyone to be negligent in even the most basic of procedures.

Nevertheless, in the short period of time since Max joined 42Lab, she has suffered from multiple accidents leading to severe body damage. According to logistics records, Max has replaced her body's insulation material up to 115 times.

Doll Profile 4[edit]

Besides experiments, there is actually one more thing that piques Max's interest.

There's a saying that goes around the institute that the unit of measure for electromagnetism is Gaussian units, and the unit of measure for gossip is the Max mood unit.

The speed and efficiency by which gossip spreads as well as the gossip's breadth all fluctuate depending on Max's mood. There's no one rule to determine what will happen.

For example, the secret that Dr. Sim, responsible for leading electromagnetic wave research, is actually bald and wears a wig was accidentally leaked when Max was in a good mood, having just gotten results in her project.

Alternatively, the diagram detailing inter-office romances was designed when Max was in a bad mood after her experiment funds were cut and she was looking to distract herself.

Doll Profile 5[edit]

The accident that occurred during the Project Neural Cloud test left Max stranded in the Magrasea cloud. Here, her tasks are to go out and assist the team or stay in the Oasis to handle trivial tasks. Experimentation time has taken a massive hit.

Initially, this made Max very uncomfortable, and she applied for some operand to make a portable simulation space where she could perform some small-scale electromagnetic experiments from time to time.

However, as she came in contact with, and experienced more and more things, she gradually found joy outside of experiments. She was able to hold conversations about things besides formulas, theorems, and other concepts that flew over others' heads.

"It's like... in experiments there are always variables. Since this is how things are now, there's no use in being anxious, right?"
