UMP45 as a | ==Personality== | ||
UMP45, usually shortened to “45”, is a rogue Tactical Doll and the leader of the black ops mercenaries of Squad 404. Her driven and coldly aggressive personality, the result of a significant betrayal, is thinly veiled by her dry humor, and serves to conceal a deeper goodness of soul she shows only rarely. She is described as wearing an ominous smile. Her ultimate goal is to identify and take revenge on the mastermind behind the Butterfly Incident, who used her and UMP40 as pawns and caused 40's death. 45 dislikes self-giving and heroic people like AR Team as she considers that life is too precious to be thrown away, a philosophy she inherited from UMP40. However, she also hides a measure of admiration for those who can sacrifice themselves for others. Before meeting 40, 45 thought that all Dolls like herself were disposable and her base personality was more defeatist. Her prickly personality leads 45 to reject the attention of people trying to look out for her. Though she hides it, she wants to live a peaceful life one day. | |||
45's skills in electronic warfare are considered second-to-none among T-Dolls, even higher than those of AK-12 from Task Force DEFY. Her combat specs are however quite low, so she relies on infiltration, guerilla warfare and hit-and-run tactics during operations. She sometimes uses German expletives like the rest of her team, and her preferred alcoholic beverage is beer. | |||
| |||
45 always takes up opportunities to gain money and freebies or to shirk from making payments. During missions, she makes sure Squad 404 sticks close to the terms of their contracts and that they don't do anything they are not being paid for or who would place them in too much danger, including expending the lives of people besides their protection targets. She is however much less demanding when her personal goals are involved. | |||
45 often mocks 416's pride as an elite T-Doll and her thirst for revenge against M16A1, while 416 loathes 45's dishonorable methods and occasional recklessness. Despite their hostility, 416's opinion of 45 softened with time and 45 suffered grave injuries to protect 416 during the battle against the KCCO. 45 considered 416 next in line to command Squad 404 if she was destroyed, but she also insisted that 416 was free to leave the team at any moment. 416 ensured 45's life was saved after she was hurt protecting her and recognized her abilities even if she disagreed with her methods. After proclaiming herself UMP45's little sister, 9 is dedicated to help her reach her goal and follows all her orders while waiting for the time 45 will talk to her about her past. 9 greatly admires 45's abilities and determination, but is aware that she will never be her equal even if she receives upgrades, and that she will never match 40's importance in 45's eyes. 45 doesn't treat 9 differently from the rest of 404 or spare her from her harsh words and jokes. While G11 is too meek to respond to 45's teasing, she values 45 since she is the core of Squad 404 and she would have nowhere to go if she died and 404 was disbanded. | |||
==Main Story== | |||
===Origins=== | |||
| |||
UMP45 was created as a Dual-Track DSI-8 model SY Sangvis Ferri model, serial number SF/DSB1-3873. This makes her the same model as UMP40, serial number SF/DSB1-0671, as well as Destroyer, serial number SF/DSB1-0138, and Dreamer, serial number SF/DSB1-0139, before they were modified. The DSI-8 is “Dual Track” due to its ability to switch freely between Zener Protocol and OGAS operating systems. 40 and 45 were selected to be infiltrated into Griffin & Kryuger and cause the Butterfly Incident. With 40 as the main unit and 45 as a backup, they were modified with hidden command authorizations and all their previous records were deleted before being delivered to G&K, with 45 arriving some time after 40. | |||
After joining G&K, 45's commander ruled her out at useless because of her low combat efficiency, and denied her the right to rest or receive Dummies until she could get a passing grade during training. However, 45's performances were intrinsically limited by her low-spec Fire Control Core and specialization in electronic modules. When 40 met her, 45 was trying to improve through practice. She believed her only worth was to please her commander, and that friends were not necessary to T-Dolls. Because their previous memories had been deleted, 45 did not notice at first that the cheerful 40 was the same low-end model as her and had already gone through the same woes. 40 adopted 45 as her little sister, wrote off the commander as a bad leader for only caring about combat performances, and encouraged 45 to make friends, arguing that they were outfitted with emotion modules because humans wanted Dolls to act like them. | |||
40 connected to 45 by cable to transfer her combat data as well as some photos, stressing that they had the right to make private transfers without a human's permission. 40 also invited 45 to her room, where she had installed a wall of LED screens to display videos of a pre-war beach in the Maldives from a video library she found during a mission, and the two Dolls promised to survive, get stronger bodies and go to this place one day. The data from 40's thousands of training sessions was only marginally useful but training further with 40 enabled 45 to improve her training score from 30 to 60%. Meeting 45 had solved 40's loneliness, but their connection informed her that 45's Neural Cloud was the same as her own, due to 45 being her backup for the sole purpose of creating the Butterfly Incident. Horrified that they were being used as disposable pawns, 40 started planning her own sacrifice, and 45's survival. | |||
===Butterfly Incident=== | |||
| |||
| |||
When 40 and 45 were selected as part of the T-Dolls lent by G&K to Statesec for Operation Butterfly, 45 was worried about being deployed in a real battle but hoped that with they would earn recognition for providing electronic support and receive better bodies, though 40 was not as optimistic. Statesec ordered the Dolls to replace their G&K command authorizations and install their confidential safeguard program, which could destroy a Doll's Neural Cloud to prevent data leaks. However, 40 asked 45 to change her command authorizations so 40 would be her commander by proxy, pretending this would save storage space. 40 and 45 were assigned to Support Squad 14 and met M16A1, Squad 7's leader, and her teammate HK416 who dismissed Squad 14 as useless. When 416 was expelled from the operation, she asked her teammates to apologize to 45 in her behalf, because she had mocked her (and potentially attacked her). | |||
At the start of the mission, after Squad 14 easily took over the systems of the factory at Sangvis Base 0 with their OGAS mode, 45 gave 40 complete access to her Neural Cloud to serve as a computation support passthrough to 40, who executed the hacking operations. As the main squads reached Lycoris, an unknown frequency ordered 40 and 45 to execute Order 61, and 40 used the hidden module in her Neural Cloud. Moments later, all Dolls went berserk as they became trapped in the base and all external signals were blocked. 40 and 45 had to fight back as they made their way toward the base's exit. | |||
| |||
As 40 and 45 reached the exit of the base, Elisa awakened and locked the door to their exit. 40 revealed to 45 she was the cause of the massacre and announced that their safeguard programs had been activated and would kill them both unless one of them died. She ordered 45 to kill her so she could have a death appropriate for a T-Doll instead of having her Neural Cloud destroyed. In reality, all the Dolls except for 45 had been infected by an early form of the Parapluie virus, and only 40's Neural Cloud was being destroyed since her schemes had protected 45. She implored 45 to value her life and live it for its own sake with no regard for the opinions of others, and thought that forcing 45 to sacrifice her would reinforce these values. 40 passed her dog tags and gear to 45 and forced back open the base's exit before 45 killed her. | |||
At the base's exit, 45 met M16A1 and denied knowing about the cause of the incident. M16 then asked why she was not with 40 and 45 replied she had been killed, but M16 remarked that 45 bore no wound or trace of having fought. With M16 suspecting her to be the perpetrator of the massacre, both Dolls opened fire on each other, and 40's inherited radio saved 45 from M16's fatal shot. With her magazine empty and unable to match an elite T-Dolls' fighting strength, 45 fled to another exit, but M16 quickly caught up to her and pinned her down. The instant before M16 shot her in the head, 45 launched an electronic attack on her Fire Control Core, causing her shot to miss, and freed herself from M16's hold by breaking her own wrist. 45 ran for cover and tried to take down M16, but M16 quickly reached her using her bulletproof body to advance under fire, pinned her down again and attacked 45 with a knife. 45 used her arm to block the downward thrust, but the blade pierced it and cut her eye, while she attacked M16's own eye with her bare hand, badly scratching it off. The fight was interrupted when M16's Neural Cloud was overwhelmed by the neural cascade induced by Parapluie. With Elisa now in control of her body, M16 left and the wounded 45 fled Sangvis Base 0. | |||
45's memories of the Butterfly Incidents and 40 became locked at Consciousness Level III and tied to 45's body rather than her Neural Cloud. This caused 45's memories of 40 to become hazy, but she clung to them with her life. | |||
===Those Who Don't Exist=== | |||
45 met UMP9 when she was still an A-Doll named Reina, who was forced to work for a gang of Doll kidnappers in a small Yellow Zone city. Thinking 45 was a regular PMC Doll, Reina lured her in a warehouse with promises of a discount at her shop and incapacitated her with a taser, but 45 recovered near instantly from the shock due to her specialized body. However, 45 left without retaliating. Confused by 45's decision to let her go instead of incapacitating her to resell her on the black market, Reina tried to find information about her online, then started stalking 45. Having immediately noticed her signal, 45 eventually approached her, and Reina asked her help to destroy the server controlling the Dolls captured by the gang, in exchange for all her savings. | |||
Being in a position to help a Doll used as a pawn by humans like she had been, and having previously left a backdoor in Reina's Neural Cloud to kill her if she tried to trick her again, 45 and Reina hacked into the seemingly unprotected server from a nearby building, but triggered an offensive firewall when 45 deactivated the restriction module. Reina disconnected from the server first, forcing 45 to take her place in the restriction list. However, Reina immediately felt regret for tricking 45 twice after she forgave her the first time and went back into the server, but found it completely emptied by 45. 45 then incapacitated Reina and asked her about her motivations. Reina came clean about her regrets in tricking 45 and that she had no money to pay her to begin with, and 45 decided to let her go a second time, advising her to live a peaceful life. | |||
Reina thought that 45 had acted toward her like humans did toward their families, and decided to become 45's little sister. Going back to the server, Reina hacked into the gang's bank account and used the money to buy a UMP9 submachine gun and gear similar to 45's, but inadvertently made trouble for 45, as the gang thought she was the hacker and went after her while her gun was empty and she couldn't fight back. Reina, now calling herself UMP9, rescued 45, but 45 rejected her at first, as she didn't want to share the burdens of her past with someone else. UMP9 insisted, as following 45 would not make her life more dangerous than it already was, and proved her resolve by slashing her eye to match 45. Though 45 pointed out she had slashed the wrong eye, she accepted 9's devotion and promised to tell her about her past one day. | |||
9 and 45 never talked about how they met to 416 and G11, who believed for several years that the UMPs really were sister models. | |||
| |||
45 and 9 were later hired by Dier to investigate a band of Doll-kidnapping thugs, and saved the rogue HK416 as she tried to confront the thugs to save an abandoned maid Doll. 45 and 416 didn't recognize each other at first since 45 thought 416 had been destroyed with the other Dolls during Butterfly, and 45's attitude was completely different from the last time 416 had seen her. After mocking 416 for acting like a hero even after losing all her fighting abilites, 45 offered 416 to work for her in order to recover her combat authorizations. 416 refused at first, insisting that her loyalty lied with G&K, but she eventually accepted so 45 would save the maid Doll. After Dier restored 416's authorizations, 45 sent her take down the thugs' base, and 416 completed the mission flawlessly. 416 was initially reluctant to ask Dier to make the maid Doll into a T-Doll so she could survive by herself, as she didn't want to force her choice on her like M16 did by quicking her from G&K, but 45 pointed out that 416 had already forced a choice on the maid Doll when saving her. The maid Doll joined the team, newly christened Squad 404 by 45, under the name G11. | |||
Dier later revealed to 416 that 45 had already paid for two Fire Control Cores before bringing 416 and G11 to him the day she found them, as she had decided to help them survive from the start. | |||
===Griffin contracts=== | |||
| |||
404 was contracted by Griffin & Kryuger to find information about Agent's involvement in the fight with AR Team at Safe House 3. Following Agent's trace, they uncovered intel about Plan Parapluie. Since M16A1 operated in the same area, 416 went her own way to fight with her, and 45 later fetched 416 after she was beaten by M16. 45 left M16 with a clue about Parapluie, warning her that “It's raining on the plain”. | |||
After Sangvis Ferri attempted to eliminate Berezovich Kryuger as part of Plan Parapluie, G&K launched a counterattack and hired Squad 404 to destroy a radio jammer in Area S06, naming the mission “Operation Cube”. Using intel from SPP-1, 404 launched guerilla attacks against Hunter, then Executioner and Ouroboros. Ouroboros rigged the jammer with explosives and had Executioner activate them after luring 404 in, but the squad managed to escape the explosion thanks to 45's bluff: using Executioner's sense of comradery, she exchanged the alleged location of Hunter's body against extra time to escape the trap. 45 then tracked down and eliminated Ouroboros, bringing back her neural core to G&K. However, 45 was infected with the new Parapluie virus while hacking into the fake Sangvis Ferri jammer during the mission. | |||
After ST AR-15 sacrificed herself to blow up a building containing one of Elisa's dummies, Angelia dispatched 404 to recover AR-15's body parts and rebuild her as part of Task Force DEFY. AR-15 was initially reluctant to accept the debt Angelia had burdened her with, but 45 pointed out that using her improved body was one way to figure out the source of her own will. | |||
===Operation Hypothermia=== | |||
| |||
G&K hired Squad 404 again to rescue AR Team after their aircraft crash-landed in a Sangvis Ferri Jupiter Cannon testing field in Area S03. 416 started suspecting that 45 was compromised by Parapluie after seeing her talk secretly with a Sangvis signal some time before Architect detected their position, but 45 revealed that she was in fact talking with the infiltrated G&K T-Doll M1887. After luring Architect out of her base by faking a predictable attack pattern, 404 joined forces with AR Team. Curious about RO635 after hearing from her through M16, 45 picked her brain, asking if she was comfortable being considered a mere replacement for M4A1, and advising her not to become trapped into someone else's role. RO replied that she accepted her role for the time being, and following M16's warning about 45 considering people outside her targets to be expendable, she reaffirmed that she would be in charge of the mission and not 45. Her assurance left 45's curiosity satisfied. | |||
Following 45's suggestion to split up Architect and Gager's forces to break through Sangvis Ferri's blockade and reach the border of the area, RO sent M1887 to get Gager's attention while 404 would cut power to Architect's cannons, enabling AR Team to raid the SF command post. However, after Gager put more pressure than expected on M1887's team, RO changed the plan and brought AR Team to a nearby communications outpost to request support from the Commander. With 404's position becoming more dangerous because of AR Team's delay, 45 ordered the squad to abandon the mission, deciding that they couldn't be held responsible for AR Team trying to save M1887. 416 contested the order and the Commander's reinforcements arrived while 45 scolded 416 for following heroic ideals instead of acting like a black operative. | |||
After the battle settled, 45 asked RO again if her decision to rely on the Commander was mimicking what M4 would do. RO replied that it was her role to do so as M4's replacement, and 45 commented that she envied her naivety before wiping the memories of 404 from the G&K T-Dolls. | |||
===Drone retrieval=== | |||
After AR Team's mission in Sangvis Base 0, Persica hired Squad 404 through Angelia to recover the drone containing the footage of Lycoris' last moments recovered by M16, which was shot down by Dreamer in the nearby Area S15. Aside from the unusually large sum of money they would earn from the contract, 45 was also interested in returning to the location of the Butterfly Incident. | |||
Before the mission, 404 received maintenance from Dier in the basement of a nearby small cafe and 45 went through cache replacement and database optimization, but when prompted she refused to delete her memories of 40. Persica also required the squad to be outfitted with an interfacing protocol upgrade to enable 416 and G11 to participate in electronic warfare. 9 and 45 trained their squadmates before the operation, but the new protocol kept erroneously replaying memories of 40. 45 assured she could still operate normally, but 9 asked Dier to monitor her electroneuralograph during the operation. | |||
As Squad 404 entered Area S15, Dreamer detected 45's presence because of her Parapluie infection and dispatched Destroyer to eliminate them. 45 at first ruled out Destroyer's taunts over the local PA system as a bluff and located the drone's position, but Destroyer then identified 45 by name. While searching for a way to counter the virus surveillance, 45 ordered 404 to continue the mission, whiled she acted as a bait to distract Destroyer. To ensure 45 would fall under SF's control once Elisa gave the order, Dreamer asked Destroyer to stay within 3km of 45 in order to update the virus and rewrite her Neural Cloud's authorizations. 45 attempted to counter the attack by closing her external ports but struggled against some high-authorizations data flows. | |||
When Elisa activated Parapluie en masse while fighting G&K and the KCCO, Dreamer relayed the Parapluie activation protocol to 45 and ordered her to attack Squad 404, but the protocol failed as 45 figured out that constantly switching between her Zener and OGAS operating systems let her counter the attack. Dreamer then used all available servers in her base to overload 45's Neural Cloud and destroy her. However, the connection was cut before it could kill 45 since Destroyer, who was still acting as a relay, was destroyed by G11 and DSR-50's combined sniper shots after exposing herself briefly to locate 45. In order for Dier to remotely repair 45, 404 physically connected to her Neural Cloud and recovered enough data fragments to pull her back from consciousness level III to II, while fighting back against her automated defense programs. After over three hours of work, 404 eventually assembled enough data fragments to let Dier take over as they fought off Destroyer's Gaia form. | |||
After 45 went through her memories of the Butterfly Incident, Dier managed to wake her up and she took back command of Squad 404 to take down Destroyer Gaia. | |||
===The Great Retreat=== | |||
| |||
Did you have a good rest, ladies? Time to work. | |||
As Sier directed 404 to their evac route away from Base 0, she relayed a G&K signal ordering all troops to retreat from Area S09 to Area S11 after the KCCO turned against them during the battle with Sangvis Ferri. Sensing an opportunity to gain extra money, 45 redirected 404 to the battlefield to assist G&K in what the T-Dolls would later call “The Great Retreat”. | |||
During this operation, Angelia contacted 404 and ordered them send the Base 0 data back by drone to Sier instead of handing it to Persica directly, in order to make a copy. In exchange for information about the true mastermind behind the Butterfly Incident, Angelia redirected the squad to Sangvis Ferri's central database to uncover Elisa's position, as AK-12 had reached her limit in electronic warfare due to Parapluie interference. Despite heavy resistance from Gager, 45 had Squad 404 push through into the database while contacting Angelia for backup, and managed to secure encrypted data concerning OGAS, Elisa and M4A1. Angelia deployed DEFY to break 404 out of the Sangvis encirclement, marking the first encounter between 45 and . 45 was surprised to see that the Doll who had been described to her as caring and uncertain had become cold and ruthless. | |||
After the two teams collaborated to take down Gager and moved toward capturing Elisa, Angelia tasked 45 with monitoring M4, whose behavior was increasingly suspicious. 45 and 9 infiltrated M4's Neural Cloud, but 9 was quickly overwhelmed by M4's unique framework and 45 alone managed to eavesdrop on M4's internal conversation with her OGAS. 45 reported to Angelia that M4 had made a deal to meet Elisa at a certain place in exchange for the location of AR Team, and Angelia used this opportunity to plan Elisa's capture. 45 was aware the plan potentially involved DEFY and 404's destruction, but was willing to go through it to uncover more information about the target of her vengeance. | |||
After the KCCO prevented DEFY from capturing Elisa, 404 was forced into a pitched battle with DEFY against KCCO armored units. As the team rushed from cover to cover to get below a tank's line of fire, 416 was about to be shot when 45 pushed her and threw a TNT block at the tank, destroying it but suffering heavy damage from the explosion. Before coming offline, 45 gave the detonator of Angelia's Collapse bomb to M4. | |||
After 9 shut down most of 45's systems to preserve power, 404 infiltrated the six defense lines of G&K's command post for Dier to run a remote diagnostic on 45, with Kalina's on-site assistance. With a torso support structure snapped in two, a missing right arm, shrapnel in the remaining limbs, a disconnected main supply and damaged auxiliary power, only 45's neural core and its internal backup power remained intact. Because loss of communications with G&K's central servers made remote Neural Cloud backups impossible and repairs without a functional main power would be very dangerous, 416 asked to perform a physical backup by neural transplant, but 45 used her emergency batteries to briefly exit hibernation mode and refuse to have her Neural Cloud transferred out of her current body, as her key memories about 40 were stored in her body. Since only the Commander would have the authority to mark a T-Doll for dismantlement, Kalina patched up 45's main power supply to keep her alive while Dier lowered her consciousness to Level III to conserve power. She was later airlifted by 404's own evac airship with 9 and G11, while 416 participated in the operation to rescue the Commander. | |||
===Neural Upgrade=== | |||
| |||
After being transported to Dier's lab, 45 insisted to be repaired instead of having her body replaced, regardless of the costs, the level of ability she could recover or the possibility to lose her consciousness. She also refused to have her Neural Cloud backed up for safety, as she would lose her sense of self. Due to her base memory usage being tailored for electronic warfare, extensive mutilation and the already difficult maintenance due to the rarity of compatible parts with her long discontinued DSI-8 body and various alterations already made to her frame, complete recovery was deemed impossible. | |||
| |||
Dier needed to resort to experimental changes with old parts kits from his depot. The risk of compatibility problems contaminating her control system would normally be fixed with a reboot after tweaking low-level control sequence code, but her state could make the reboot fail, which would lock her Neural Cloud in Level III and make her comatose with no hope of recovery. As 45's consciousness was locked to Level III for maintenance, 45 made contact with the weak OGAS who had emerged in her subconscious after she was infected by Parapluie, taking the form of 40. Because of their identical Neural Cloud base and 45 longing to see her friend again, OGAS was able to convincingly replicate 40 from 45's memories. 40 reminded 45 that her goal when they were together was to find a stronger body, but 45 refused to let go of 40 and her body yet and allowed herself to cry in 40's simulated presence. 45 promised to leave her past behind once her vengeance is accomplished, and to bury 40's memories along with her old body. 40 also asked if 45 had made friends and 45 reluctantly admitted that she had by forming Squad 404. The experience revivified the ideals 40 had imparted to 45. | |||
Dier managed to find deep in his depot an arm model over 60 years old compatible with 45's unusual specs, all mainstream manufacturer products being problematic. Though stronger than a normal Doll arm, it was bulky and needed to have exposed tubing for effective cooling and conduction. Many parts were secured with spaceship-grade adhesive tape for lack of other options. Dier managed to expand 45's Neural Cloud capacity, embedded an amplifying antenna in her skull for electronic warfare, improved her mainframe capacity, added longer backup battery capacity and enhanced her network connectivity. The only part that couldn't be replaced was her left eyeball, so new sensors were installed to compensate. 45 awakened a day after Dier finished the repairs, as 404 were growing restless, and 416 remained at her side the entire time, insisting that she wanted to be present should she die. Dier offered to fabricate a custom arm but 45 felt the current one suited her need, though she insisted to have a trial period before paying. | |||
45 was surprised 416 remained with 404, but 416 explained that she needed 45 to locate the Commander and rescue them from Paradeus. With IOP footing the bill for the rescue, which would go toward compensating Dier for his work, 45 spent a week to prepare the operation. She managed to hack all four Nytos interrogating the Commander to warn them of 404's arrival, and that they should make the interrogation drag on as long as possible. She hid a short-range transmitter and a pistol close to hand, and warned that she would hack one of the Nytos again to open the room from the inside and identify herself with the passphrase “I brought misfortune”. | |||
After infiltrating the hospital and sabotaging the surveillance cameras and guards, 45 remotely deactivated the Commander's restraints, enabling them to shoot three of the Nytos as they were about to kill them, while leaving the fourth one hacked by 45 alive to open the locked door. 45 and 416 carried the Commander outside and passed them on to the G&K Dolls. 404 then disappeared for some time during the Belgrade events. | |||
===To Paldiski=== | |||
| |||
Squad 404 was hired by both the Commander and Persica to assist the operations concerning the Paldiski Submarine Base. While G&K's mission was to provide electronic warfare support, Persica hired them to monitor AR Team. 45 readily took the mission as it would reveal more about the mastermind behind the Butterfly Incident. In case of a repeat of the Base 0 battle, 45 paid Dier to upgrade 416's electronic warfare abilities, as well as 9's after she requested to be upgraded too. As G&K's train convoy approached Tallinn, 45 detected two signals with a protocol different than Zener, one belonging to M4's OGAS and another from the city trying to invade her Neural Cloud, similar to the Parapluie attack during Butterfly. She detected that M4 was also being targeted by the connections. | |||
As AR Team entered the city, the Commander detached 404 on a supplementary mission to neutralize a power station in the outskirts, powering a network of automated turrets. Accessing the station through the city's sewers, 45 hacked into the local network to take down the force fields of the drones and turret before planting explosives. When the station exploded, the burst of connections from the city nearly overwhelmed 45. After 404 retraced their steps back to Tallinn, the signal density interfered with their Neural Clouds, causing them to see fog and a dark sky in broad daylight. Using the code-reading module originally installed by Dier in her new arm to hack into the minds of Nytos, 45 deciphered the attack as broadband noise picked up by their Zener Protocol. Inspired by AR-15's technique to isolate her Parapluie infection, she and 9 closed the access ports of all 404 members to get rid of the interference. 45 then isolated one of the signals and attempted to trace back its source deeper into the city. | |||
The source of the signal was the corpse of an Isomer (Enemy). As 45 inspected it, the Isomer's gestalt mind interfaced with her Consciousness Level III, probing her memories to determine if she was a Chosen One or someone who could free them from Tallinn. Though they ruled 45 out, they learned about the existence of M4A1, whom 45 warned about the enemy's interest. The nature of the Isomers piqued Persica's interest, and she encouraged M4 to connect with the gestalt, while secretly asking 45 and 9 to infiltrate her Neural Cloud and intercept the data they exchanged. Like during the Great Retreat, the large dataflow from M4's Neural Cloud quickly overwhelmed 9, leaving only 45 to monitor her. 45 observed the inverted forest forming the base of M4's Neural Cloud and attempted to investigate the mansion in her memories, but was noticed by M4's OGAS, who ejected her and caused the Isomers to attack her. 416 and 9 provided electronic warfare support so 45 would disconnect as her body started to overheat, but 45 decided to push through, transmitting the data she had acquired to 9 before losing the connection with her team. | |||
After AR-15 entered M4's Neural Cloud to pull her out from the Isomer's gestalt mind, she took OGAS' attention away from 45, who escaped outside the range of her offensive firewalls. However, she and AR-15 also became trapped in a processing loop as OGAS searched for a specific memory in the gestalt mind. After OGAS discovered the origins of Isomer White, she attempted to make M4 and herself coalesce with the Isomers, but M4 was saved by AR-15 while 45 assembled every data possible before the connection would break, and discovered the origins of the Parapluie virus and its connection to OGAS. She also realized that the manifestation of 40 in her Level III was probably a feeble OGAS who appeared after she was infected by Parapluie back during Operation Cube. | |||

Before leaving the gestalt mind, 45 sensed the Isomers connecting with the KCCO train convoy approaching the city, and considered leaving with 404 before Tallinn turned into a battlefield. While M4 believed OGAS had left her Neural Cloud, 45 understood that their connection could not be broken and encouraged M4 to get her OGAS back. Though she understood OGAS was the source of the conspiracy, 45 accepted that their power would be needed to bring it to an end. After M4 voiced her skepticism, 45 became frustrated to see M4 not using the power at her disposal, and pushed AR Team to question M4 about her recent seemingly impossible electronic warfare feats, so M4 would come forward and make better use of OGAS. After the Commander decided to hijack one of the KCCO's armored trains, they sent 404 to infiltrate the train's system with AR Team providing covering fire, giving AR Team access to the train's cannons to fight back against the rest of the KCCO convoy. | |||
After the Commander's train gained ground on the KCCO, 45 and 9 tried to fight Dandelion after M4 SOPMOD II located her, then escorted her back inside the train when the Commander identified her as an ally. 45 insisted to receive a bonus for the embarrassment of carrying back the hacked SOP-II. 45 and 416 then followed AR Team to fend off the KCCO troops harassing them while 9 and G11 repaired the train's main power. 45 was displeased that 9 did not meet the repairs deadline and threatened to put her Neural Cloud in G11's body during the next maintenance as punishment. As the train approached Paldiski and with every other systems busy computing strategic data, Kalina requested that 45 reconstruct the intel files transmitted by DEFY, which informed them of the team's situation in the base. Having reflected on her own shortcomings during the Great Retreat, 416 advised the increasingly agitated 45 to not sacrifice her friends and her future to get answers about her past in Paldiski, but 45 ignored her. | |||
===Paldiski Incident=== | |||
| |||
After the armored train arrived before the Paldiski Submarine Base, Squad 404 were deployed by the Commander to infiltrate the security perimeter of the base and open the gates. Since 45's OGAS was too weak to be of assistance, Dandelion offered to strengthen 45's resistance to the pull of the networked consciousnesses, reinforced by the Starfish inside the base, by giving her access to her Neural Cloud base layer, but 45 refused as she did not trust Dandelion. | |||
At the base's defense wall, 45 and 9 hacked into the sewer access and reached the interior of the wall. Leaving 9 and G11 to guard their retreat, 45 and 416 closed in on DEFY's last coordinates to find the gate's controls. Due to the presence of forced connections like in Tallinn, 45 ordered 404 to limit their networked communications to a minimum, only sending sitreps by burst transmissions. After a brief fire exchange with RPK-16 and AK-15, who thought 404 were enemies due to their lack of Zener signal, 45 and 416 reached the gate's controls and opened the gates before regrouping with 9 and G11 to find Angelia deeper into the base. RPK-16 offered to have AK-15 go with them but 45 refused to work with an unfamiliar Doll, She however gave RPK-16 the Commander's communication channel. As she sent her sitrep to the Commander, 45 picked up Yegor's surrender offer and praised the Commander for completely ignoring him. | |||
Deeper in the base, 404 were remotely attacked by M16A1 (Boss), who used Intruder concealed nearby as a proxy. M16 warned 404 to go back, arguing that 45 shouldn't risk the lives of her team for her own goals, but 45 had no intention of turning back, even after admitting she was not any more of a match against M16 as she was during Butterfly. M16 tried to send 45's consciousness to Level III as 40's replica might convince her, but 45 resisted the attack and told M16 that unlike her, whose past was a burden, 45's own past pushed her forward. After failing to convince anyone in 404, M16 had Sangvis Ferri troops attack the squad, then launched another electronic attack that managed to take down 45 while she was distracted during her retreat. | |||
The attack forced 45 to replay her memories of the Butterfly Incident again as she worked her way back to full consciousness. M16 did not attempt to take over 45's authorizations as a normal electronic attack would, but only forced access to her memories of the Butterfly Incident in order to recover her own memories she had lost. 404 fought off the SF troops while 45 was down and located Intruder's signal. When she came to, 45 ordered to track Intruder down to prevent another electronic attack from M16. Intruder's signal drew 404 deeper into the base, where the lack of main power had locked many doors. Using the closed-circuit communication system of the base powered by emergency generators, 404 located Angelia's position and made their way there. 45 continued to fend off M16's electronic attacks in an attempt to backtrace her way into M16's Neural Cloud to gain intel on the base. She insisted to do so alone in case of a viral attack, but 416 convinced her to let 9 provide calculation support, which eventually enabled 45 to get the data and kill the forced connection. | |||

With the data indicating the presence of Nytos deeper in the base, 416 argued that 404 should backtrack and request reinforcements, but 45 ordered to push through. After reaching another locked door, 45 ordered G11 and 416 to locate the jammer preventing them to communicate with the surface while herself and 9 would explore to find another route. However, 416 refused the order as it would split the team up while dangerous enemies were around and unnecessarily put the squad in danger. Talking from her own experience of abandoning her past grudge against M16 to focus on her future, 416 argued that 45 was enabling her personal goals to hamper her commanding abilities, and that she should not sacrifice the living for the sake of those killed during the Butterfly Incident. 45 plainly revealed the vengeance that had been motivating her even before forming Squad 404 and retorted that 416 couldn't understand because she had not been betrayed during the operation, and did not carry the burden of seeking retribution. The explanation convinced 416 that 45's motivations were honorable, and she asked to go with 45 in place of 9 to protect her as she searched for another way in. The plan changed when G11 was abducted through a hole in the ceiling and dragged deeper into the jammed up area. 45 was the only one who could fit in the crawl space and gave chase while 416 and 9 went to destroy the jammer. | |||
At the other end of the crawl space, 45's Neural Cloud was attacked by the young Nytos found by Angelia in the Paradeus labs, but she was woken up after Angelia identified her as an ally. 45 entered Anna's mind to repel M16's attack on the young Nytos and awaken them to use their access authorizations and lift the quarantine of the labs. 45 allowed M16's signal to access her memories again, but modified them into alternative versions, frustrating M16 until she sent her consciousness in person. 45 tried to take her on with electronic attacks, but M16's and her OGAS' processing power was far above 45's and she sent her consciousness back to Level III. 45 met 40's replica again and confirmed its nature as an OGAS, and that her presence enabled her to hack into the Neural Clouds of Nytos and special Dolls like M4. With 40's and Anna's help, 45 counter-hacked M16, using the common memories of all OGAS consciousnesses as a weak point, but Elisa herself came to assist M16. Harboring mixed feelings toward 45 for having played a part in Lycoris' death but also in freeing her during Butterfly, Elisa forced 45 to continue replaying her memories until M16 obtained her answers and ceased her electronic attack on the Nytos. Before releasing 45, Elisa asked her not to get in her way as she tried to coalesce with the Starfish at the bottom of the base, claiming it would reveal all answers about Butterfly. | |||
With the lab quarantine lifted by the Nytos, Ange backed up the data she had gathered into AK-12's and 45's Neural Cloud, then tasked 404 with escorting the Nytos back to the surface, excluding the squad from the oncoming fight with Captain Yegor's Ares mech to avoid putting 45 on the frontline again after the Great Retreat. She also gave 45 the directions to her safe house in Putryntsi, Ukraine, where she would find the pay for their mission and access to her personal bank account in case she died while fighting Yegor. Angelia hoped 45 wouldn't misuse the access to her bank account and empty it, but her trust was misplaced. 45 put 9 and G11 in charge of finishing the escort mission while she and 416 went to reinforce the Commander as they were pinned down by KCCO troops while setting up explosives on the base's sea valves. 45 and 416 then escorted the Commander back after AR Team and SL8's team arrived to break through the enemy cordon, barely escaping the base's flooding. | |||
===Zeratul-Worcester Pharmaceuticals=== | |||
In the weeks following the Paldiski Submarine Base battle, Squad 404 followed Angelia's standing orders to protect the young Nytos and helped bring G&K's Area S09 base back to normal operations. The Commander also sent them to investigate an active server in the abandoned headquarters of Zeratul-Worcester Pharmaceuticals, a company suspected to be providing drugs to Paradeus. When Anna revealed she had sneaked aboard the squad's transport to understand her own life before becoming an experiment subject, 45 threatened to throw her overboard but Anna insisted some of the memories implanted in her mind concerned Z-W Pharma, convincing 45 not to go back on her word to protect the young Nytos. | |||
In the building, 404 were trapped in the basements by Destroyer and Dreamer, who abducted Anna. Detecting the power consumption from Destroyer's recharge station, 404 climbed back up using the cord of a broken elevator. Finding the ringleaders in a state of disrepair, 45 was about to notify the Commander when 416 opened fire without warning, wounding Destroyer before 45 ordered her to stop. 45 relayed to the ringleaders the Commander's offer to join G&K, but Dreamer refused and 404 let them go as ordered. 45 used a Svarog Heavy Industries target designator to mark them for capture, recovered Anna and seized the drugs samples and servers in the building. | |||
Distressed by her inability to prevent Anna's capture, G11 asked 45 to have Dier give her an upgrade, which 45 payed with the money siphoned from Ange's bank account. While 45 supported the idea in spite of 416's reservations in order to make G11 more independent and prevent another situation like her abduction during the Paldiski battle, she quickly changed her mind after finding that G11 had become unbearably energetic, only 45's angry looks making her calm down. G11 ran away at night after 45 threatened to kill her when she woke up the rest of the team in the middle of a night recharge, and 45 gave 416 the tracker for G11's external battery to get her back. 45, 9 and Dier then waited for G11 and 416 to stop fighting before bringing them back, and 45 gave Dier two days to fix his mistake and make G11 act normal again. | |||
===Berlin=== | |||
When Griffin Lyons called the Commander to Berlin and had them kidnap Machlian in the Paradeus community of Bohnsdorf, Helian hired and sent Squad 404 to Germany to assist them. 45 helped the Commander and AR Team navigate the Dolls-kidnapping gangs of Alt-Berlin as they met with Angelia, then monitored the bar Athena's Owl during their meeting. 45 became suspicious of RPK-16's behavior while watching over a conversation between AR Team and DEFY. | |||
After Machlian's memories revealed the locations of several locations in Berlin where Paradeus had planted explosives in preparation for Operation Cocoon, the Commander deployed Squad 404 to locate and disarm the explosives at the first site in an abandoned U-Bahn station. Though 45 was confident to have disarmed every bomb, Machlian directed them to the site of one last bomb equipped with a signal jammer that 404 had overlooked. While conducting the same mission in Bohnsdorf, the Commander had 404 wait outside the village to secure their escape route. During the operation in the Berlin prison, 404 were sent with Dandelion to secure the prison's control room, then praised the Commander for having fought back ELIDs by themselves. | |||
When the team raided the abandoned Paradeus labs in Sector D8, AR Team, the Commander, Dandelion and Machlian entered the building while leaving Squad Griffin and Squad 404 to patrol the lab's surroundings in order to conceal 404's presence to the enemy. When a powerful jammer activated, 404 infiltrated the base through the air vents and searched for the base's control room. They passed through a cloning lab, where 45 mercy-killed some failed test subjects who were still alive, and found one of the sources of the jamming, a bespoke system to suppress Dandelion. After battling Paradeus units to reach the control room, 45 and 9 found an intricate electronic defense system made of jammers protected with dedicated encryption, and which could only be deactivated if all were hacked at the same time. However, 404 still managed to crack the system and take down the jamming in time just as Morridow (Enemy) and Narciss cornered the Commander's group, enabling M4A1 to take remote control of Dandelion and use her new powers to leave Narciss for dead and capture Morridow. | |||
Having brought Morridow back to Griffin's hideout, Squad 404 hacked into her mind and, disguising themselves as Nytos, interrogated Morridow under the guise of an after-action report ordered by her Father. 404 had to abort after Morridow discovered the ruse and started attacking 416's Neural Cloud. While no solid intel was obtained, 45 noticed in Morridow's mind patches of sealed information like in Machlian's mind, but the Commander refused to take the risk to send Squad 404 back in to obtain them. | |||
{{ | When M4A1 awakened again after the fight, she emitted a signal so powerful that it crashed 45 along with SOP-II and RO. When Gray (Enemy) offered a hostage exchange between Angelia and Morridow, 404 failed to trace back the call and 45 advised against the exchange as Morridow had learned a lot about the team from being their prisoner, but the Commander decided to seize the opportunity to save Ange and possibly approach William. When the deal turned sour and the Commander's forces were left empty-handed and under Paradeus attack, 45 ordered 9, 416 and G11 to cover the rest of the the team's retreat as the only Dolls with a Neural Cloud backup, but 45 still took point and led her squad against the enemy despite her own self-imposed mortality. After hearing about the enormous cash prize for playing The Division at the Griffin base, 45 dragged Squad 404 into the tournament, using the very terse name “aaaa” as her player name. Though she was serious about getting the money, 45 advised her team not to take the game too seriously since they wouldn't die when defeated, and she also reveled in the occasion to play some tricks on the Griffin Dolls. After entering the game, 45 cheated to inspect the players data and noticed a player connected from Dier's house. | |||
Soon after entering the game, Squad 404 was forced to start a fire after G11 was killed by the freezing cold. 45 stopped 9 when she started a conversation about Doll condition, saying she would end up as a lunatic like the Sangvis Dolls if she thought too much about it. As 45 was explaining her plan to whittle down the other players' strength by ruse instead of seeking fights, they were interrupted by a drunk Simonov who wandered nearby, and 45 killed her with a headshot by force of habit from when she trained at the Griffin target range. | |||
As 404 observed the encounter between M870 and Springfield's team, 45 ordered 416 to throw a flashbang between them to provoke a fight, but Springfield's team retreated instead. Since Springfield was too cautious to get into fights and 416 was annoyed by 45's treatment of her after Springfield took care of 404 many times while they stayed at the Griffin base, 45 elected to focus their attention on manipulating M870 and had 9 throw a rock at her to make her pick a fight with Vector and VSK-94 who were passing by. While M870 appeared to let them go at first, she suddenly proclaimed to be charging them for illegal possession of firearms and attacked VSK-94, sending 45 into a laughing fit. Unwilling to risk a fight with the elite Vector, 45 targeted the other two members of her team, K5 and R93, but 416 lost patience with 45's slow-moving plan and she forced the team into a more aggressive strategy. 45 left 9 with 416 to carry out her own plans. Soon after, 9 was killed soon by a concealed suitcase bomb. 45 figured that the Griffin Dolls were too lucky to keep her plan going and called on 416 to enter the Dark Zone with her. On the way, they were attacked by Hellfire, and 45, wanting to try playing the role of a villain, dropped a stun grenade that immobilized 416 to leave her behind as bait. With the Kandel Formulation pills already in her inventory, 45 entered the Dark Zone and took the flare gun from Dima to call the evac chopper and win the game by herself. Having noticed that Dima's reactions were too human for an NPC and that she seemed to fear her specifically, 45 deduced she was actually Dier's avatar. While she easily dispatched the last wave of computer enemies, 45 was killed by Vector who had overwhelming specs advantage, and she resigned herself to let 416 win the game for 404. When Dier was exposed by 416 and he revealed that there never was a real cash prize, 45 angrily armed herself with a folding chair and started toward Dier's mansion, and 9 followed her with their guns. | |||

and are subcontracted by Griffin & Kryuger HQ to mock-steal the Star of Glory, a jewel owned by their client. By faking a robbery during her birthday party, the client hopes she can live her remaining years without worrying about thieves. The client lends dresses to 9 and 45 so they can blend in with the guests. The Commander is also tasked to select some of their own Dolls for the roles of guards and robbers. | |||
During the party, 45 makes contact with the Commander, identifying herself with the "I've brought misfortune" passphrase she used when she delivered them from Paradeus. 45 pushes back against the Commander's familiarities and complains that she isn't at ease at the big party, being more at ease in the shadows. The Commander's Dolls initiate the robbery and the UMP sisters make a radio call to under the name of Griffin HQ, instructing her to give the jewel to 9. Grizzly doesn't fall for the trick but 9 incapacitates her with a taser and is about to leave with the jewel when she runs into , who takes back the jewel since 9 is no match for her in combat. | |||

UMP45 | Story | Quotes | Live2D |
Personality[edit]
UMP45, usually shortened to “45”, is a rogue Tactical Doll and the leader of the black ops mercenaries of Squad 404. Her driven and coldly aggressive personality, the result of a significant betrayal, is thinly veiled by her dry humor, and serves to conceal a deeper goodness of soul she shows only rarely.[1] She is described as wearing an ominous smile.[2] Her ultimate goal is to identify and take revenge on the mastermind behind the Butterfly Incident, who used her and SMG UMP40UMP40UMP40 as pawns and caused 40's death.[3][4] 45 dislikes self-giving and heroic people like AR Team as she considers that life is too precious to be thrown away,[5] a philosophy she inherited from UMP40.[6][7] However, she also hides a measure of admiration for those who can sacrifice themselves for others.[8] Before meeting 40, 45 thought that all Dolls like herself were disposable[9] and her base personality was more defeatist.[10] Her prickly personality leads 45 to reject the attention of people trying to look out for her. Though she hides it, she wants to live a peaceful life one day.[2]
45's skills in electronic warfare are considered second-to-none among T-Dolls,[11][12] even higher than those of AR AK-12AK-12AK-12 from Task Force DEFY.[13] Her combat specs are however quite low, so she relies on infiltration, guerilla warfare and hit-and-run tactics during operations.[14] She sometimes uses German expletives like the rest of her team,[15] and her preferred alcoholic beverage is beer.[16]
“ | Let go of your pathetic pride and join us for real... Only if we be their stain will they truly value us.[17] | ” |
---|
45 always takes up opportunities to gain money[18][19] and freebies[20] or to shirk from making payments.[21][22] During missions, she makes sure Squad 404 sticks close to the terms of their contracts and that they don't do anything they are not being paid for[23] or who would place them in too much danger,[17] including expending the lives of people besides their protection targets.[24][12] She is however much less demanding when her personal goals are involved.[14]
45 often mocks 416's pride as an elite T-Doll[25][17][26] and her thirst for revenge against AR M16A1M16A1M16A1,[27] while 416 loathes 45's dishonorable methods[28][29] and occasional recklessness.[14] Despite their hostility, 416's opinion of 45 softened with time[30] and 45 suffered grave injuries to protect 416 during the battle against the KCCO.[31] 45 considered 416 next in line to command Squad 404 if she was destroyed,[32] but she also insisted that 416 was free to leave the team at any moment.[33] 416 ensured 45's life was saved after she was hurt protecting her and recognized her abilities even if she disagreed with her methods.[34][29][35] After proclaiming herself UMP45's little sister, 9 is dedicated to help her reach her goal and follows all her orders while waiting for the time 45 will talk to her about her past.[36][37] 9 greatly admires 45's abilities and determination, but is aware that she will never be her equal even if she receives upgrades, and that she will never match 40's importance in 45's eyes.[38] 45 doesn't treat 9 differently from the rest of 404 or spare her from her harsh words and jokes.[39][16][40] While G11 is too meek to respond to 45's teasing, she values 45 since she is the core of Squad 404 and she would have nowhere to go if she died and 404 was disbanded.[5]
Main Story[edit]
Origins[edit]
UMP45 was created as a Dual-Track DSI-8 model SY Sangvis Ferri model, serial number SF/DSB1-3873. This makes her the same model as SMG UMP40UMP40UMP40, serial number SF/DSB1-0671,[41] as well as Destroyer, serial number SF/DSB1-0138, and Dreamer, serial number SF/DSB1-0139, before they were modified.[42] The DSI-8 is “Dual Track” due to its ability to switch freely between Zener Protocol and OGAS operating systems.[5] 40 and 45 were selected to be infiltrated into Griffin & Kryuger and cause the Butterfly Incident. With 40 as the main unit and 45 as a backup, they were modified with hidden command authorizations and all their previous records were deleted before being delivered to G&K, with 45 arriving some time after 40.[43]
After joining G&K, 45's commander ruled her out at useless because of her low combat efficiency, and denied her the right to rest or receive Dummies until she could get a passing grade during training.[44] However, 45's performances were intrinsically limited by her low-spec Fire Control Core and specialization in electronic modules. 40 adopted 45 as her little sister, wrote off the commander as a bad leader for only caring about combat performances, and encouraged 45 to make friends, arguing that they were outfitted with emotion modules because humans wanted Dolls to act like them.[5]
40 connected to 45 by cable to transfer her combat data as well as some photos, stressing that they had the right to make private transfers without a human's permission.[45] 40 also invited 45 to her room, where she had installed a wall of LED screens to display videos of a pre-war beach in the Maldives from a video library she found during a mission,[10] and the two Dolls promised to survive, get stronger bodies[1] and go to this place one day.[32] The data from 40's thousands of training sessions was only marginally useful[10] but training further with 40 enabled 45 to improve her training score from 30 to 60%.[46] Meeting 45 had solved 40's loneliness, but their connection informed her that 45's Neural Cloud was the same as her own, due to 45 being her backup for the sole purpose of creating the Butterfly Incident. Horrified that they were being used as disposable pawns, 40 started planning her own sacrifice, and 45's survival.[47]
Butterfly Incident[edit]
When 40 and 45 were selected as part of the T-Dolls lent by G&K to Statesec for Operation Butterfly, 45 was worried about being deployed in a real battle but hoped that with they would earn recognition for providing electronic support and receive better bodies, though 40 was not as optimistic.[46] Statesec ordered the Dolls to replace their G&K command authorizations and install their confidential safeguard program, which could destroy a Doll's Neural Cloud to prevent data leaks. However, 40 asked 45 to change her command authorizations so 40 would be her commander by proxy, pretending this would save storage space.[48] 40 and 45 were assigned to Support Squad 14 and met AR M16A1M16A1M16A1, Squad 7's leader, and her teammate AR HK416HK416HK416 who dismissed Squad 14 as useless.[49] When 416 was expelled from the operation, she asked her teammates to apologize to 45 in her behalf, because she had mocked her (and potentially attacked her).[50]
At the start of the mission, after Squad 14 easily took over the systems of the factory at Sangvis Base 0 with their OGAS mode, 45 gave 40 complete access to her Neural Cloud[51] to serve as a computation support passthrough to 40, who executed the hacking operations.[9] As the main squads reached Lycoris, an unknown frequency ordered 40 and 45 to execute Order 61, and 40 used the hidden module in her Neural Cloud. Moments later, all Dolls went berserk as they became trapped in the base and all external signals were blocked. 40 and 45 had to fight back as they made their way toward the base's exit.[52][53]
“ | I will not tolerate them toying with your destiny as well. I cannot break the shackles on myself, but at least I can release you from yours. That's why no matter what, you must live on. Even T-Dolls have a reason to live for their own sake. Not for anyone. YOUR own sake. [...] Goodbye, 45. Just remember me...because to me, that is my sole and total joy...[6] | ” |
---|
As 40 and 45 reached the exit of the base, Elisa awakened and locked the door to their exit. 40 revealed to 45 she was the cause of the massacre[7][53] and announced that their safeguard programs had been activated and would kill them both unless one of them died. She ordered 45 to kill her so she could have a death appropriate for a T-Doll instead of having her Neural Cloud destroyed.[7] In reality, all the Dolls except for 45 had been infected by an early form of the Parapluie virus,[4] and only 40's Neural Cloud was being destroyed since her schemes had protected 45. She implored 45 to value her life and live it for its own sake with no regard for the opinions of others, and thought that forcing 45 to sacrifice her would reinforce these values.[6] 40 passed her dog tags and gear to 45 and forced back open the base's exit before 45 killed her.[7]
At the base's exit, 45 met M16A1 and denied knowing about the cause of the incident. With her magazine empty and unable to match an elite T-Dolls' fighting strength, 45 fled to another exit,[54] but M16 quickly caught up to her and pinned her down. With Elisa now in control of her body, M16 left and the wounded 45 fled Sangvis Base 0.[8]
45's memories of the Butterfly Incidents and 40 became locked at Consciousness Level III and tied to 45's body rather than her Neural Cloud.[1] This caused 45's memories of 40 to become hazy,[10] but she clung to them with her life.[34]
Those Who Don't Exist[edit]
45 met SMG UMP9UMP9UMP9 when she was still an A-Doll named Reina, who was forced to work for a gang of Doll kidnappers in a small Yellow Zone city. Having immediately noticed her signal, 45 eventually approached her, and Reina asked her help to destroy the server controlling the Dolls captured by the gang, in exchange for all her savings.[55]
Being in a position to help a Doll used as a pawn by humans like she had been,[56] and having previously left a backdoor in Reina's Neural Cloud to kill her if she tried to trick her again, 45 and Reina hacked into the seemingly unprotected server from a nearby building, but triggered an offensive firewall when 45 deactivated the restriction module. Reina disconnected from the server first, forcing 45 to take her place in the restriction list. However, Reina immediately felt regret for tricking 45 twice after she forgave her the first time and went back into the server, but found it completely emptied by 45.[55] 45 then incapacitated Reina and asked her about her motivations. Reina came clean about her regrets in tricking 45 and that she had no money to pay her to begin with, and 45 decided to let her go a second time, advising her to live a peaceful life.
Reina thought that 45 had acted toward her like humans did toward their families, and decided to become 45's little sister.[56] Going back to the server, Reina hacked into the gang's bank account and used the money to buy a UMP9 submachine gun and gear similar to 45's,[37] but inadvertently made trouble for 45, as the gang thought she was the hacker and went after her while her gun was empty and she couldn't fight back.[56] Reina, now calling herself UMP9, rescued 45, but 45 rejected her at first, as she didn't want to share the burdens of her past with someone else. UMP9 insisted, as following 45 would not make her life more dangerous than it already was, and proved her resolve by slashing her eye to match 45. Though 45 pointed out she had slashed the wrong eye, she accepted 9's devotion and promised to tell her about her past one day.[37]
9 and 45 never talked about how they met to 416 and G11,[57] who believed for several years that the UMPs really were sister models.[34]
“ | I didn't choose to run away, and I didn't choose to live a miserable life. I'm going to find the culprit who killed everyone and caused the passing of my best friend. I've taken steps to obtain weapons that I can use to fight, found better modules, and I've even found friends I can work with. [...] You talk about wanting to go back and find her, but you can't even protect that illegal Doll by your side! What can you accomplish just by wanting something?[26] | ” |
---|
After Dier restored 416's authorizations,[26] 45 sent her take down the thugs' base, and 416 completed the mission flawlessly. 416 was initially reluctant to ask Dier to make the maid Doll into a T-Doll so she could survive by herself, as she didn't want to force her choice on her like M16 did by quicking her from G&K, but 45 pointed out that 416 had already forced a choice on the maid Doll when saving her. The maid Doll joined the team, newly christened Squad 404 by 45, under the name AR G11G11G11.[58]
Dier later revealed to 416 that 45 had already paid for two Fire Control Cores before bringing 416 and G11 to him the day she found them, as she had decided to help them survive from the start.[30]
Griffin contracts[edit]
404 was contracted by Griffin & Kryuger to find information about Agent's involvement in the fight with AR Team at Safe House 3. Following Agent's trace, they uncovered intel about Plan Parapluie. Since AR M16A1M16A1M16A1 operated in the same area, 416 went her own way to fight with her, and 45 later fetched 416 after she was beaten by M16. 45 left M16 with a clue about Parapluie, warning her that “It's raining on the plain”.[59][60]
After Sangvis Ferri attempted to eliminate Berezovich Kryuger as part of Plan Parapluie, G&K launched a counterattack and hired Squad 404 to destroy a radio jammer in Area S06,[25] naming the mission “Operation Cube”.[61] Using intel from HG SPP-1SPP-1SPP-1, 404 launched guerilla attacks against Hunter, then Executioner and Ouroboros. Ouroboros rigged the jammer with explosives and had Executioner activate them after luring 404 in,[62] but the squad managed to escape the explosion thanks to 45's bluff: using Executioner's sense of comradery, she exchanged the alleged location of Hunter's body against extra time to escape the trap. 45 then tracked down and eliminated Ouroboros,[61] bringing back her neural core to G&K.[63] However, 45 was infected with the new Parapluie virus while hacking into the fake Sangvis Ferri jammer during the mission.[61]
After AR ST AR-15ST AR-15ST AR-15 sacrificed herself to blow up a building containing one of Elisa's dummies, Angelia dispatched 404 to recover AR-15's body parts and rebuild her as part of Task Force DEFY. AR-15 was initially reluctant to accept the debt Angelia had burdened her with, but 45 pointed out that using her improved body was one way to figure out the source of her own will.[64][65]
Operation Hypothermia[edit]
G&K hired Squad 404 again to rescue AR Team after their aircraft crash-landed in a Sangvis Ferri Jupiter Cannon testing field in Area S03. 416 started suspecting that 45 was compromised by Parapluie after seeing her talk secretly with a Sangvis signal[66] some time before Architect detected their position, but 45 revealed that she was in fact talking with the infiltrated G&K T-Doll SG M1887M1887M1887. After luring Architect out of her base by faking a predictable attack pattern, 404 joined forces with AR Team. Curious about SMG RO635RO635RO635 after hearing from her through M16, 45 picked her brain, asking if she was comfortable being considered a mere replacement for AR M4A1M4A1M4A1, and advising her not to become trapped into someone else's role. RO replied that she accepted her role for the time being, and following M16's warning about 45 considering people outside her targets to be expendable, she reaffirmed that she would be in charge of the mission and not 45. Her assurance left 45's curiosity satisfied.[24]
RO replied that it was her role to do so as M4's replacement, and 45 commented that she envied her naivety before wiping the memories of 404 from the G&K T-Dolls.[17]
Drone retrieval[edit]
After AR Team's mission in Sangvis Base 0, Persica hired Squad 404 through Angelia to recover the drone containing the footage of Lycoris' last moments recovered by M16,[67] which was shot down by Dreamer[68] in the nearby Area S15. Aside from the unusually large sum of money they would earn from the contract,[69] 45 was also interested in returning to the location of the Butterfly Incident.[7]
9 and 45 trained their squadmates before the operation,[70] but the new protocol kept erroneously replaying memories of 40.[71] 45 assured she could still operate normally,[72] but 9 asked Dier to monitor her electroneuralograph during the operation.
As Squad 404 entered Area S15, Dreamer detected 45's presence because of her Parapluie infection and dispatched Destroyer to eliminate them.[73] 45 at first ruled out Destroyer's taunts over the local PA system as a bluff and located the drone's position, but Destroyer then identified 45 by name.[74] While searching for a way to counter the virus surveillance,[5] 45 ordered 404 to continue the mission, whiled she acted as a bait to distract Destroyer. To ensure 45 would fall under SF's control once Elisa gave the order,[75] Dreamer asked Destroyer to stay within 3km of 45 in order to update the virus and rewrite her Neural Cloud's authorizations. 45 attempted to counter the attack by closing her external ports but struggled against some high-authorizations data flows.[5]
When Elisa activated Parapluie en masse while fighting G&K and the KCCO,[76] Dreamer relayed the Parapluie activation protocol to 45 and ordered her to attack Squad 404, but the protocol failed as 45 figured out that constantly switching between her Zener and OGAS operating systems let her counter the attack. Dreamer then used all available servers in her base to overload 45's Neural Cloud and destroy her. However, the connection was cut before it could kill 45 since Destroyer, who was still acting as a relay, was destroyed by G11 and RF DSR-50DSR-50DSR-50's combined sniper shots after exposing herself briefly to locate 45.[5] In order for Dier to remotely repair 45, 404 physically connected to her Neural Cloud and recovered enough data fragments to pull her back from consciousness level III to II, while fighting back against her automated defense programs. After over three hours of work,[77] 404 eventually assembled enough data fragments to let Dier take over as they fought off Destroyer's Gaia form.[36]
After 45 went through her memories of the Butterfly Incident, Dier managed to wake her up and she took back command of Squad 404 to take down Destroyer Gaia.[7]
The Great Retreat[edit]

As Sier directed 404 to their evac route away from Base 0, she relayed a G&K signal ordering all troops to retreat from Area S09 to Area S11 after the KCCO turned against them during the battle with Sangvis Ferri. Sensing an opportunity to gain extra money, 45 redirected 404 to the battlefield to assist G&K[78] in what the T-Dolls would later call “The Great Retreat”.[79]
During this operation, Angelia contacted 404 and ordered them send the Base 0 data back by drone to Sier instead of handing it to Persica directly, in order to make a copy. In exchange for information about the true mastermind behind the Butterfly Incident,[80] Angelia redirected the squad to Sangvis Ferri's central database[14] to uncover Elisa's position,[81][82] as AR AK-12AK-12AK-12 had reached her limit in electronic warfare due to Parapluie interference.[13] Despite heavy resistance from Gager, 45 had Squad 404 push through into the database while contacting Angelia for backup, and managed to secure encrypted data concerning OGAS, Elisa and M4A1.[14] Angelia deployed DEFY to break 404 out of the Sangvis encirclement, marking the first encounter between 45 and AR M4A1M4A1M4A1.[83] 45 was surprised to see that the Doll who had been described to her as caring and uncertain had become cold and ruthless.[64]
After the two teams collaborated to take down Gager[84] and moved toward capturing Elisa, Angelia tasked 45 with monitoring M4, whose behavior was increasingly suspicious.[85] 45 and 9 infiltrated M4's Neural Cloud, but 9 was quickly overwhelmed by M4's unique framework and 45 alone managed to eavesdrop on M4's internal conversation with her OGAS. 45 reported to Angelia that M4 had made a deal to meet Elisa at a certain place in exchange for the location of AR Team, and Angelia used this opportunity to plan Elisa's capture. 45 was aware the plan potentially involved DEFY and 404's destruction, but was willing to go through it to uncover more information about the target of her vengeance.[11]
Before coming offline, 45 gave the detonator of Angelia's Collapse bomb to M4.[31]
Since only the Commander would have the authority to mark a T-Doll for dismantlement, Kalina patched up 45's main power supply to keep her alive[34] while Dier lowered her consciousness to Level III to conserve power.[33] She was later airlifted by 404's own evac airship with 9 and G11, while 416 participated in the operation to rescue the Commander.[86]
Neural Upgrade[edit]
After being transported to Dier's lab, 45 insisted to be repaired instead of having her body replaced, regardless of the costs, the level of ability she could recover or the possibility to lose her consciousness. She also refused to have her Neural Cloud backed up for safety, as she would lose her sense of self. Due to her base memory usage being tailored for electronic warfare, extensive mutilation and the already difficult maintenance due to the rarity of compatible parts with her long discontinued DSI-8 body and various alterations already made to her frame, complete recovery was deemed impossible.
“ | ...I get it, and I promise. Although this isn't the time yet... When the day comes, I'll bury you, along with this body, with my own hands.[1] | ” |
---|
Dier needed to resort to experimental changes with old parts kits from his depot. The risk of compatibility problems contaminating her control system would normally be fixed with a reboot after tweaking low-level control sequence code, but her state could make the reboot fail, which would lock her Neural Cloud in Level III and make her comatose with no hope of recovery.[32] As 45's consciousness was locked to Level III for maintenance, 45 made contact with the weak OGAS who had emerged in her subconscious after she was infected by Parapluie, taking the form of 40.[87] Because of their identical Neural Cloud base and 45 longing to see her friend again, OGAS was able to convincingly replicate 40 from 45's memories. 40 also asked if 45 had made friends and 45 reluctantly admitted that she had by forming Squad 404.[1] The experience revivified the ideals 40 had imparted to 45.
With IOP footing the bill for the rescue, which would go toward compensating Dier for his work,[29] 45 spent a week to prepare the operation. She managed to hack all four Nytos interrogating the Commander to warn them of 404's arrival, and that they should make the interrogation drag on as long as possible. She hid a short-range transmitter and a pistol close to hand, and warned that she would hack one of the Nytos again to open the room from the inside and identify herself with the passphrase “I brought misfortune”.[88]
After infiltrating the hospital and sabotaging the surveillance cameras and guards,[89] 45 remotely deactivated the Commander's restraints, enabling them to shoot three of the Nytos as they were about to kill them, while leaving the fourth one hacked by 45 alive to open the locked door.[90] 45 and 416 carried the Commander outside and passed them on to the G&K Dolls.[91] 404 then disappeared for some time during the Belgrade events.[2]
To Paldiski[edit]
Squad 404 was hired by both the Commander and Persica to assist the operations concerning the Paldiski Submarine Base. While G&K's mission was to provide electronic warfare support, Persica hired them to monitor AR Team.[92] 45 readily took the mission as it would reveal more about the mastermind behind the Butterfly Incident.[92][93] In case of a repeat of the Base 0 battle,[92] 45 paid Dier to upgrade 416's electronic warfare abilities,[94] as well as 9's after she requested to be upgraded too.[38] As G&K's train convoy approached Tallinn, 45 detected two signals with a protocol different than Zener, one belonging to M4's OGAS and another from the city trying to invade her Neural Cloud, similar to the Parapluie attack during Butterfly.[92] She detected that M4 was also being targeted by the connections.
As AR Team entered the city, the Commander detached 404 on a supplementary mission to neutralize a power station in the outskirts, powering a network of automated turrets.[95] Accessing the station through the city's sewers, 45 hacked into the local network to take down the force fields of the drones and turret before planting explosives. When the station exploded, the burst of connections from the city nearly overwhelmed 45.[96] After 404 retraced their steps back to Tallinn, the signal density interfered with their Neural Clouds, causing them to see fog and a dark sky in broad daylight. 45 then isolated one of the signals and attempted to trace back its source deeper into the city.[97]
The source of the signal was the corpse of an Isomer (Enemy). As 45 inspected it, the Isomer's gestalt mind interfaced with her Consciousness Level III, probing her memories to determine if she was a Chosen One or someone who could free them from Tallinn. Though they ruled 45 out, they learned about the existence of M4A1, whom 45 warned about the enemy's interest.[98] The nature of the Isomers piqued Persica's interest, and she encouraged M4 to connect with the gestalt, while secretly asking 45 and 9 to infiltrate her Neural Cloud and intercept the data they exchanged. Like during the Great Retreat, the large dataflow from M4's Neural Cloud quickly overwhelmed 9, leaving only 45 to monitor her.[99] 45 observed the inverted forest forming the base of M4's Neural Cloud and attempted to investigate the mansion in her memories, but was noticed by M4's OGAS, who ejected her[100] and caused the Isomers to attack her. 416 and 9 provided electronic warfare support so 45 would disconnect as her body started to overheat, but 45 decided to push through, transmitting the data she had acquired to 9 before losing the connection with her team.[101]
After OGAS discovered the origins of Isomer White,[102] she attempted to make M4 and herself coalesce with the Isomers,[103] but M4 was saved by AR-15 while 45 assembled every data possible before the connection would break,[104] and discovered the origins of the Parapluie virus and its connection to OGAS. She also realized that the manifestation of 40 in her Level III was probably a feeble OGAS who appeared after she was infected by Parapluie back during Operation Cube.
“ | Are you freaking kidding me?! Do you still think of yourself as a tragic heroine? Ja, you ARE special, but if you let this go on, you will end up getting yourself, your team, and the entirety of Griffin killed. This is the moment of truth, AR M4A1M4A1M4A1. This decision may cost you your peaceful status quo, but running away will cost you your entire future. You think just because that voice disappeared, everything's over? No, this is merely the beginning! | ” |

Before leaving the gestalt mind, 45 sensed the Isomers connecting with the KCCO train convoy approaching the city, and considered leaving with 404 before Tallinn turned into a battlefield. While M4 believed OGAS had left her Neural Cloud, 45 understood that their connection could not be broken and encouraged M4 to get her OGAS back.[87] Though she understood OGAS was the source of the conspiracy, 45 accepted that their power would be needed to bring it to an end.[8] After M4 voiced her skepticism, 45 became frustrated to see M4 not using the power at her disposal, and pushed AR Team to question M4 about her recent seemingly impossible electronic warfare feats, so M4 would come forward and make better use of OGAS. After the Commander decided to hijack one of the KCCO's armored trains,[87] they sent 404 to infiltrate the train's system with AR Team providing covering fire,[105] giving AR Team access to the train's cannons to fight back against the rest of the KCCO convoy.[106]
After the Commander's train gained ground on the KCCO, 45 and 9 tried to fight Dandelion after AR M4 SOPMOD IIM4 SOPMOD IIM4 SOPMOD II located her, then escorted her back inside the train when the Commander identified her as an ally. 45 insisted to receive a bonus for the embarrassment of carrying back the hacked SOP-II.[107] 45 and 416 then followed AR Team to fend off the KCCO troops harassing them while 9 and G11 repaired the train's main power. 45 was displeased that 9 did not meet the repairs deadline and threatened to put her Neural Cloud in G11's body during the next maintenance as punishment.[39] As the train approached Paldiski and with every other systems busy computing strategic data, Kalina requested that 45 reconstruct the intel files transmitted by DEFY, which informed them of the team's situation in the base.[108] Having reflected on her own shortcomings during the Great Retreat, 416 advised the increasingly agitated 45 to not sacrifice her friends and her future to get answers about her past in Paldiski, but 45 ignored her.[108][109]
Paldiski Incident[edit]
After the armored train arrived before the Paldiski Submarine Base, Squad 404 were deployed by the Commander to infiltrate the security perimeter of the base and open the gates. Since 45's OGAS was too weak to be of assistance, Dandelion offered to strengthen 45's resistance to the pull of the networked consciousnesses, reinforced by the Starfish inside the base, by giving her access to her Neural Cloud base layer, but 45 refused as she did not trust Dandelion.[110]
At the base's defense wall, 45 and 9 hacked into the sewer access and reached the interior of the wall. Leaving 9 and G11 to guard their retreat, 45 and 416 closed in on DEFY's last coordinates to find the gate's controls. Due to the presence of forced connections like in Tallinn, 45 ordered 404 to limit their networked communications to a minimum, only sending sitreps by burst transmissions.[111] After a brief fire exchange with MG RPK-16RPK-16RPK-16 and AR AK-15AK-15AK-15, who thought 404 were enemies due to their lack of Zener signal, 45 and 416 reached the gate's controls[112] and opened the gates before regrouping with 9 and G11 to find Angelia deeper into the base. RPK-16 offered to have AK-15 go with them but 45 refused to work with an unfamiliar Doll,[113] She however gave RPK-16 the Commander's communication channel. As she sent her sitrep to the Commander, 45 picked up Yegor's surrender offer and praised the Commander for completely ignoring him.[114]
Deeper in the base, 404 were remotely attacked by M16A1 (Boss), who used Intruder concealed nearby as a proxy.[54] M16 warned 404 to go back, arguing that 45 shouldn't risk the lives of her team for her own goals, but 45 had no intention of turning back, even after admitting she was not any more of a match against M16 as she was during Butterfly. M16 tried to send 45's consciousness to Level III as 40's replica might convince her, but 45 resisted the attack and told M16 that unlike her, whose past was a burden, 45's own past pushed her forward. After failing to convince anyone in 404, M16 had Sangvis Ferri troops attack the squad, then launched another electronic attack that managed to take down 45 while she was distracted during her retreat.[115]
The attack forced 45 to replay her memories of the Butterfly Incident again as she worked her way back to full consciousness.[53] M16 did not attempt to take over 45's authorizations as a normal electronic attack would, but only forced access to her memories of the Butterfly Incident[116] in order to recover her own memories she had lost.[117] 404 fought off the SF troops while 45 was down and located Intruder's signal. When she came to, 45 ordered to track Intruder down to prevent another electronic attack from M16.[54] Intruder's signal drew 404 deeper into the base, where the lack of main power had locked many doors. Using the closed-circuit communication system of the base powered by emergency generators, 404 located Angelia's position and made their way there.[118] 45 continued to fend off M16's electronic attacks in an attempt to backtrace her way into M16's Neural Cloud to gain intel on the base. She insisted to do so alone in case of a viral attack, but 416 convinced her to let 9 provide calculation support,[116] which eventually enabled 45 to get the data and kill the forced connection.
“ | I don't give a damn about why it happened. There was no reason for them to have died there to begin with! What I'm doing is to make the one responsible for all of this pay! From the moment I escaped alive, to recruiting all of you for this team and helping Ange and Griffin, my objective has never changed, not in the slightest! [...] All I know is that if I don't keep moving forward, then everything I've done up till now might have been for nothing. I cannot tolerate the idea that the bastard behind all this might end up having the last laugh.[35] | ” |
---|
45 was the only one who could fit in the crawl space and gave chase while 416 and 9 went to destroy the jammer.[35]
At the other end of the crawl space, 45's Neural Cloud was attacked by the young Nytos found by Angelia in the Paradeus labs, but she was woken up after Angelia identified her as an ally. 45 entered Anna's mind to repel M16's attack on the young Nytos and awaken them to use their access authorizations and lift the quarantine of the labs.[119] 45 allowed M16's signal to access her memories again, but modified them into alternative versions, frustrating M16 until she sent her consciousness in person. 45 tried to take her on with electronic attacks,[117] but M16's and her OGAS' processing power was far above 45's and she sent her consciousness back to Level III. Before releasing 45, Elisa asked her not to get in her way as she tried to coalesce with the Starfish at the bottom of the base, claiming it would reveal all answers about Butterfly.[8]
With the lab quarantine lifted by the Nytos, Ange backed up the data she had gathered into AR AK-12AK-12AK-12's and 45's Neural Cloud, then tasked 404 with escorting the Nytos back to the surface, excluding the squad from the oncoming fight with Captain Yegor's Ares mech to avoid putting 45 on the frontline again after the Great Retreat. She also gave 45 the directions to her safe house in Putryntsi, Ukraine, where she would find the pay for their mission and access to her personal bank account in case she died while fighting Yegor.[120] Angelia hoped 45 wouldn't misuse the access to her bank account and empty it,[121] but her trust was misplaced.[19] 45 put 9 and G11 in charge of finishing the escort mission while she and 416 went to reinforce the Commander as they were pinned down by KCCO troops while setting up explosives on the base's sea valves.[120] 45 and 416 then escorted the Commander back after AR Team and RF SL8SL8SL8's team arrived to break through the enemy cordon, barely escaping the base's flooding.[122][123]
Zeratul-Worcester Pharmaceuticals[edit]
In the weeks following the Paldiski Submarine Base battle, Squad 404 followed Angelia's standing orders to protect the young Nytos and helped bring G&K's Area S09 base back to normal operations.[124] The Commander also sent them to investigate an active server in the abandoned headquarters of Zeratul-Worcester Pharmaceuticals, a company suspected to be providing drugs to Paradeus. When Anna revealed she had sneaked aboard the squad's transport to understand her own life before becoming an experiment subject, 45 threatened to throw her overboard but Anna insisted some of the memories implanted in her mind concerned Z-W Pharma, convincing 45 not to go back on her word to protect the young Nytos.[125]
In the building, 404 were trapped in the basements by Destroyer and Dreamer, who abducted Anna.[126] Detecting the power consumption from Destroyer's recharge station, 404 climbed back up using the cord of a broken elevator.[127] Finding the ringleaders in a state of disrepair, 45 was about to notify the Commander when 416 opened fire without warning, wounding Destroyer before 45 ordered her to stop. 45 relayed to the ringleaders the Commander's offer to join G&K, but Dreamer refused and 404 let them go as ordered. 45 used a Svarog Heavy Industries target designator to mark them for capture, recovered Anna and seized the drugs samples and servers in the building.[128]
Distressed by her inability to prevent Anna's capture, G11 asked 45 to have Dier give her an upgrade, which 45 payed with the money siphoned from Ange's bank account. While 45 supported the idea in spite of 416's reservations in order to make G11 more independent[19] and prevent another situation like her abduction during the Paldiski battle,[129] she quickly changed her mind after finding that G11 had become unbearably energetic, only 45's angry looks making her calm down.[19] G11 ran away at night after 45 threatened to kill her when she woke up the rest of the team in the middle of a night recharge, and 45 gave 416 the tracker for G11's external battery to get her back.[130] 45, 9 and Dier then waited for G11 and 416 to stop fighting before bringing them back, and 45 gave Dier two days to fix his mistake and make G11 act normal again.[21]
Berlin[edit]
When Griffin Lyons called the Commander to Berlin and had them kidnap Machlian in the Paradeus community of Bohnsdorf, Helian hired and sent Squad 404 to Germany to assist them. 45 helped the Commander and AR Team navigate the Dolls-kidnapping gangs of Alt-Berlin as they met with Angelia,[131] then monitored the bar Athena's Owl during their meeting. 45 became suspicious of MG RPK-16RPK-16RPK-16's behavior while watching over a conversation between AR Team and DEFY.[132]
After Machlian's memories revealed the locations of several locations in Berlin where Paradeus had planted explosives in preparation for Operation Cocoon, the Commander deployed Squad 404 to locate and disarm the explosives at the first site in an abandoned U-Bahn station. Though 45 was confident to have disarmed every bomb, Machlian directed them to the site of one last bomb equipped with a signal jammer that 404 had overlooked.[133] While conducting the same mission in Bohnsdorf, the Commander had 404 wait outside the village to secure their escape route.[134] During the operation in the Berlin prison, 404 were sent with Dandelion to secure the prison's control room,[135] then praised the Commander for having fought back ELIDs by themselves.[136]
When the team raided the abandoned Paradeus labs in Sector D8, AR Team, the Commander, Dandelion and Machlian entered the building while leaving Squad Griffin and Squad 404 to patrol the lab's surroundings[137] in order to conceal 404's presence to the enemy. After battling Paradeus units to reach the control room, 45 and 9 found an intricate electronic defense system made of jammers protected with dedicated encryption, and which could only be deactivated if all were hacked at the same time.[138] However, 404 still managed to crack the system and take down the jamming in time just as Morridow (Enemy) and Narciss cornered the Commander's group, enabling M4A1 to take remote control of Dandelion[139] and use her new powers to leave Narciss for dead and capture Morridow.[140]
Having brought Morridow back to Griffin's hideout, Squad 404 hacked into her mind and, disguising themselves as Nytos, interrogated Morridow under the guise of an after-action report ordered by her Father. 404 had to abort after Morridow discovered the ruse and started attacking 416's Neural Cloud.[141] While no solid intel was obtained, 45 noticed in Morridow's mind patches of sealed information like in Machlian's mind, but the Commander refused to take the risk to send Squad 404 back in to obtain them.[142]
When M4A1 awakened again after the fight, she emitted a signal so powerful that it crashed 45 along with SOP-II and RO. In the ensuing conversation, M4 encouraged 45 to consider herself part of the Commander's team instead of remaining an outsider but 45 rejected the notion.[143] When M4 interrogated Morridow by manipulating her mind, 45 monitored the signals she emitted and intercepted the locations of Iaso's Boxes production sites. AR Team went alone into the first site, the Commander staying outside under Squad 404's guard to avoid a repeat of the Sector D8 operation.[144] In the absence of dedicated repair support, 45 ran diagnostic on SOP-II after she was heavily damaged during the mission.[145]
404 were tasked with guard duty during the inspection of the site of the missing Galatea truck.[146] They were on another mission when AR Team tracked down the truck's missing cargo of Iaso's Boxes[147] but participated in the operation at the Berlin airport to intercept the cargo before it departed, and 45 dispelled the electronic attack that took down RO when Morridow kidnapped M4.[148] After M16 stopped Morridow and temporarily joined the team, 45 ignored her as much as possible[149] but was still annoyed that she later left without telling anyone but the Commander.[150] After investigating the Stasi black site,[151] the team rushed to save Nele from the fire started by Paradeus at her apartment and 45 neutralized the local communications jamming to call the police and fire department.[152]
When Gray (Enemy) offered a hostage exchange between Angelia and Morridow, 404 failed to trace back the call[150] and 45 advised against the exchange as Morridow had learned a lot about the team from being their prisoner, but the Commander decided to seize the opportunity to save Ange and possibly approach William.[153] When the deal turned sour and the Commander's forces were left empty-handed and under Paradeus attack, 45 ordered 9, 416 and G11 to cover the rest of the the team's retreat as the only Dolls with a Neural Cloud backup, but 45 still took point and led her squad against the enemy despite her own self-imposed mortality. They were saved by the Assimilated Sangvis Ferri units sent by Kryuger.[154]
Following a clue left by Angelia back to the Berlin prison, 45 inspected the CCTV system and identified an unmonitored room where the team found an access to an underground contraband warehouse.[20] Inside, the Assimilated forces fought Grig and Dandelion acquired new leads during her electronic warfare against Bramedb.[155]
Operation Aeneas[edit]
Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium[edit]
Datamines of the second beta for Girls' Frontline 2: Exilium contain a picture of 45 as an NPC with the file name “laiya” (transliterated by fans as “Riva”). She appears in fighting gear in the second trailer.
Side stories[edit]
Bounty Feast[edit]
After hearing about the enormous cash prize for playing The Division at the Griffin base, 45 dragged Squad 404 into the tournament,[156] using the very terse name “aaaa” as her player name.[16] Though she was serious about getting the money, 45 advised her team not to take the game too seriously since they wouldn't die when defeated,[40] and she also reveled in the occasion to play some tricks on the Griffin Dolls. After entering the game, 45 cheated to inspect the players data[156] and noticed a player connected from Dier's house.[15]
Soon after entering the game, Squad 404 was forced to start a fire after G11 was killed by the freezing cold. 45 stopped 9 when she started a conversation about Doll condition, saying she would end up as a lunatic like the Sangvis Dolls if she thought too much about it. As 45 was explaining her plan to whittle down the other players' strength by ruse instead of seeking fights, they were interrupted by a drunk RF SimonovSimonovSimonov who wandered nearby, and 45 killed her with a headshot by force of habit from when she trained at the Griffin target range.[16]
As 404 observed the encounter between SG M870M870M870 and RF SpringfieldSpringfieldSpringfield's team, 45 ordered 416 to throw a flashbang between them to provoke a fight, but Springfield's team retreated instead.[157] Since Springfield was too cautious to get into fights and 416 was annoyed by 45's treatment of her after Springfield took care of 404 many times while they stayed at the Griffin base, 45 elected to focus their attention on manipulating M870 and had 9 throw a rock at her to make her pick a fight with SMG VectorVectorVector and RF VSK-94VSK-94VSK-94 who were passing by. While M870 appeared to let them go at first, she suddenly proclaimed to be charging them for illegal possession of firearms and attacked VSK-94, sending 45 into a laughing fit. Unwilling to risk a fight with the elite Vector, 45 targeted the other two members of her team, HG K5K5K5 and RF R93R93R93,[40] but 416 lost patience with 45's slow-moving plan and she forced the team into a more aggressive strategy.[157] 45 left 9 with 416 to carry out her own plans. Keeping contact by radio, she mocked 416 after her plan to eliminate K5 and R93 with a seeker mine was foiled by the untimely appearance of computer enemies from the Last Man Battalion.[158]
Soon after, 9 was killed soon by a concealed suitcase bomb. 45 figured that the Griffin Dolls were too lucky to keep her plan going and called on 416 to enter the Dark Zone with her. On the way, they were attacked by Hellfire, and 45, wanting to try playing the role of a villain, dropped a stun grenade that immobilized 416 to leave her behind as bait.[159] With the Kandel Formulation pills already in her inventory, 45 entered the Dark Zone and took the flare gun from Dima to call the evac chopper and win the game by herself. Having noticed that Dima's reactions were too human for an NPC and that she seemed to fear her specifically, 45 deduced she was actually Dier's avatar. While she easily dispatched the last wave of computer enemies, 45 was killed by Vector who had overwhelming specs advantage, and she resigned herself to let 416 win the game for 404.[15] When Dier was exposed by 416 and he revealed that there never was a real cash prize, 45 angrily armed herself with a folding chair and started toward Dier's mansion, and 9 followed her with their guns.[160]
Notebook stories: Unstealable Jewels (Diamond Flower costume)[edit]
SMG UMP45UMP45UMP45 and SMG UMP9UMP9UMP9 are subcontracted by Griffin & Kryuger HQ to mock-steal the Star of Glory, a jewel owned by their client.
The Commander's Dolls initiate the robbery and the UMP sisters make a radio call to HG Grizzly MkVGrizzly MkVGrizzly MkV under the name of Griffin HQ, instructing her to give the jewel to 9. Grizzly doesn't fall for the trick but 9 incapacitates her with a taser and is about to leave with the jewel when she runs into RF DSR-50DSR-50DSR-50, who takes back the jewel since 9 is no match for her in combat.
DSR-50 passes the jewel on to SMG EVO 3EVO 3EVO 3, who in turn gets knocked down by 45 and loses the jewel. 45 then runs into DSR-50 too, but this time DSR-50 suspects that the sisters are part of the staged robbery and let 45 go. 45 straps the jewel to a carrying case attached to her leg to leave the party and meets the Commander again on the way out, rejecting their advice to take some time to rest instead of working constantly. 9 and 45 later deliver the jewel back to the client as planned.
